OK. 1. Dude, you rock! This totally helped. Got mine replaced and it works great. 2. What about these four extra screws and this flat metal plate that I have left over... 3. Anyone else doing this, when you are putting it back together, you see his hand in the top middle. Pull that plastic flap up or the top won't go back down into place. (This took me a few minutes to figure out.) 4. Where should I send the beer? You probably saved me a few hundred dollars on hiring this out.

Super video. Print quality on M477FDW is great, and it auto duplexes. Started printing repeat blobs at side of page. Found this video, bought identical printer on eBay for $1 and switched the unit across using your video. Worked first time, delighted!!! Great instructions. Thanks for posting.

Thx! tho in my case was a small spring that came of on the left side of the fuser. only way to put it back was to pull out the fuser! cheers!

Mine is a CF379A HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw duplex model with the additional 550 feeder tray. I had several paper jams during the reverse function for the 2nd side print. It's clear the fuser is bad and there is a small ladder looking piece on the bottom edge with a little rollers that broke in half. I also have an odd print transfer on both sides of my paper on every single page. I'm not sure if that is part of the fuser, or a different part. I've had it for about six years and use it daily. I got tired of the excessively overpriced little ink cartridges that don't last very long for your home use printers. So I opted for the more business use M477fdw. I use the extra capacity ink cartridges and in a years time, I spend half the money to replace all four of them one time than the little ones for the same amount of printing every 3-4 weeks!

Thank you for the video! I was able to remove the fuser to get paper out that was very stuck. Now when I turn it back on the printer tells me that there is a motor connection problem. Did I not plug in one of the cables correctly?

Ich benötigte das Video zwar nur bis 0:55, um das Cover für die Fixiereinheit zu entfernen, aber ohne hätte ich es wohl nicht geschafft! Nur so konnte ich den kleinen Schnipsel entfernen, der meinen Drucker stillgelegt hat. Sehr hilfreich zur Behebung eines Papierstaus in einem HP 452dn!

May I ask if your Phillips bit is magnetized? If so where did you get it? The ones I have are OK as far as the magnet but have very little grip on the screw head and easily strip the screw.

There were 2 screws that were not put back unless you had extras available. One underneath and one in the door

we have a m477 and just replaced the fuser. Not complicated just time consuming. However, now all color prints are printing in magenta only. Does this have anything to do with fuser replacement or another issue possibly?

Great vid. Question, one of my co-workers mistakenly used a Ink Jet photo paper instead of laser photo paper. Since then, the laser printing has streaks. I've tried cleaning and wiping down but to no avail. New cartridges too. Thoughts on what I need to clean or replace?

Don't assume the Fuser is bad. You made a Great visual, I actually opened the fuser cover, which is the first plate and found a long thin piece of paper jammed in the fuser path. I removed it the unit was good to go !! These fuses are notorious for getting too hot and having paper and debris fuse on to the roller rendering it useless and replacement is needed. I ordered one on Amazon and it was a bad unit and I then trashed the copier as it’s not worth my time. E

this is exactly what I found. we barely use the printer so it seemed unlikely that the fuser would have pooped out. I used needle nose pliers to fish out the page fragment.

Thanks for the video! My printer says "paper jam" but I can't find the actual paper anywhere. HP's support is useless, they told me that they can get me a quote for a new one but refuse to even try repairing this one (because we need more electronic waste, right...). Is it possible that the paper is stuck inside the fuser? If so, is it possible to remove it or would I have to buy a new fuser (HP support said that they're the same price as a new full printer)?

Is this the same basic method for an m254dw? my printer is putting a crease right down the center of the page and i think it's the fuser that's causing it. is there any way to open the fuser assembly and clean the rollers? thanks.

Not really tbh. Youve probably got a dent in the hot roller and theres not much chance of fixing it

After installing the fuser, all of the pages print full color pink/magenta. The demo pages, the information pages, printed forms, all of them. Any suggestions on what I need to do to correct this? I have removed the ink cartridges and shaken them up per another video...but no luck.

Thanks for your highly detailed video. We followed this to a tee and it wasn't too complicated, only time consuming. Unfortunately the printer now jams every time - it has yet to print a single page successfully since switching fusers. Do you know anything that would cause this? Do these need oiled or lubed up in some fashion? Unfortunately HP itself is almost no help whatsoever! Regardless of the problem, all they ever want you to do is buy more of their overpriced toner...

Please ensure you have the right fuser for your machine. There are simplex and duplex versions of the fuser - which model printer do you have ?

Im pretty sure that youve not seated the solinoid on the fuser. If you strip it down again(i know it sucks) and look to the left hand side theres a white arm that needs to be seated correctly

Just a FYI, the M477fdn removal is different. The sides don’t pop off as easy as in your video.

@jmuir84 Amen brother. This is definitely not as involved as the duplex printers. 2 screwdrivers is a good idea. I did it. I broke a few tabs off.

@@mightycrow7 I had one very long thin flat head screwdriver that was used for prying and poking blindly around all sides... but I did break off 2 tabs. So I can't say my method works. I can say that there are a few locking points along the printer's bottom edge, so use a good light and a long screwdriver, work back to front, and you will gradually get the panels loose enough to work comfortably.

Yeah.... this video is more for just making you realize you have to get into the sides to remove wires I think. For the M477 I lost at least 3-4 tabs. You can't just leave the sides on and only prop them open. Especially when reconnecting the larger number of wires. Thanks for the video though, as it gave me at least some direction. Not quite sure why HP would have drastically changed the procedure of replacing a pretty frequently replaced part. Considering the part was about $250+ and any normal repair shop would have easily charged about $100-150 to replace this, it's almost better for the end users to purchase a new printer.

Did you simply turn the fuser around and reinstall it or did you actually install a new fuser? I cannot tell it just looks like you took the old fuse or out and flipped it around and reinstalled it

mine gives error 55.30.00 after replacement. I checked and the cords look and feel secure, but maybe not? Can't find anything about what would cause this.

Christ that's complicated. The fuser rollers in ours are about spent. I bought replacement rollers and film off amazon and I'm trying to build up the courage to open our printer up. Has OP tried to open the fuser kit itself to replace parts (rather than replace the whole thing)? Do I have a chance in the world?

It is a big job. We build printer fusers in scale for printer service companies in the USA. Rebuilding is a little tricky especially when it come to the grease type and application placement. I recommend buying fusers instead of rebuilding ones. In the case of the M452 fuser they are a little hard to find. The lower pressure roller is another issue. There is no good quality manufactures of the roller as of the date this was written and it does not look like anyone is working on developing it. There are companies like ours around the world that rebuild these

This is a very good video but how complicated is that removal and replacement. I have a 479 printer and the fuser unit failed after just three months. HP have been appalling over repairing it and it still is not fixed to date some two months later. Advice is BOYCOTT HP PRINTERS.

The purpose of the video is to demonstrate how to remove the part in his hand @2:34 normally you would replace it with a working part at this point. but he simply demonstrates how to reattach the old part as his part was not broken to begin with.
