BACK YARD CHEVY: Dude this video was perfect. No, super long. Annoying intro, or any dumb music lol. Some videos people post are really annoying and you have to skip through a bunch of garbage or mute, half the video because of some horrible music, but not you! You asked about whether or not you should show the rest of the spark plugs once getting the 1st one out and in my personal opinion, it would be cool to see you get the rest of them out, but in 4x-10x or something like that. Keep it up buddy thank you for this video.!
These AC Iridium plugs and coils work great together. On my 2005 I-5, I replaced plugs at 125,000 - 200,000 - and 300,000 miles, and they were still running great. A quality truck. Mobil 1 5w30 Dexos Syn, AC PF61 Filter every 7,000 miles, Peak Dexcool AF changed every couple of years, Trans fluid every 5 years, and I keep rolling on. No regrets.
Great, very informative video. I wouldn't edit anything out. Showing as much detail is always appreciated. This is a great step by step with exact instructions. My neighbor just took ownership of a 2004 Chevy Colorado and I had no idea where the plugs were located on this engine. This video will help out immensely by helping him keep up with the maintenance of the truck.
Got code 0304 misfire on my 05 Chevy Colorado 3.5L - have 200K miles. Decided to replace all 5 plugs and coils - this is best video I've seen. I don't mind your repetitive coil replacements on video. The repetitiveness is needed for memory. Also like you instruction on removing and replacing parts. That clip on removing wires on coils is helpful. Using NGK coils and NGK iridium IX plugs. Appears plugs already pre-gapped and I may not need anti seize - will research some more to make sure. Will use 13ft torque per recommended spec below. Again, thanks for video.
In my opinion, I like the way you explain more then once because I'm a slow learner before I get things. In my head. I appreciate you helping others. Thank you and Bless.
Awesome video on how to replace spark plugs on the 3.7 Colorado/Canyon motor. This is the gold standard on how this is done. Thanks so much for showing what needs to be done with that wire harness to get at the first coil bolt as all the other guys just skip over that or give some sketchy comment on what to do. IMO after showing how to on plug #1 you could have skipped to #5 but not cutting corners is good to . You can work on my truck anytime. lol!
I never comment on videos, but ive done my plugs before and did it by watching a RU-vid video. I watched the whole video just to see if any of your coil packs separated like mine did. I think this is a great how to video.
You’re a legend bud, was having issues with my canyon and couldn’t figure it out and it turns out it was the spark plugs! This helped a ton! Definitely subscribed and liked
This is a fantastic tutorial. I haven't worked on automobiles in many years, so I appreciate seeing the process of replacing each and every plug. I'm subscribing.
Excellent video. Short and to the point. Nice. I have moved to a magnetic spark plug socket, the rubber boot inside the older sockets has been known to come off and stay stuck to the plug.
Thanks for putting this video together, it made the job go so much easier! My '04 Canyon has 120,000 miles on it and although it ran fine, passed smog etc. those new spark plugs really made a difference, my truck has a lot more pep now! Thanks again and keep up the good work! And... if you ever get the chance to make a video on how to get the center armrest on a 58 Impala rear seat unstuck, I'll certainly tune in for that as well! 👍
Excellent tutorial. The only add on would be torque specs for everything you reconnected. Also, safety warning associated with miss threading spark plugs,.
Your videos are superior in content and understanding. It's greatly appreciated. Any reason to ever change the ignition coils? Would a bad one cause random misfires?
I’m just one of those people,if I see it done. I can’ do it. Thank you so much Dude!!!( Showing me the right way. I’m old as f#%k and still was able to follow directions and achieve success. Cheap! I’m talking a nap!✌️
Hey backyard Chevy: I enjoy your videos is right to the point and easy to follow. I think you could have skip some of it because it's the same as the first spark plug and like the other subscriber said, not to lose the screws or the locking clip. Questions I have the same truck an 06 needs same minor work like front and back shocks, I also the ABS indicator light is on, it use to go off but now it stays on. I also believe that she needs brakes pads all round and a new thermostat. Because during the winter the hot air isn't enough I have to keep it on number 2 or 3, if you happen to do any of those jobs on that truck I'll be glad to seat back and watch It will help me out keep them coming!
Thank you🙂 i do have the front and rear brake job videos...the abs light have u had it scanned to see the codes for the abs? Its most commonly a bad wheel speed sensor which is part of the wheel hub and that would be included in my front brake video i did🙂..but sure if i do any others ill be sure to make videos on em
@@backyardchevy328 Thanks for the info still working on getting a scanner, I had to rewrite the comment cuz I left some things out but thanks for the info I will be looking out for those videos.
The summarized repay works great for me. It shows me there are not tricks along the way. However, on your brake drum shoes video, I was lead astray by your 15 minute video that made it seem like it was going to be fairly easy to get the big retaining pin back into the shoes. It took me two separate days! Lol. You make great how to videos!
