I agree with you absolutely Dave . Why build a decent looking drill and then put on a cheap plastic flimsy switch ? I had a similar instance.. My Qualcast Lawn Mower would not run.I traced the fault to the switch box on the handle.Burnt out.Could I find a replacement ?No way.Acomplete handle assembly cost over £20 .I ended up buying a Macalister because in the long run more cost effective .I guess you were lucky to get that part Dave, although I dont know anything about FAR tools.Enjoyed the tips and advice .Thank you.
You're welcome Mark, thanks for watching. Yes, that was really cheap and nasty. I tried to super glue it but that didn't last long! Finding spares for anything is a nightmare and trying to get something repaired is impossible in our new throw away society.
Thanks for this video. I was given a Power Devil drill that didn’t work. Some small bits of plastic had jammed the trigger. Although it worked after, it would only work at full speed. You have made my mind up to purchase a switch and attempt to graft it in. They seem to be generic in design, so hopefully I can swop the buttons on to the new switch. Nice no nonsense, music free video.
Thank you Alan, !! i bought mine from Amazon and yes you're right, a lot of the triggers seem to be a similar design. Hope you can find one and get your drill working properly again
Dave, I have a Skil drill with the same situation -- solid drill with cheesy plastic forward/reverse switch. It got stuck, and when I forced it, I think the switch broke (it's now stuck in reverse mode). I'd like to replace it, but the part is discontinued. Do you know if they're interchangeable? My model # is 6215 and the switch looks just like the one you got on Amazon, but I can't find anything like it online.
Had a look at your drill and yes the switch looks the same. Inside the switch there are 2 little metal plates that slide backwards and forwards to make contact. Maybe one of them slipped out of place. If you want to try it, make sure you have a magnifying glass and nimble fingers. This is the switch that I got from Amazon France; www.amazon.fr/dp/B09KXTGJPW/ref=pe_27091421_487030221_TE_SCE_3p_dp_1
@@davekennedy52 Well, I'm just old-fashioned I guess. I'm not fond of the throw-away society we've developed. I'd prefer to have things well made and keep them for years instead of a bunch of plastic junk made in China that piles up in the landfills. But I had a good run with my Skil drill. *sigh*
