You can get Dorman backing plates that are cut in halves so you can replace them without disassembly of the axles, still is a pita job to do but better than doing the diff - they work fine
It's called the backing plate. The one from GM comes with the cast part the caliper mounts to. Dorman plates are just the shields at 1/8 of price. Nuts are 15/16". Might be useful to have a 15/16" crows foot to torque properly. No room for a torque wrench on 2 of them
