This was super-helpful - thanks! I'm sad to say that I've owned my Dyson for over a decade and am only now learning about the HEPA filter. Which is a shame since now you can't get Dyson parts for this model. Luckily, with a compatible brand and your video, I was able to change the HEPA filter pretty effortlessly.
Thank you for showing us clearly, and especially without a 20 minute ramble. I purchased replacement filters, and didn't even know there was a HEPA post filter. It'll get its first-ever change today, along with the washable one that I knew about.
EXCELLENT video; actually the ONLY video to show what it takes to CLEAN the interior. The other videos merely show what I believe most people do, maybe thinking that is all you can do. I spent time waiting for all the parts to dry yesterday , because I remember how my DYSON "sucked" when new...The thing really IS like new again!!! I went even further, and used NOVUS plastic polish(one of the BEST products I've ever stumbled on...BUY IT), and did all the plastic. The canister is now clear again on top of everything else. Christ, I took pics, and sent them to my girlfriend!!? Thank you very much!
Definitely appreciate the video on how to change the hepa filter. Okay, so why isn't this common knowledge like the pre filter? I've had my Dyson now for 4 years and never figured out how to change the hepa filter or knew it existed!! I've had my machine aparet in every other way, fixing switches and cleaning hoses, etc. Thanks A TON!!!
Thank you for this video. I used a torx screw to disassemble my DC17 and the only screw that required a Philips head was where the hepa filter is - I did not know that filter was even there so thank you!! I suspect Dyson didn’t want us to know it was there. Maybe that’s why it’s the only Philips head on my entire machine.
Sir you just saved me about $600 because I was about to buy another Dyson. Had no clue there was a second filter. Works like brand new now. I salute you Sir!
Thanks for the video; mine however isn’t a Philips screw on the motor filter housing, it looks more like a T27 or T30 and needs a hand tool due to narrow long access hole.
Thanks for this tutorial! I just bought a used dyson and am doing my own maintenance. What size phillips do you use? I don't seem to have one in my set that is small enough or long enough for that itsy-bitsy, hard to see screw.
I've always thought this vacuum was a POS. Why this filter isn't mentioned ANYWHERE in the user manual is completely beyond me. It clogs just as readily as the other one that is easily accessed under the canister. After all the hype about how this is the greatest vacuum ever it has given me problems from day one. The parts don't mesh together well, the filters clog, the canister is really small when you consider that only the outer part holds dirt. It is forever clogged with something. I bought a Ridgid shop vac at Home Depot that we ended up using around the house too. We call it The Beast and it picks up everything. You do have to be careful though as it really picks up EVERYTHING, including the carpet. Yes it is noisy but what vacuum isn't. I just used The Beast now to clean the filters in the Dyson, and I couldn't remember where that second filter was. The Beast was parked outside where I was using it for dust collection on a sander for my wood deck. Someday we'll get a cordless one.
