Just got my 97 2.3L running after sitting for 7 years. I'm pretty mechanically inclined. But this looks like a giant pain in the ass. It's leaking from somewhere though, so has to be done. Preciate the video.

Crank it up and get someone to turn the wheel while you look for leaks I’ve seen some that don’t leak until the wheel is turned. A lot of times it’s just the high pressure line. Maybe this helps. Thanks for the comment!👍

I have come across a good way to bleed the air out without all the bubbles and whining. Should work on many vehicles. Works well on my 1996 2.3 L 4-cylinder XLT... It is as follows. Fill the pump reservoir with fluid, jack front tires off ground (makes it easier to turn steering wheel). With engine off (off), Turn steering wheel fully or partially right then left to bleed system (I have found that the initial direction and how far you turn really doesn't matter a whole lot). Check and refill reservoir as needed. It only takes a couple of times and will over flow during the procedure if excess fluid is added due to system being closed loop. So check fluid level after Evey steering wheel cycle.. What this does is, with engine off (off) and PS pump not spinning, this allows the Power Steering Gear Box to manually move fluid through the system at a slower (low pressure) rate. This keeps the PS pump from creating high pressure which agitates the fluid and causes aeration of the system (bubbles). The Power Steering Gear Box is capable of moving fluid through the system as indicated by the drop in fluid level in reservoir. It does it a little slower and does not mix air into fluid thus reducing the time it takes to stop the whining.. To completely flush system use the same procedure just disconnect the return line, plug return reservoir fitting and drain return line into pan while adding fluid to reservoir.. Thank You...

Great video, helped me a bunch. Pulley wouldn't budge with the correct pulley removal tool. Had to break the pulley to access the removal bolts and buy a replacement pulley.

Hey buddy, I like your video. I have a question for you, my ranger 96, don't have a pressure switch is that normal or I need to have one? Thank you
@ChristmanGarage
@ChristmanGarage Год назад
I’ve never seen one without a switch but it doesn’t surprise me if the power steering works it shouldn’t matter👍

If the pump was just leaking do you know where from? These are known for the $30 hi pressure switch leaking. Replace it and keep it moving in every ranger and b3000 b4000 mazda

it was leaking around the housing and the plastic tank, probably could have replaced o-ring but from past experience it's better to just replace entire unit. Yes you are correct about the high pressure switch I have replaced many of them in the past as well. Thanks for the comment!

Great video... my ranger doesn't have a power steering system. Can I add one... if the answer is yes, what parts do I need? Thank you
@ChristmanGarage
@ChristmanGarage 5 месяцев назад
If it came factory with no power steering it would take a lot to put power steering on. You would need pump and bracket, lines, and gear box.

Why are there no videos or kits to delete power steering on these little Rangers??
@ChristmanGarage
@ChristmanGarage Год назад
You can just unhook everything if you would like we raced mustangs for years and always ran a power steering rack with no pump it never gave any problems you just need to plug up all the holes and leave a vent so it doesn’t vapor lock👍

I have a 95 that never had power steering, in parking lots it sucks to drive. On the road it's not too bad.
