Yes this is an old video. I have 2006 and 2007 Crown Vics. When removing the rear rotor, it is NOT necessary to mess with the parking brake adjustment. You're just making a lot more work for yourself. As long as the parking brake is OFF, the rotor will slip right off. The new one, or old one if you had it resurfaced, will slip right back on. If you messed with the parking brake adjustment before removing the rotor, then you will have to readjust it when you reinstall the rotor. There is very little working room under there if you are doing it in your driveway. If the parking brake worked to begin with, it will work ok after replacing the rotor with no adjustments. Drum service brakes do need to be adjusted. But this is just a parking brake.

Just a heads up: The caliper bolts in my 2001 Lincoln TC have 13mm heads, not 10mm. So grab both wrenches before you start.

I think something that should be covered in every video of brake pad replacement is the proper cleaning and relubrication of the caliper guide pins. Not cleaning and using the proper lubrications is one of the leading causes of premature braking issues by the DIY car owner.

Loved the video. I did find another method to remove the rotors though if you have issues... If you are struggling like I did, get two big screw drivers that will fit in the vents of the rotor, but snugly. Then wiggle the everliving heck out of it and it'll break it loose, after some hammering too...

That is a beautiful Crown Vic. Like new. The owner must put tarps down all the way to your shop. But see, mine is a daily driver, in upstate New York. It's got rust and crud all over the caliper and down inside every nook and cranny. We need you guys to demo on cars with dirt on them, Real World cars. Now don't get me wrong - your videos are priceless the way they are.

We replaced the pads because of uneven wear. This can happen from a sticking calipers or poorly lubricated slides.

If it has rear brake disks, the procedure may be different and you may need different tools.

Thanks... was having a terrible time getting the rotor off the Jeep... E brake loosening worked perfectly. I was having a heck of a time. A few hammer blows and it came right off.

If the ABS light came on after do a brake job, you might have to have the system reset. When pressing the caliper pistons in, the system can sometimes get jumbled up from the fluid being pushed past the distribution block.

Got a rejection sticker for my e brakes not working properly, going to attempt an adjustment and hope for no need of a replacement as it's a bit beyond my skill but this video will help a ton in finding the e brake adjustment. thank you.

Edit: it appears that he is adjusting the mechanism counterclockwise (towards the rotor) to loosen it and clockwise to tighten it... Just like usual... Lefty loosey Your explanation about how to tighten/loosen the e-brake shoes is a little confusing... Are you spinning the teeth left or right (with regards to camera POV, aka clockwise or counterclockwise) here? It seems like the teeth are moving to the right but you say to spin it toward the axle? But the teeth are parallel with the axle while the adjuster itself is perpendicular... I can see that this would be a little tricky to explain and was even a bit tricky trying to formulate a non confusing question... But really appreciate all the advice and effort you put into these videos... Really. So thanks.

No. I've pulled junkyard rear rotors and have never had to mess with the e-brake.

You will want the gas about halfway that way there is no chance of having an issue with gas coming out of the tank.

What if I don't have my emergency brake engaged. If I'm put my vehicle in park. Would I still need to loosen the e brakes before removing my rear rotor?

thanks for the answer mike hope I Can do the upgrade there's not much in the way of aftermarket stuff or mod things for P71'S or crown vics only mustangs but I Finally found out why ford didn't put the 5.4 L in.. instead of the silly under powered 4.6.L Because it wouldn't fit because of the windshield wiper motor lmao on that one I love fords after being a chevy guy for 30 yrs fords are built very well and simple to fix and Last

Do u have to down the Gas Tank to install one of the Charcoal Canister Vapor hose? I know the other one go to the Intake hose thru the frame...

You may want to check the brakes first to see if they locked up for some reason.

I Just Put Double Slotted n Vented Rotors and Ceramic Pads on all around and the front Rotors are much heavier why is that? can Suggest a Better Rear Dual Discs Setup? by brands ? plz thanks

Since the caliper is never removed from the brake like, you will not have to bleed the brakes.

Thank you for the video Brad. Unfortunately, my wife road the parking brake. What is the procedure on changing the parking brake pads? Is it a real pain in the neck?

By now, 8 years have passed and you no doubt know the answer. I'm not a mechanic but have done a few brake jobs in the past. Most parking brake pull a cable to activate, squeeze the rear brake pads or shoes, depending on the specific car model. Adjusting the adjusting Star, as in this Video, should tighten up the parking brake. If that parking brake cable has stretched over time past what the adjusting Star can adjust for, you may need to replace that cable to get that proper length to the back brake back to specs. Just my opinion, hope this helps someone. Disclaimer, consult a Certified Auto Mechanic for the best auto care advice!

I did rotors and pads on the rear of my 09 crown Vic and the only problem I'm having is a slight noise when I apply the brakes. When I brake hard and normal it's sounds fine but I apply a little bit and there's a noise. Need advice

You you must lubricate all of the screes and the rubber covers and the brake pad slides. The entire brake system from the calipers through rotor moves as a unit.

The emergency brake pads get very little use on only help to hold the car in place while it's parked. You may want to inspect them from time to time, for wear but you shouldn't need to replace them with every brake pad change. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

How come the bleeder was never cracked to open up the caliper pucks? Didn't see and of the brakes bled.