Lol sorry about that brake video..i know its probably cause ive done quite a bit of em so it wasnt so hard to do but if i recall my first time doing those type i can feel ur pain...thank you i really appreciate it🙂
Thanks bro. Got a video on why my driver side taillight keeps blowing? Break light is good, so is turn signal but the taillight keeps blowing. I’m not sure how long after replacing the bulb it’s blowing but I’ll find out later after I replace the spark plugs and my #3 cylinder coil.
Normally thats due to a bad connection..maybe u can check the ground to see if its loose or damaged..if thats ok..id check the inside of the connector..if its providing a bad contact(dirty, rust) itll cause it to blow out a lot faster..or also if u notice any moisture in housing
@@backyardchevy328 thanks! I’ll ask my neighbor, he knows what he’s doing and most likely knows what to look for…. I don’t know anything about any kind of electrical stuff. I’ll pass along what you suggested though, thanks again!
I would just skip, unless there's any annoyances like on the 1st one. Maybe mention not to drop the coil bolt when you're taking it out. That was a huge bitch to recover. Your videos are great though, always great camera angle and lighting. Plus I have the same truck :)
Thank you i really appreciate it...yea i think thatd probably be the best way to do it too....the coil bolt in the spark plug hole? A telescoping magnet wouldnt work?
Not the ignition coil bolts, just snug em up..youll wanna be careful cause those bolts can break if overtightened....and the spark plugs they tighten to 13 ft lbs.
Well original iridiums are meant to last 100k miles but i never wait that long..do u know whens the last time they were replaced? And with which plugs?
Good step by step, but don't put anti seize on plugs, you'll snap them much easier, the torque load is only 13ft lbs, with anti seize your 13ft lbs on your torque wrench is likely closer to 18-20 ft lbs due to lubricity.
Hello thank you for your video.🙏 I have a real quick question not about the plugs but about the oil. my sons 2004 Canyon oil light comes on and then it says oil on the screen where the mileage normally is so I thought it needs oil and I went to check it but the dipstick reads that it has a little bit over the full mark. Could this be the problem because there be too much oil? or is the dipstick not accurately reading the amount? I wanted to put some Lucas oil stabilizer but I don’t want it to be filled even more if it’s already a little over full. Thank you very much
Hello🙂 if that red oil light is on it means theres a problem with oil pressure..so it could be the oil pressure sensor may be malfunctioning, being that the oil is up to level ..but u dont wanna leave it overfilled either that could cause cause problems as well.
Great video, I am just curious, why did you disconnect the coil from the wiring harness if you were not changing the coil? Am I not saying you should not have, I am just wondering why for my own knowledge?
Thank you🙂 well if u leave coil connected, not sure theres enough space for it to come out freely without bending it, guess i could of tried it..but i just disconnect em so they come out freely without bending and possibly breaking the coil.
@@backyardchevy328 thank you for your answer, I am having some issues after changing my spark plugs and I did not disconnect the coils, I thought that may be a reason. I don't think I bent the coils, must be something else
'BACKYARD CHEVY' Can you recommend your preferred choice for an affordable QUALITY Ignition Coil Set (4cyl) for my 2005 GMC Canyon ? (Amazon OK) Thanks......
@@backyardchevy328--- Please- Which brand have you had good experience with at any price ?.....Ones that last the longest. The coils that are on my truck are like most everything that came originally on my 2005 Canyon, even the cat converter& mufflers. I think the OEM genine GM product would be best, but are pricey. (over $100 each)
I remove the upper cover of the wire guide so i can press down on the clip and clip it onto the valve cover...if not there's nothing behind it so the clip just falls into the guide
I replaced plugs with delco 41-103 and the truck barely ran. throwing codes random cylinder misfire not sure why the heck this happened. makes no sense. I put the old plugs back in and it doesn't run right I've now ordered coil packs for the vehicle and Im going to replace all of these as well
yea it shouldnt be the plugs especially if u put old ones and its doing the same...any chance that the hose under the intake resonator tube is damaged or disconnected..or the small one in the front..any of those could cause a vacuum leak and cause misfires cause its after the maf sensor...checking to make sure all the connections are on properly too like those intake tubes...i would check all that.
@@matthewhansen1427 if it is cracked or if it leaks out of it, you'll probably hear a whistling or sucking sound itll be due to a vacuum leak somewhere possibly that hose..that would affect every cylinder
I see most everyone liked the long version of the video. For someone like me with a little more experience there is no reason to watch more than one. I also wanted to point out that it is no longer best practice to use anti-sieze on the spark plug threads. Spark plug manufacturers do not recommend it. Your audio comments explained your actions clearly, but a little boring however.
Thank you🙂 yea most new spark plugs have this special break away coating on em so u dont have to, but on really dry threads i still prefer to use a small amount...any advice to make it less boring?
@@backyardchevy328 Thanks for not being offended by my comments. Your explanations were very clear but it was kind of a dead pan delivery. You could try a more conversational style, like you were explaining it to a friend. By the way, I am a professional mechanic but haven't worked on that 5 cylinder engine before ( I am in Hawaii, all Tacomas here), and your video helped me, so thanks.
@@danielbal5272 thank you, yea i will try that..i know ive slowly tried to integrate my personality into the videos but i still find it hard to get comfortable doing that
