Just a heads up for the novices like myself out there. This video shows a 4WD, if your truck is rear wheel, there will be no axle to take off. You will use a 7mm allen wrench instead of the T47 to get the brakes off, and a 36mm socket instead of the 32mm to get your hub nut off. After you take the brake caliper and the rotor off, all you have to do is take off the hub nut, and the bearing slides right off. I was able to get one side done in about 30-45 minutes.

Thank you so much. I ordered both front hubs for a 2002 Dakota and they fit perfectly! I did not remove the half shaft, I used a deep 14 mm socket and was able to break loose the 3 hub bolts. It went together great, thanks to your video!

I ordered the hub assembly for my Dakota, it came with the abs sensor and was very inexpensive. Just installed it using this video, a little different but this video prepared me for what i was in for. I kept the video up on my phone while doing the install. Took me about 1.5 hours to complete and now my truck is riding good. no more squeaky squealing and the ABS/BRAKE lights are no longer lit up on the dash so I'm happy happy happy. Thanks SO Much for helping us DIY'ers!
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 12 лет назад
That should be fine as long as there isn't a whole lot of force used on the pry bar. You may also want to check your ball joints to see if they are okay. Hope this helps you out.
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 11 лет назад
Sometimes well use the same part of one video to show you how to tackle another project. If your brake pads are fine, you can leave them in place while you tackle the hub. If they're worn, now would be a good time to replace them while the pads are off.

For anyone that is disassembling a Dakota or Durango but plan to reuse the hub/bearing unit and easy way to remove it is to loosen the hubs bolts about 3/4 of the way out and then use a hammer to smack the bolt heads. It will force the hub out of it's bore without distorting it. Then you can remove the bolts completely and pull it out.

Thanks for shearing this video. That's what my wife's Dodge Durango needs. We been paying to a mechanic to replace the wheel bearing twice for the las 7 Months, the lousy noise is gone for a while and then gets back. this time I will get them from the dealer and do it my self. Thanks You again.

@TheJeremyCupp On this vehicle the hub and the bearing assembly are one unit. They are not servicable, so you wouldn't need a press, they bolt onto the steering knuckle. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day!

Well got it done. I did not remove the DS however as I had good clearance to access the hub bolts. took about an hour. thanks for the video :)
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 12 лет назад
@TheHillbillyRidge If the front makes kind of a roaring noise above 30 MPH It might be the hub. The tolerances on some of these new hubs are so tight, that you can't always see if there's play by moving the tire back and forth. This same thing happened on my 04 Grand Cherokee. Once I actually took the hub off I was able to move it with my hand. Hope this helps you out. We sell hubs on our website 1aauto,com If that ends up being the issue.

@TheHillbillyRidge If you remove the rear wheel off of the vehicle, you should be able to see if it has rear disks or drum brakes. Usually you can even see them through the spokes or holes in the wheel.

@6983jt The drivers side should be fairly similar to the passenger side. You may have to remove the axle to be able to access the bolts.
@1AAuto

@TheHillbillyRidge It may be the hub, or you may also want to take a look at the suspension pieces to see if anything is broke or worn out.

@ijustgottasaythis It should be the same size as the one shown in our video. Sometimes manufacturers do change the size of the bolt used between model years. We try to provide as much accurate (tool size) information as possible. Thank you for checking out our auto repair videos. Have a great day!

The bearing on those are pressed into the rotor itself so normally to save yourself the trouble, you replace the entire rotor, bearing and brake pads at the same time.

@cburn665 Thank you for visiting our auto repair channel on RU-vid. We currently do not have a video for that particular repair. However on most vehicles you need to remove the brake calipers, and the center nut off of the axle. You might need to remove the axel, depending on how easily you can get at the bolts on the backside of the hub. We carry replacement hubs for your Dodge Shadow 93. Here's a link to them on our site. 1aauto.com/1A/wheel-bearing-hub-front/Dodge/Shadow/-/-/1993

If there's play in the wheel then they are bad. I usually recommend replacing them in pairs, because if one is bad, the other one usually goes bad not long after the first one.

@FuttBuckerByMutt

It's sooo much easier to reach the hub bolts. In my case I also had to heat the bolts up in order to break them loose and I didn't want to melt any of the rubber that was around the boot of the axle

Great video! I have a '98 Dakota up in the air right now and the 32mm socket does not seem to fit. Too small...nut is in good shape, not rounded, so the 32mm socket 9 for my 1998 Dodge Dakota SLT) should fit ...but it doesn't... Is this normal? I'll logic it up to 34mm and let you know if that works, because if its a 34mm socket, 1AAutoparts might want to review the "Tools needed" page. Or I got a real strange front end. Thanks, You guys are very good and I appreciate the video! keep it up.

Sorry I botched up my question up a little bit I apologize. I know 2WD vehicles do not have transfer-cases I don't think I said that. I always understood a differential was to accommodate the travel distance when turning a vehicle like how a outside tire travels more than the inside tire. So I guess differentials are only used in the rear where the output of the engine connected threw a drive-shaft is located and vehicles that are front wheel drive have built in differentials in transmission?
