I am definitely not a mechanic, but I just finished replacing my water pump, thermostat, and temperature sensor. Also I was able to remove and cleaned my throttle body intake. I could not have done it without this channel. Friends for life!

I find it much easier if you prep the new pump first by taking a real thin skim coat of RTV putting it on the back of the water pump and then placing the gasket in place then what I do is I take the 8 mm bolts I put them all in place holding the gasket in place that way by time I get the old one off the gasket is sealed and dried to the water pump then I apply another coat of our TV and install the new water pump that way you're not fighting with the gasket and taking a chance of destroying it

FWIW: When doing this, I cut a piece of cardboard the size of the radiator core and slipped in next to the radiator to prevent and possible mishaps and possible radiator damage.

Thanks for this video. I’m getting ready to have the water pump replaced or do it myself I’m not sure which. One little trick you might show your viewers sometime when you’re installing something with a large gasket like the water pump, put a little grease on the water pump surface where the gasket is supposed to go and that grease will help hold the gasket in placewhile you’re installing the part. Thanks again for the great video guys. I appreciate it.

Video helped, thank you. Unfortunately my water pump gasket came halfway folded in the box. I had trouble lining up the holes and the pump inadvertently fell off while i was trying to thread the bolts in. I used rtv to tack the gasket flat onto the pump. When i went to fill up the system i noticed the pump poked a hole in the damn radiator when it fell. I have to pull the radiator tomorrow. ugh.

I rented the tools to remove the fan clutch. One is for the nut on the fan clutch. The other holds the water pump pully still so you can unscrew the fan nut. I rented them from 'autos own'. ( I don't want to violate any copyrights, but i think you can figure it out.) Anyway, you get your money back when you return the tools. The tool that holds the water pump pully looks silly, but if you figure out how to use it (it's not that hard), it works pretty well. You can even use it to remove the water pump pully bolts by holding the pully still with it and loosening each pully bolt one at a time. Sometimes the tensioner trick shown in the video doesn't work. It didn't for me. Save yourself the trouble; rent the fan clutch wrench and the pully holder tool.

4:51 "Loosen the nut." ...you are loosening the nut counter clockwise [to the left], but I've read that the direction is supposed to be clockwise. I've also seen videos where the nut is being loosened clockwise [to the right]. Is that maybe because the older model Rangers were set up that way?
@Fsilone
@Fsilone Год назад
Looking at the blades, the belt moves counterclockwise to move the air rearward. The resistance of the fan forces it clockwise relative to the belt, tightening it in the process.
@Fsilone

So holding the belt in place with resistance and moving the fan counterclockwise relative to it will loosen it.

Just becarefull when tighning because sometimes the screwdriver will slide out from underneight the bolts.
@gabriels181
@gabriels181 2 года назад
For those of you that have this problem (like me), you’ve probably misunderstood the instructions and removed all 4 screws on the water pump pulley instead of just 2. If you do that, the pulley is no longer connected to the pump itself and the bolt will just spin freely instead of loosening. Put at least 2 of the screws back and try again, or just go to Autozone like I did and they’ll loan you the proper tools for free. Made it way easier.

this video did not show in any sense, useful instructions how to remove the nut that connects the fan to the fan clutch, what if the nut will not budge, if it is so tight that the clutch slips when tightening the belt and applying the adjustable wrench. What then ? and what direction to turn the nut to loosen was not mentioned. The local autoZone will lend out a tool to grasp the clutch and a separate tool to turn the fan nut, they require a deposit, and the customer can keep the tool for 90 days. Perhaps your video could show the many different ways to loosen the fan nut.
