Hi , thank you for your comment. Hopefully one of these methods can help people out. I've posted many other soldering videos on RU-vid showing all different aspects of soldering work , I hope also these are of use if people have soldering problems . Thanks again , and good luck with any soldering projects you work on 👍

Good advice! 3:25 - Instead of using 2 soldering irons, I recommend using a 'low-melt' solder - which melts as low as 58°C. This gives enough time to heat both sides with the same iron and remove the chip. Also works great with larger chips. Be sure to 'wet' all pins before removal so the original solder is diluted :ø) Look for alloys with following composition - Sn12/Bi49/In21/Pb18 and names like 'FAST CHIP' or 'low melt/low temperature solder' Be sure to clean up good before re-soldering, as the low melt/low temperature solder makes brittle and possibly long-term unstable connections.

I use low-melt in a slightly different way, putting the board on a pre-heater at 150 degrees C and applying low-melt solder stick to each joint; after wetting with low-melt the chip can be removed at this very low temperature, and the excess of solder can be moved, while still melted, to the center ans sucked off. Still pads need to be cleaned. I put regular solder on the pads, let them cool and remove the solder with a wick. ad

Thanks once again for sharing your knowledge. I've got hot air but for me the best method for removal is the 2 irons which I learned from your other video. Works a treat and makes removal really easy and safe.

Hi i use the second methode when you can not use hotair but i bridge all 4 legs together with wire. Then you can use only one solder iron, that works flawless with no damage. Regards Steve from belgium.

Hi . Yes I've used the wire method to take out long single row connectors and I agree it is a good method but I love using 2 irons for rework , so much so that I've shown so many people this method and they to now use it for their reworks . I've also posted a complete RU-vid video on the uses of 2 soldering irons . Thank you for watching , all the best 👍

Great video as usual. How do you actually check and know if the ic is faulty? Also if you remove the ic will the heat destroy it from the iron?
@mrsolderfix3996
@mrsolderfix3996 2 года назад
Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated . Sometimes you can physically see an IC is damaged ( holes blown in the body is a typical example ) but often I work with engineers who will ask me to change certain parts as they have tested the circuits down to a certain faulty IC. If you know how to fault find down to component level this is standard practice . Using the 2 iron method will not damage the components , it's no more risky than using a hot air gun , and is certainly better for the surrounding components as no heat is applied to them like it is with the hot air method . Hope that helps , thanks again 👍

Hi , thank you for your support , much appreciated I don't generally supply links to products for certain reasons but I generally get all my solders and solder paste from BLT Circuits ( based in England ) , cleaning wipes , Gtek Dry Wipes from Grove Sales ( England ) , fluxes and other general stuff , components etc from Farnell , RS Components or Rapid Online or if in America I would use Mouser or Digikey as my choice of supplier for all kinds of tools , consumables , components etc . Hope that's ok , thanks again for your kind words , good luck 👍

Is it necessary to remove the old solder Sir?
@mrsolderfix3996
@mrsolderfix3996 2 года назад
Hi , I tend to remove it and start from scratch but if your using a hot air gun you can leave the old solder on the board . If using a soldering iron I would wick off the old solder otherwise your IC will not lay particularly flat . Hope that helps 👍

How can I wet a pencil tip with tin solder all the way to the front?
@mrsolderfix3996
@mrsolderfix3996 2 года назад
Hi . I would try gently scraping down to the tip end with a scalpel ( but very gently ) and then continuously flood the tip of the iron with leaded solder . As long as the end is in good condition with no holes in etc eventually it should tin very nicely right down to the tip of the iron. This method works for me ( I know your problem , it's quite common ), so hopefully it can help you out . Good luck 👍
