To the people complaining about the title, honestly who gives a shit? On these trucks you’re going to replace the hub assembly with the bearing, otherwise you wind up hydraulically pressing the bearing into place, which is no picnic. The point is that this was a good, well informed video for anyone who has trouble with this particular repair.

Is it unusual for a front wheel not to want to spin freely after having installed a new wheel bearing assembly? I’m doing this on my 2006 Silverado 1500 rwd & it’s so tight after I can tighten the lug nuts all the way down with the truck still in the air.

I’ve had good luck with the Timken. and I put links for them in the description of the video. You just have to hit the drop-down arrow.

Do you use thread locker on the axl nut?
@taylordarling9215
@taylordarling9215 3 года назад
No need as the torque spec is 250 foot pounds
@Toolaholic7
@Toolaholic7 8 лет назад
Just tighten the axle nut with an impact,you can't do damage to the wheelbearing and is 100% impossible to fully torque the axle nut down.Plus you can't overtighten the axle nut with an impact.I do this all the time and no comebacks,stop when the socket quits turning.
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 8 лет назад
In most cases that's how I would do it. but you got to keep the lawyers happy. Lol thank you for watching!!
@Toolaholic7
@Toolaholic7 8 лет назад
The wheelbearing manufacturers say you can do damage to the wheelbearing when tightening the axle nut down with an impact which is a lie.The axle nut is a solid piece of steel which can't be overtightened
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 8 лет назад
+wafrederick over tightening them is not so much the problem . It's under tightening them that can cause the bearings to wear out. The squeezing of the axle and the hub is what holds the Bering together.
@trevorgay1248
@trevorgay1248 6 лет назад
I'm confused now I am hearing conflicting stories on weather or not to torque the axle not I tightened it with a impact until it quit turning is this what everyone does or should I go back and tighten it with a torque wrench

How can i find out when my wheel hubs are bad??
@ronfox5519
@ronfox5519 Год назад
If youre wondering, its probably for good reason, but when it gets real bad- you wont have any doubt. Good ways to check- Temp. Drive a few miles or more and check the temp of the wheel with you hand. Compare to the wheel on the other side. Sound. Raise wheel off ground and spin. Listen for rough sound. A stethescope will help alot. Feel. Does wheel move when you wiggle it or feel rough when you spin it?

According to AllData the Caliper bracket is 80ft lbs, hub mounting bolts are 133 ft lbs and the axle nut is 177ft lbs. For a 2003 1500 4x4

I'm sorry put this comment on your video but everybody shows the driver side no one wants to show the passenger side which is the long shaft it's a pain in the ass a short way to do it I might as well make a video because everyone shows how to take the left side out but not the right side
