The best video I have seen on the subject. The most important part is starting at the bottom pully, always. Having a serpentine long handled tool helps greatly. It keeps your tensioning hand out of the way.

Inspect the serpentine belt for cracks on the ribbed side, and replace it if it has cracks. If that isn't the issue you may need a new belt tensioner if it has lost some of it's tension. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Great video. It was a little trickery for me at the power steering pump cause the engine is swapped with a v8 where there was a v6 I had no room at all by the fan shroud.There is no way I would have got it done without this video. Thanks a ton!

Thanks, I just changed mine out on my 1999 Durango last night. Very easy fix, just need help moving the tensioner (I just wasn't strong enough). You saved me a lot of money, that I didn't have. I am a 32 year old woman, and if I can do any one can. Thanks again

Also check the wire harness that goes between the door and the body of the truck to see if there's a broke or frayed wire. If there is, that could be causing the issue.

You should be able to move it as shown in the video. They typically don't freeze up. Usually over time they start to loose tention.

I have a 98 durango and my problem is that there is a sqeaking coming from the engine and when I press on the gas it sqeaks faster but sometimes it won't sqeak at all but most of the time it does

It should be the same process. There should also be a belt routing diagram in the engine compartment that shows you how the belt is suppose to be routed.

HI Jennifer Lee, You may want to check in the engine compartment or under the dash for a loose or broken vacuum line that needs to be attached or replaced. What size motor is on the Durango?

@spelunkerd Seen them go bad at 30K, seen them last to 100K. The start squeaking or groaning. After removing the belt it is one more bolt, so yes it is easy. I should have a video going up in the next few days. Might want to replace the idler pulley while your at it, common problem and easy and inexpensive.

Just got done doing my 01 durango... It broke on 95 near the airport in philly...I drove it about 2 miles...It was HOT and and red lights were flashing...My tensioner pulley wheel melted from the bearing...smh...Hardest part was getting the wheel off and putting on the new belt...My diagram is totally different than the vehicle in this video...I was lucky to be from that area (swp) so I had a buddy bring me some tools...If you have a durango. Keep a 15mm shallow socket and ratchet in your truck...:)...

aw I thought this was to remove the tensioner... Oh well back to the drawing board. I actually never needed a diagram. I tend to just feel it out and it works 100 percent of the time. Also what is up with the "Comments may be held for uploader approval"? I've never seen that in a how to video :|...

could you do a video on replacing the water pump and thermostat on a 2000 dodge durango. I have a 4.7 liter v8. I have watched videos where they remove the radiator reservoir and then the fan.

I have a 2001 5.9 SLT and I need to replace all 4 shocks. While I love the video you posted for the rear shocks, do you have one for the front set? I know the front end has a bit of a different set up with it being a stem on the top end not a bushing. Please help!

Well my rear latch on my 2012 Dodge Durango tries to close 3 times and gives up. On the way home it poped up 2 times. This made for some interesting driving as the cars behind me didn't know how to handle the situation. Luckily I pulled over with the flashers on, pushed the open/close button on the overhead console and have it cycle another 3 times. When the latch broke or whatever it did the check engine light came on. Things like that seem to come in two's or three's. Yea, the low left rear tire light also started flashing telling me that it decided to show low :-(. The reason the check engine light came on was the computer(s) in all it's wisdom said the thermostat was not opening up like it should have. Lucky I had Mo-Par Max Care warranty. The dealer put in a new hatchback latch (450.00), new thermostat Cost ??. I don't know how much the labor for all this would have been without the Mo-Par warranty. I paid them $ 100.00 and was back on the road in a day or so. The warranty does cover parts, labor and rental car. These vehicles these days are nothing but computers on wheels. The Mo-Par Max Care warranty comes in 3 flavors: 1. No Deductible (higher initial cost) 2. $ 100.00 deductible (what I have) 3. $ 200.00 deductable If you are going to keep your vehicle over 5 years it's worth the cost.

I have a 2000 dodge dakota with a v6 magnum engine I bought a belt yesterday and today and I think they are too big I think one person I asked said it was 97 inches but I have no tension on the belt what size belt is it suppose too be? I have replaced one pulleys the one between the alternator and the one any ideas

I have a 98 Durango V8. When I turn the bolt on the tensioner all that happens is that the bolt is loosened and there is no slack given to the belt. Any ideas on where to go from there?

I have a 98 dodge durango and at the beginning of the summer my a/c stopped blowing thru the vents,only thru the defroster, but the back vents are fine. Now my heater isn't working and my temperature gauge stays all the way down. Please can someone help point it out

Well at least you showed how to take the tension off the pulley but used the wrong tool. Yes the ratchet did work but using a knuckle buster type is all wrong.
