I changed the spark plugs on my 1999 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder and found oil in spark plug tube number 4. The oil had leaked through the spark plug tube seal, so I changed the valve cover gasket, and all 4 spark plug tube seals. Here is the video of how I did it.

I apologize for not showing the removal and replacement of the spark plug tube seals. They should come with your gasket kit, and you can access them once the valve cover is removed.

Did you torque the 30mm nuts to spec?

@cometwatch51 thanks for the video. i'm hoping this will solve my problem cause right now 2 of my spark plugs are misfiring on the same year and model car. was yours misfiring?

Good video everything was explained very well except you need to use a torque wrench and tighten the valve cover nuts to 33 ft/lbs

Other web sites and videos suggested the torque to be 17 ft/lb.

Apparently they backed off on the torque. 17ft lbs sounds more correct being the tubes are very thin...A tech on another site says they just tighten till its hand tight because they do break easily. So your better tighten it using one hand on the top of the rachet.

Thanks well done and straight to the point! Is there an alternative tool to use rather than a 30mm socket? I bought the gasket kit and did not realize that's how the cover was held on. Im used to american cars with smaller bolts around the perimeter. Thanks, I will try this soon.

Do we need to wait for the gasket sealer to become dry before we start the engine??

Hi James, I just bought a camry 1999 with 113000 miles on it. Before buying, I got it checked at tires plus, and they informed the oil pump is leaking. But now I am worrying if the car has oil sludge problem. How can I know if there is oil sludge. I checked the exhaust gas and it didn't smell at all. Also there is no soot in the exhaust pipe. I am really worried. Could you pls provide some tips. WIll be much appreciated.

I suppose you could use a large cresent wrench.

Mine was running slightly rough, and it could certainly misfire if the spark plug (or plugs) was completely immersed in oil.

everything is good except that gasket maker you put on lol, there are only a few spots id put it and definitely not all the way around, that's begging for a leak

should be good with the gasket alone
