Thankyou for this video. My mate owns a 2016 Fatbob and was gonna send it to Harley to have the rear brake done. I own a Gen 2 Hayabusa but have had a Vrod, Vrod muscle and two Buell XB12s both in Cherry bomb red with Drummer exhausts. Always did any and all work I could myself. Have just done the rear pads for him and would’ve struggled without this video. Well done, clear and concise, everything was in view or shown so easy to check o had done it correctly. Was a price of cake to do. Compressed the brakes myself by hand. All back in and tight. Thankyou, and kindest regards Dean Cooling Wales, UK. It is hard to video and do the work all at the same time. I did however, I enlisted the wife to work the camera when she is available.

Pretty sure I got mine back on without aligning those ears properly, and it trashed my rotor. Thanks for the info!

Yes that's so easy to do. Not a great design by HD.

Hello! For some reason, after I tightened the 2 caliper mounting bolts, it continues to move a short distance along the brake disc. hand effort is enough. There is nowhere to turn the bolts further, but the caliper continues to be movable. Tell me what could be the matter? In my country they don't give me a clear answer.
@DrHarley
@DrHarley Месяц назад
It doesn't seem that you have the bolt seated for the caliper.

Hi. Great video! I have 2012 Fatboy, I installed EBC semi sintered - and they came without the metal bracket for the inner pad. The worn pads had that bracket. I tried to install the bracket on the new EBC pads - and couldn't install the pads on the rotor, so eventually I installed the new pads without the metal bracket on the inner pad. Is it ok?
@DrHarley
@DrHarley Месяц назад
The brakes will still work, however, that is an anti rattle shim and prevents wear on the mounting bracket.

I respectfully disagree with using a tool to collapse the piston by prying the brake pads away from the rotor . Use your hand by firmly grabbing the the top of the caliper and with a rocking motion toward you and away from you it will come off easily without potential damage to the rotor. What makes it even easier is if you take the cover off your master cylinder before you try collapsing the brake piston. If you’re worried about getting air in your brake lines don’t be, you probably need to Change your brake fluid anyway. This is the perfect time to do everything at once.

What I forgot to mention is I pry agents the brake pad and not the rotor. But you are correct with the way you do it. There is always more than one way to skin a cat.

Hello! Is this the same process for a 2012 fatboy lo? Thanks!
@DrHarley
@DrHarley Год назад
Its basically the same process.. Not much difference. Enjoy wrenching on your bike..

After it's a bolted down and finished, when not pressing the break, is it normal to be able to move the caliper by hand slightly? Im talking about very little. Thanks
@DrHarley
@DrHarley 6 месяцев назад
Yes that's normal. Because it's on slides

just did my rear pads for the first time on a 2011 fxdc, was a 'job'.. with everything tightened down, the rear wheel is now harder to turn by hand with the bike lifted on a jack. would this be normal with new pads or could I have done something wrong?
@DrHarley
@DrHarley Месяц назад
You should not be ble to turn the wheel by hand. It is possible that fhe pad is stuck on the anti tattle.clip.
@mike7197
@mike7197 Месяц назад
@DrHarley thanks, but just to clarify, before doing the rear brakes I could turn the wheel easily (brake pedal not depressed) but you're saying with the new pads installed I should not be able to spin it at all? Both pads are in their slots.
@DrHarley
@DrHarley Месяц назад
@mike7197 yes, you can spin the wheel without the pedal depressed. When pressing the pedal, you should not spin the wheel
