Having now just done this job today, I have a few things to add. I highly recommend removing the coolant reservoir and the fan shroud. Its only four bolts, and the increased room makes it WAY easier to access the fan clutch, as well as the bolts holding the water pump in. On my truck every single one had to be broken loose with a breaker bar. While you're in there, it's an excellent opportunity to replace the thermostat and temperature sensor, as well as the upper and lower radiator hoses if they look worse for wear as mine did. I also chose to flush and replace all my coolant with proper diesel extended life coolant since it would be drained anyway and I don't believe it had ever been changed.

People can learn how to make videos from watching this one. No nonsense and straight to the point. I really love the videos that get to the point. Great video work and just as good as your water pump job. I would even have minded 10 seconds to show your dog. Haha

Wow! You made that look easy!!! After 100K I stop only buying OEM parts... Great stuff!!!

That is pretty much how I am with parts, once past 100k I'm a little bit cheaper. I actually filtered and reused the radiator fluid but was too chicken to show it in the video. LOL This poor truck isn't a daily driver and only gets used when I really need it. This job ended up being easier than I expected as well.

@ScoutCrafter Made it look easy by skipping the "hardest" parts which are breaking the fan and pulley bolts loose. It was a PITA doing this myself 🙃. Nonetheless informative though.

My favorite brand is "The Cheapest One." Every auto parts store carries that brand.

Thank You, clear everyday vernacular in an easy to follow step by step methodology. Dang fan clutch kicked my butt for awhile (I was bound and determined to use tools I got for hummer {even if neither would fit the nut},) until I ran to the store and got correct wrench for the nut. Should have coughed up the few dollars more for a multi vehicle kit. Granddad always said "Son, it only takes a bit more to go first class, if you have to go."

Good video, only thing I can add is take the 2 minutes to remove the shroud. Makes life so much easier for cleaning and a assembled pump install. My example had a lot of corrosion in the housing under the pump so I had to apply a light layer of grey rtv to fill the cavities. Spend time to save time sometimes-

Really well done ....thankyou so much. I probably will remove the shroud and fan, simply because I'd prefer the idea of having a little more working room...but, that's no bigger......thanks again!

Perfect time to put an upper hose on that wraps outside of the serpentine belt so that if/when it breaks you can replace it on the side of the road. I have had to do this.

Shazam! My 1996 Sable water pump lost its impeller on Friday ... My favorite repair guy just 1/4 mile down the road got me back on the road today (Sunday). No, I couldn't do it myself ... I worked as a mechanic when there was *actually* some engine compartment room to get to things long long ago. :^) *BTW this vid is a great how-to!*
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 3 года назад
If I'm not mistaken, I think the Sables were pretty reliable cars! I always liked the wagon versions but I'm also very fond of wagons, they just always seemed very practical to me. I don't mind working on the truck, mainly because it isn't a daily driver and there is no "stress" of getting it done right away. It always helps you have time to stop and smell the roses. :D
@SteveAB4EL
@SteveAB4EL 3 года назад
@@1D10CRACY I bought the Sable at 100k and now it has as much road-age as your Ford truck. :^) But I'll quibble (for fun): maybe "they" knew the improved Sable water pump design wouldn't ever "leak" ... so they substituted a heat-fatigue plastic impeller instead of that nice durable metal one in your new water pump.

Did you use a genuine Ford thermostat? Using only one o-ring that is slotted and covers the edge around it ? It seals on bottom and top ?

It looks to be powder coated and looking at the video it looks like they got the ends coated a bit on the inside. I suppose if this was something that concerned you, it wouldn't be a big deal to use a Scotch Brite flap wheel on a drill and remove the over spray on the ends.

What is "ATV sealant"?
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 5 месяцев назад
Some silicone sealant use to be called RTV, that stood for "Room Temperature Vulcanizing". Because today the temperature isn't as important, the cool crowd nicknamed it ATV, for "Any Temperature Vulcanizing". :D
