i have a 2000 honda crv, it threw the timing belt, but i am a 66 year old man that can't get around very good and my wife loves her car, but it looks like to much work for me to do, can't afford the shop prices, so i watched your video and i guess i will sell it,
Just kind of winging it for now everything is online the auction is two and a half hours away from me so not really worth it for me to drive down there just to look at a few cars check them out when they get here and either they're good or bad
I did the same thing lined up top dead center and crank was lined up with the oil pump mark But when I put my black timing(lower) cover on the crank pulley doesn't line up? But is between the front 3 marks and the rear mark Does that mean it's off? Or is it supposed to be in between the marks on the crank?
Sometimes the plastic covers are slightly off but you should make sure the crank and oil pump are lined up for sure underneath will damage the engine if timing is off
Thanks alot for an other outstanding video, I own a 2000 crv right hand drive and would like to make these changes on my own, due squeaking noises when I start and fades afterward. I also get a loud squeak when the AC is on; can you recommend all the hand toosl I need to get this job done can't afford power tools as yet. Thanks
Yes you can do anything with just hand tools little bit harder and takes a little bit longer but you can get it done sounds like maybe your accessory belts are loose
My belt is already tight and doesn’t need replacing but i do need to fix my cam gear (it’s not aligned with the holes of the UP indicator) with that information am I able to just adjust the gears like you did in the video or am i suppose to use the crankshaft ? I’m working on a honda cr-v 1999. This would really help me out I just want to make sure i won’t bend or break anything . Thank you 🙏
He did it wit the cam gears because the older belt wasn't on so he couldn't set up the cam marks/TDC wit the crank because the belt needs to be on in order for the cam gears to move when moving the crank. If your belt is off and the cam gear marks, cam holes, and crank marks aren't all lined up at the same time then you can use the cam gears to line up the holes and marks for the cams. If your old belt is on and the cam holes are not inline and the cam marks aren't ether then just use the crank and turn it counter clock wise to line up the cam marks and the cam holes. Then check if your crank marks also line up like he shows at 12:38. If the cam gear marks, cam holes, and crank marks aren't all lined up at the same time then you can take off the belt and do what he did with the cams. Just listen close to what he said on the part of the video bout it getting stiff or hard to back off and then turn the crank
My question is if your belt is already tight and doesn’t need replacing then why are you asking do you need to fix your cam gear? Did you just take off the valve cover to inspect the timing belt? If so and you didn’t replace it already or mess wit the timing belt then there is no need for you to align the holes. The cams gears turn as your engine runs so every time you shut off your engine it isn’t going to automatically line of all the marks. It’s left off at the points where you shut the engine off last..
The motor runs counter clockwise. Is it okay to spin the cams clockwise like that? only things I would've added was locking cams through the holes you mentioned.
The short answer: Yes. The long answer: You don't "Have To", but if you don't, you would need to somehow rotate both Cam Sprockets and the Crankshaft perfectly in time, (at 1:2 speed), until they all reach TDC together, otherwise you would grind the pistons into the valves. This would of course be ridiculous and nearly impossible, so yeah... just leave the timing belt on and rotate them all to TDC together.
Good video but why didn't you cover the cams so no debris would get into your engine? Saw you just throw the bracket for the engine mount onto the cams and I was disappointed
Yes customers are allowed to test drive vehicles they are covered through my dealership insurance or their private insurance with a demonstration agreement
@@zsproshop any advice on easiest way for a young flipper to achieve that (without a dealers license)? I’m 18 and car insurance is expensive for me, any alternatives?
Feel sorry for who ever buys this car. Interference engine means bent valves, there is no luck. I knownthisnbecause i purchased one where the so called mechanic thought he was lucky as well. It migh run but you end up damaging the engine more.
