You can wind the caliper back in with a pair of small mole grips on one of the notches, taking care not to pinch the rubber sleeve
@darbo23

A couple of things… use copper grease in the back of the brake pads to stop vibration / squeal, an impact wrench works great on the Torx T50 screw and use a new screw every time, use copper grease on the T50 threads and do not torque it up tight, it’s only there to hold the disc on when the wheel is removed.
@seanbrennan3472
@seanbrennan3472 2 года назад
Copper grease isn’t needed on those pads if you look there is a slightly raised pad that does the same job, if that wasn’t there then yes apply the grease

Just a suggestion in the comments, if you have a centering screw for the rotors, you may want to put a little anti-seize on the screw so if you need to do the job again the anti-seize makes the screw easier to remove.

New to me 2013 Mini Cooper S. Red brake light on, I think it's the hand brake sensor, now thinking its the wires. Are there 2 versions of the pads, one without sensors?
@danielwithlions1025
@danielwithlions1025 10 месяцев назад
Okay so I used to have a tool to screw in these pads but I threw it away years ago cuz I didn't need it anymore after saving it for years Well you don't need a special tool to screw in both of the rear brake caliper pistons all you need is some adjustable wrenches maybe a large vise grip or channel locks and it's clockwise rotation to screw them in both sides left and right are clockwise and just grab the edge of the metal Don't get the rubber grab the edge of the metal and turn it a quarter turn each time and then go back up and redo it again until it goes all the way down mostly seated flat then you'll need some needle nose pliers to stick in those two grooves on the piston and just use the needle nose just as you were already screwing in the piston Stick them in the slots and continue turning until it bottoms out you don't need a special tool and you don't need to remove the emergency brake cable somebody mentioned that above in the comments you don't need to disconnect the cable

Nice video but I do not recommend buying any parts from the online retailer A1 Auto. I bought brake pads that don't fit and they refuse to exchange them for the correct part. The website is misleading as they put 2 different car model parts right next to each other. The front and rear pads I received are for different vehicle models. When you choose your parts online for the front pads, it is right next to the wrong set of rear pads even though I put in the correct vehicle information. I also received the items with damaged packaging and it did not seem to concern 1A Auto when I brought t to their attention. It was past their official return time, but the holidays should have have some extension like most reputable retailers. So now I have pads I cannot use or return. Great customer service 1A! Do yourself a favor, use your local auto part store where they would be willing to help you out and provide GOOD customer service and they are cheaper too. I am extremely unsatisfied with 1A Auto and will never use them again.

how does screwing the piston back in affect the pressure on the opposite wheel?mine extended so far it does not want to screw in? or is the drivers side reverse threaded?
@mikeh.8155
@mikeh.8155 Год назад
doesn't affect the opposite wheel but unscrew the cap of the brake fluid reservoir as the fluid might overflow while pushing the piston(s) back

I would just tuck that sensor up with the connector, zip tie it together and forget about it. If you are replacing the rotors every time you change the pads who needs a warning.

At the end there are two studs the mechanic puts into where the wheel studs go - those do not appear in the lost of tools and parts in the details of this video. Could 1A- Auto add that? Id like to buy those for my Mini Copper R53. It will save a few swear words when putting the wheels back on.

Great video. Clear picture and well lit so you can see everything. I wish I had found this before I started. I'd be done by now. The piston tool is the simplest version. I found one at a local auto parts store. A more complicated tool is available that presses the piston as it turns it. A lot more money and probably harder to find. Are there times when the parking brake mechanism won't let the piston retract?
