I just completed this on a 1999 Ford Ranger and the only suggestion I'd make is to remove the lower end (connected to the cooler) of the low pressure hose as it is more accessible than the end connected to the pump.

I have a 4.0 SOHC 02 Explorer. The power steering pump assembly is the exact same. I just changed it out. While I must say there's way more complicated jobs this wasn't a day at the beach. Taking the high pressure flare nut off was an adventure. Used penetrating oil, stubby wrench, flare wrench and took quite some time to get it loose. Finding 18 mm wrenches in general is tough to find let alone a stubby lol. Getting the high pressure line back in to the new pump was also a process. I had a mechanic friend come give it a try and it was still not budging. After some persistence finally got it going. With the exception of the. High pressure line the process was not bad at all. But be advised know what you're doing before you go and start this. It's very easy to round off a stuck flare nut.

This is the first DIY video from A-1 Auto that did not work for me. I also have a 2001 Ranger 4.0L. Where I have to digress is when the repairman uses the open ended wrench to take off the hose line. It was impossible on my truck. Instead I recommend unbolting the fluid reservoir, and then unclamp the hose which is much more accessible than the screwed in line. Then with the reservoir pulled forward, you can easily pull the hose from where it was clamped to the steering pump housing. Then right behind where the hose was, unbolt the the bracket securing the hose below the pump. Then remove the pump and place it on top of the pump housing to easily remove the fluid line. Everything else is the same.

would you guys be making a video how to replace a power steering pump on a 2005 Ford Taurus 3.0 liter engine U engine code? I tried seeing if there was anything similar to the Ford Taurus but I couldn't find it.

just did this on my 05 explorer. was not to bad of a job. no way i was getting a full size 18mm wrench in there. had to get a stubby. one thing that was left out was putting the new teflon ring on the pressure fitting.

that was my question(s) above, the white plastic o ring. where did that go? into the threads for the high pressure line into the pump?

What if the new pump has a nut where the pressure line connects what do I do the line won't enter the nut I done returned two new pumps for that reason do I take off the nut or do I replace the line with a different line?

Does the gasket on the Pwr Steering Flare nut have to be replaced when replacing the pump? Should the Pwr Steering reservoir be drained to complete the service?

I have the pump end of the hose going into the P.S.PUMP,THE NUT IS AS TIGHT AS IT CAN GO,HOWEVER I CAN MOVE THE HOSE IN PLACE. IS THIS GOING TO BE AN ISSUE FOR LEAKING?

Have an 04 ranger with a 4.0 and when the engine runs it makes the same chirp yours did while it idles. Any ideas? I know it’s somthing with the ps pump bearing
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 6 лет назад
+Acsoccer321 You may also want to inspect the engine idler pulley to see if it is making noise. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com

definitely the idler pully, change the whole unit not just the pully. change the other pully while you are at it too

I already replaced the Idler Pulley the Serpentine Belt and now I'm going to replace the Power Steering and Tensioner what else could cause the squueking if after replacing everything it doesn't stop
@thatoneshortboi
@thatoneshortboi 3 года назад
Could be slicked pulleys. They coulda have oils on them that cause the belt to squeal. It could even be condensation on the belt that builds up.

My 2003 ranger is hard to steer, and giving me shoulder problems, now hand problems(gripping). Two mechanics said they thought it’s normal for a truck. My girlfriend borrowed an older ranger and said it was ok for her, and she is not stronger than I. I drove my neighbors f150 and it was easy peasy steering! Ok, electronic. So, are rangers hard to steer normally? I don’t want to do tight turns or park it. We don’t see leaks anywhere, sea foam trans tune didn’t help, nor did new fluid. Would changing the pump be viable help?

Most likely my 07 ranger is easy to turn, right now i have a leak which is why im here but I've never had to put extra effort, i would also check your steering rack there could be a problem there
@joeysanchez5926

It could be as weak pump or your rack and pinion. Is it harder to turn to a certain side???

I dunno for sure but I don't think your dude got all the air outta the system... also your videos are very professional and informative but why leave off the most important part, the torque specs..?? Those are hard as hell for a person to find unless you have a membership to certain places... "I was following along great then I broke off the bolt". Or get he-man hollerin at your company talking like "you sold defective pulley, it bent over when tightening bolt.. lol.. just saying, theory is only that till the apple floats away....
