I have a 1998 ford ranger 2.5 2-wheel drive and had to put a new power steering pump in it and i am playing hell getting the pully on but by watching your video i see i did not put any anti cease on the pully and shaft of the pump going to take it back off and try that and see how it goes so thanks for the video.
just did a mazda b3000 (basically a ford ranger with a mazda logo) based on this video. coupla notes: - if like me you can't figure out how to get the fan out, you CAN get to the tensioner with a little finagling. - removing the battery completely from the engine compartment makes a surprising amount of extra room. - there's a pair of mud covers(? not sure on the proper term) near the battery, and sometimes the hoses coming off the pump get stuck under there, making it harder to reinstall them. I had one snaked through there, took me a good twenty minutes trying to get the threads started before I lost my patient and popped it back out of there. no problem after that. waiting on the gravity bleed now.
I dont know about newer trucks. But my 94 F150 has a distinct sound to. That used to be a Ford sound, not just rangers. I remember a long time ago, A friend of mine, his mom had an Aerostar van. Those really whined. Very distinct. Its a Ford pump thing.
You point to the line coming from bottom of resevoir but by slight of editing hand you pull the pressure line below to drain. I am having the hardest time pulling the p.line to drain! Two videos now it just popped right off? I thought perhaps loosen the nut but its impossible to get to🙄 Mine is 99 4.0 and looks like identical setup. Pulling hair out now!
You're going to have to cut a slice down the side of it if it's that hardened and then replace it, don't take any chances. You don't want to do the same job twice. You should look into replacing other hoses too
@@GibsonGarage thank you fir the replies. Unfortunately I jumped the gun last night. I only had enough $ for new pump, fluid and pulley tool rental. Say a prayer for me man? This morning my approach will be to get that pressure line off and flush new fluid I put in last night. Question: what would be an indication to look for if I collapsed new pump last night?🙏
@@GibsonGarage thanks so much for the reply I kept finding different answers and didn't want to buy a new one without knowing for sure. I got a new power steering pump ordered and hopefully gonna be able to throw it on mine. My new belt almost melted didn't notice it was the power steering pump until I saw a pile of melted rubber coming off the belt on to the pulley. Doesn't look like I ruined the new belt so crossing my fingers thats the case. I've been driving without power steering in this ranger for months now wish there was a was to just throw out the power steering all together.
