Thanks. My son is having the cold on driver's side/warm on passenger's side problem on his 2014 Grand Cherokee when AC is on. Figure it's probably the actuator gear. Of all the videos I've watched this is by far the best and complete start to finish video. Thanks again. I'll probably be making this repair in the future. Update My son and I did this repair today and it worked great. Cold air blowing on both sides now. This video was extremely helpful and made the repair easier. Excellent video, thanks again.
@@coreydbryant I haven't had the opportunity to get my hands on his car yet since he lives out of town. But I ordered the part and got it yesterday so it won't be much longer before I put it in. Not 100% sure that's the problem but as cheap as the repair is I figured I'd try this first.
I agree. You did a great job showing the steps on swapping it out. Mine just went on a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7lt. AC works great on the driver's side, but pushes out warm air on the passenger side. Got everything lined up to do the job this weekend. Great vid. And thank you for showing us. Well done.
no more hot air on my passenger side and back vent is also connected to the passenger front air vent thank you this video was worth watching it fixed my problem i have a 2014 jeep grand Cherokee. the part was only $10 as for the little ratchet he used i found it at auto zone by the register for like $17 came with like 7 little attachments but was better than paying for a shop to fix was like $150 plus parts thank you my 76 yr old mother drives my jeep from time to time and she will be so happy
Great video! Getting that thing back in was a nightmare. My car was in ready mode when I took mines out, so it turned out of position and would not line up properly. Advice anyone taking this part out disconnect the battery completely turn your car off. Otherwise, when it comes out, it will keep rotating clockwise to try to find the stop position and put you in a world of hurt to match the gears on the reinstall. Best bet put the broken one back in let the stopper range do it thing back turning the car back on to reset the actuator motors position using the broken gear. Turn the car off completely so the actuator motor doesn't turn when you take it out again and go from there.
thank you!!! our dealership here quoted $1300 to $1600! to replace that--no joke. What a rip off!!! i was able to buy both that gear part and the actuator, plus got some WD-40 and a new microfiber cloth for under 70 bucks!!! Thank you so much for your video instruction it was great!
I am not sure if your name is Martin, but you that are on the video: THANK YOU so much! You explained it so easy and even though I didn’t have the right tools I managed to replace the piece all by myself! It was so empowering and I needed that! I am so proud of myself! So thank you, excellent video!
2011 Jeep GC here. I have the same issues as you. Cold air driver side, warm air passenger. The other issue is my blow motor randomly cuts on and off. I replaced my blower motor, HVAC resistor, replaced fuses/relay, etc and still cuts on and off. Wire connections seems to be goof as well. This has to be the fix because I don't know whatelse I could do.
Excellent video. This is the same process for the Dodge Durango with the exception of the two upper screws for the glove box which are behind the wood trim. Thanks!
Thank u so much save me from taking it to a shop watch the video and took it apart and once apart got lost.. lol the gear was but even there it might it broke off so.. I did the hot and cold and the blender motor keep spinning since we are in summer I open to get teh max ac and have wife happy while new part come in new motor and new gear taht should make the trick and 50.dollars is way cheaper than dealer...thanks a million
Great video, clear and concise. Any thoughts on this? I have the new actuator motor ready to install. (I didn’t need the gear.) As soon as I turn on the ignition it starts to move, and continues after I shut it down. Anyone know why?
on my 2014 grand it is just the opposite, my drivers side gets hot air but my passenger side does not, which actuator gear should I first look at, drivers side or passenger side? This video was super super good. Thank you so much Jerry
Thank you so much for this video instruction. I have the same problem on my 2012 Grand Cherokee. Driver side blows cold. Passenger side stuck on HOT. Best regards.
Here’s a question for ya. The blend door this opens in the hvac system also works on a gear… the park the blend door gear moves. How’d you determine what orientation it goes on ? Or does it only go on one way ? Thanks
1. Must have tool: Harbor Freight, PITTSBURGH Ratcheting Right Angle Multi-Bit Screwdriver Set, 8 Piece $2.99 2. Disconnect the negative battery cable (under passenger seat for 20 mins.) to recalibrate the blend door actuator system.
Is there a specific orientation that the blend Door gear has to mesh with the gear on actuator gear? Or does the blend door actually compensate and know when it’s reach the max when it spins. If that makes sense. Thanks
So when the A/C didn’t work on the passenger side.....was there any clicking noise from the actuator? And if there is, does the actuator need to be replaced also?
I find it MUCH easier to remove the actuator (and the difficult to reach bolt) by simply removing the two pieces of flexible ducts. One section pulls through the footwell, the other pulls away from the central duct. Easy.
He did say at 5:28 that ''some of the other guys remove this, but i don't see a reason to'' - but i like easier! :) maybe you could make a video on how to do that! i am doing this for my older sister's 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD 6cyl today. Thank goodness it is on the passenger side!
First off… thank you, I really appreciate your walkthrough and it helped me get to the actuator…but I am still having an issue. My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee started blowing room temp air on the passenger side…driver side is fine TG, but I’m in Florida and it’s too hot to have AC issues! So I checked the blend door actuator and yes…the plastic gear broke off at the stop…and even though I didn’t need it I decided to replace both the actuator motor and the gear with new OEM parts just to be done with it for under $50. So I believe I installed the parts correctly, it can only go in one-way right? Before I installed it tho, I manually tested the door first and it moves freely…I also tested the motor and let it dangle while I powered on the car…I tried holdingon to it to see if some resistance would stop it like the gear stop is supposed to do right? Wrong…that motor did not feel like it was going to stop, or am I missing something here? Shouldn’t it stop with some resistance? Anyway…I really had no other alternative other than to just install and test it …and so I did just that and I’m pretty sure I installed it correctly…it can only go in one way right? I slipped on the gear to the inner gear 1st…with the large tooth to the large gap…then adjusted the actuator/stem to line up and screwed it down. I’m wondering if this is the point where I didn’t line it up correctly somehow. So after installing the actuator/gear and removing battery power for 30 min to recalibrate…I cranked it up and all I can hear from the actuator was a loud clicking noise like the plastic gear just sheared off the stop again! I don’t think I need to pull it off again to figure that out as its exactly the same…cold air on the driver and room temp on the passenger side. I’m puzzled as to why when I crank up the heat on the passenger side that works with no problem…it just doesn’t get cold when I crank it down! I don’t wanna give up yet my bruthas…any help would be appreciated….thx again
for maybe the 1st time in my life...I gave up! I'm just too big and old to climb around & under this BS! I had a friend/mechanic do it for me! I didnt ask details cause I was so pissed I didnt care and will never try it again lol! It was blowing ICE cold after he finished...gave him 2 bills/benjis for his time and was worth every penny! Sorry I know what youre going thru...find a backyard mechanic to do it
I have a question. In My 2015 jeep grand Cherokee I can’t switch the way the a/c is blowing. When I switch the air to my feet now air will come out. The only way I get air is through driver and passenger side front vent. How to fix that problem? Thanks
I can't seem to find an answer so maybe you know. Does the driver and passenger side use the same actuator or is there different parts numbers for each side?
