Recently had a problem with tailgate on my Discovery 3 luckily I found your video, the instructions are very clear and concise, and after purchasing the said part from you I fitted without any problems, it now works a treat. Result !! Better than going to my local Land Rover dealership who quoted me £145 to go on the diagnostic machine, to tell me what I already knew, plus whatever costs on top of that what would have amounted to £200-£300. I maybe in touch about my sat nav. Many thanks.
It just great to have this channel. The number of things I’ve fixed on my disco 4 just by watching how to do it here. The latest being my boot lid switch (as per this video). Keep up the great work.
Very helpful - thanks very much for posting this. I found a short length of bungee strap in the boot lock ends held the door at just the right angle to work on. Defininately need to cut those wires as close as possible to the old handle as there is absolutely no slack to work with. Likewise need to take great care stripping the wires as they are so thin and practically speaking - you're only getting one shot at it.
Thank you so much for this video. It has pinpointed the problem I had with my tailgate. So, the issue I had with my D4 was the top tailgate would open with the remote, but not the top tailgate button. This eliminated the actuator, so by process of elimination and your video, hey presto the tailgate button/ switch was the the cause. I replaced the tailgate finger switch and it’s now working fine. Great videos and thank you 🙌
I fitted one of these replacement switches the other day and found it much easier to connect the new wires using a choc block because the wiring is so short coming out of the handle that it was really difficult to tell if the wire was correctly seated in the crimp connector before crimping.
I did the fix on the actuator and alls been ok then yesterday it won't open again , the button trick works to pop the tailgate so does that indicate my repair is all good and its now the switch that's buggered?
Have you ever heard of the upper actuator constantly trying to open? When my LR3 is unlocked the upper tailgate randomly (every few seconds) sounds like it’s trying to open. When the car is locked it stops. Any advice would be hugely appreciated!
Of course it’s now 5 years since the posting of this video and my 2013 D4 may need this switch. Is it still available for sale (if cleaning the existing switch doesn’t work)? The previously posted links to the part didn’t work. Thanks for great videos.
Your videos and products are the best. I purchased this from you, and installed, works perfectly. Took me a little extra time, the old wires were brittle, and one snapped, leaving me with one very short wire. I’ve ordered a few items from you, and am amazed it only takes 2 days to arrive in the U.S. Don’t understand the few thumbs down. Hmmm. Thank you!
Hi my tailgate switch wont open the tailgate or the switch on the dash but it will from the remote and the switch is working (opening and closing) is their a fuse for it my manual said its fuse 63 but that has no fuse in it ??
Thanks for that; on my Discovery 4 the insert was plastic with a spring clip and not aluminium. Also the plastic clips on the side take time to locate and squeeze in so I suspect you broke the first one as yours came out so easily. Interestingly mine stopped working after work on the car and then started working again so I wonder if sometimes the switch gets blamed when actually it’s the computer that’s got in a knot when the battery has been disconnected. When mine wouldn’t work (but the key fob would) I could hear the micro switch operating but it was not firing the actuator which is why I looked inside to see if a wire had fallen off or something obvious.
Hi guys. Love your videos. Re the upper tailgate switch; you say this is a common fault/problem. What is the symptom? My D4 upper tailgate has developed a mind of its own: sometimes the switch works when I press it, sometimes not. Other times it works by itself - I can hear the actuator working when I'm within earshot. Is this the common problem you refer to i.e. intermittent function caused by a faulty switch? (the actuator seems to operate the lock/unlock ok - it just works at-will). Hoping you have some insight.....
Presumably you got an answer on this but I took my Discovery 4 switch out yesterday and apart from the internal plate being plastic rather than aluminium it was just the same. So my answer would be you could do this repair on a 4 but if you wanted to fit the complete replacement part you’d be looking at taking the whole assembly off (which looking at their video is quite involved)
Hi there, I have watched some of your videos on RU-vid and they helped me immensely, but I'm still having some problems and hope you maybe able to help I own a 09 landrover discovery 3 and my tailgate wouldn't open and on one of videos it suggested pressing the lock and unlock buttons together which I did and the tailgate opened, I also tried the key fob and as you suggested and it opened, you could hear the actuator operating every time so I was pretty sure the actuator and cables were OK. So I decided to order a new operating handle that's on the upper tailgate, it arrived and I fitted it as directed in your RU-vid video but still not opening the tailgate mmmmm. I am wondering if there is a relay or something in line with the tailgate handle that may have failed, we have checked the voltage at the handle and are getting 2.1volts don't know if that's what we should be getting or if it should be more. I have had the actuator and latch out and everything seems to be working as it should when operating with the key, checked the voltage going to the actuat when pressing the key fog and we're getting 12volts. Sorry if this is a bit long winded but I'm really hoping you can help, thanks and hope you can help Thanks Royan
@@xurtix Me to. Keyfob is working to open the tailgate. Button is not working. Removed the button an checked with multimeter. It is working. Than I checked the voltage on the button cable and it is 12v. weird.
Don’t know if you guys got an answer on this. Putting aside that there could be a wiring fault in the loom I do wonder if the computer can get itself in a knot when the power’s been off which prevents operation. Just had a bit of erratic operation on my 4 after maintenance
Hello Do you have a vid on replacing the switch an loom I have tried. Just a new switch but did not work so I think I need to replace the loom in side the wires looks crap Any advice would be brill 👍🏼
@@luqmaanlamara9633 hello I got a reclaimed switch in the end and lights I was the whole lot then took what I needed I work out cheaper then new an they where original parts when I did pop the switch in I glued it in to to stop any dirt and wet getting in good luck
Hey, seems like I’m in the same boat. Replaced actuator, didn’t work. Replaced switch like in this video, still not working. Did you replace the loom? Any good resources you used to replace it?
Hi - this is a brilliant video and really useful - thank you. Just a very quick question: If the double button trick on the dash works on the LR3 and unlocks the tailgate, does that mean that the actuator still works, and therefore doesn't need replacing and the problem is likely something else (like the switch)?? Grateful for your help? Thanks
Hi there is it the same way to remove the tailgate switch on the discovery 4 2010 ad I only got to remove the rubber not the rest of the housing is still inside can you help thanks
@@cororegan121 hi there, I replaced my tailgate handle but still won't activate the actuator which is in working order. What do you mean wire was earthing and how did you fix it
Hey need some help if anyone has some insight. My tailgate wasn’t opening. I thought it was the actuator on the bottom, so I replaced that. Still wasn’t working, then I realized it may be the switch on the top tailgate. Purchased a new one, installed it, and it’s still not working. What would be my next likely culprit? Thanks in advance!
My cables were so corroded that they broke by themself and now i have to open the whole assembly, anyone with a video or guide to how to do it? its a disco 4
@@shirra86 This video covers everything you need. You wouldn't need to fully remove the light housing, but that is shown as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lz01q0OJTlQ.html
