Just finished the valve cover gasket job on my 2008 335xi. Took me about 9 hours and I took my time and did some extra stuff along the way. Your video saved me $1k. If there is someone who should get paid for youtube vids, it is you! The editing, narration, and concise yet clear depiction is remarkable. And YES, its very important to have the reassembly instructions.

Thank you for making these videos. I have now used this one and one for the coolant tank replacement on my 2008 535xi and the secondary air injection on my 2005 lexus GX470. You show in such a strait forward and easy manner with good technique especially during trouble areas. I think the least people can do is buy the recommended parts off of your links, hopefully that would pay you back in some way.

@@HowtoAutomotive Yea i went thru the video again....the ONLY thing a screwed up was over tightening the middle, deep 10mm bolt in the middle of the valve cover that holds the ground wires from the spark plugs, it broke off, part of the bolt is still there, so I just ran the 3 ground wires to the front post (by crimping to a longer 12g wire)....surely this cannot be the reason isn't not firing up??
@NUNYABIZNNAAAZZZ
@NUNYABIZNNAAAZZZ 5 лет назад
Ok, so the car started. I pulled all 6 of the new coils I installed, I noticed from all DIY videos on spark plug and coil replacement that the coils where slightly angled up, almost at a 45 degree, mine were all straight to the right...so I pulled them all up (took alot of force) and resat them, in the correct place and inserted the wiring, firmly and the car fired right up. Im still pretty upset with myself for breaking that, deep 10mm, middle ground bolt off...I dont know how to extract it, I have the replacement bolt already. Any idea? I have a few pics if you can help further.

Do you have to do anything to bleed the air out of the fuel system since you remove the fuel rail and the lines that go from the rail to injectors?
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 7 лет назад
Pedro Carvajal you don't need to bleed the system it will bleed when the injectors opened up to spray.

Excellent video. Your engine is same as in my 2011 BMW Z4 35i. Following your video, I could get to the point where you removed the 2 vacuum lines and fuel line. Video was cut at the vacuum lines near 9:17. How to remove the 2 vacuum lines ? Is the fuel rail attached to the cover ?
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 7 лет назад
Chakravarthy Cuddapah The fuel line is not attached to the cover but it's bolted right next to it and it pinches it. So if you take the mounting bolts on the fuel rail off it'll will lean back just enough to clear the valve cover.vacuum lines are flexible and you pull him through
@cuddapah
@cuddapah 7 лет назад
Thanks for your quick reply. Can you please tell me how to remove the 2 vacuum lines ?
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 7 лет назад
Chakravarthy Cuddapah I held the plastic portion of the lines in one hand and used a screwdriver to push the vacuum lines off the tubes. You can also use a small pick tool to pick inside the hoses to loosen them up.

OMG thank you for making this video. I have a 2010 335i coupe and I'm new to the BMW car world. I was just surprised on the many area's the N54 motor has oil leaks. Mine is where the oil filter is, bad oil filter housing gasket and oil cooler gasket, and the other place is the engine valve cover. Going to the dealer will cost an arm and a leg. I have no issues doing it myself, I'm just glad I found this video. The most accurate and step by step video. With this I can finally start my gasket replacement not to mention spark coils and spark plug project. Quick question, for the spark plug tubes. Are you sure this is the correct part number 11127575422. I looked it up and it said for N52 engines. Then again they could work for the N54. Would you be able to let me know?

perhaps the ticking gets louder when you take off the top engine plastic cover with the foam on it. i had a problem though where one of those vaccuum lines that run behing the oil cooler housing acrros the top of the valve covers ruptured on me therefore i didnt have a proper vaccuum to the turbos causing them to not spool. please check that since he did state they will easily break off. This was a week ago so hopefully you found what was wrong!

@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 7 лет назад
Lemuel Alfaro code P2096 is for the oxygen sensor before the Cat. If the code was there before you did the work on the car then most likely the oxygen sensor is bad or a large vacuum leak somewhere. If the code appeared after you did the work on your vehicle I would go back over your work and double check for any vacuum leaks or any wires left disconnected.
@lemuelalfaro9848
@lemuelalfaro9848 7 лет назад
To the car they changed the injectors the gasoline pump since it appeared that code I take it to the mechanic because it had a gasoline smell and it was the oring of the gas pump it was mounted a new oring but the code keeps appearing. And nothing changes the pcv valve selenoide control and nothing returns the code change the charge pipe complete with blowoff and nothing returned the code the last thing I did change the joints of the manifold when I turned on the car the code p2096 off but the next day I do not know what else to do. What I noticed is that when I use the car during the day to do the errands the code seva. In the scaner that stays blinkied is the evap. I hope you understand everything I wrote thanks for wanting to help me

Can anyone provide a time estimate on this repair labor wise? I went to the dealership today and of coarse they tried to rape me with 6k in repairs. This was one of the repairs they said I absolutely needed. I’ve done this on several other non-foreign cars and the job wasn’t that bad. After looking at this, seems like a pain but there are many RU-vid videos on this repair for my vehicle that range anywhere from 30 mins to 1 hr 15 minutes. They quoted me 4K for the repair and it’s $75 in parts. So that $3925 in labor, which doesn’t make sense to me considering I would assume a certified BMW technician with a moderate level of experience would be capable of performing this repair within 4 hrs ish. I’m going to just do this job myself but how long has this taken others to do and how badly are the dealers ripping ppl off?
