Good video. I recently had to have the water pump replaced, I'm glad the entire kit was done, as it's a surprisingly awkward job to have to repeat too often in the same area.
(lube o-ring with g12 coolant before installing) after pump is installed use a coolant vac to check for leaks then swap vac for fill attactment and fill back up...a coolant vac kit eliminates air pockets!...a engine support bar from ecstuning is a better tool to use when doing this job but I guess a 4 stands and floor jack works too. also a vag 1590 tool helps when holding the waterpump while removing pulley!
I just did the water pump on my 2.8l 2003 Bora. This video helped a lot thanks. I did however lower the car so the wheels had full weight before I jacked up the engine. This meant the CV joints and drive shaft had less of an angle to deal with. This whole job sounds complicated but it is actually quite easy. I did not have to bleed the cooling system, just fill, drive and top up.
This was a great video This video saved me a lot of hassle, time and money. Luckily, i did not have to move the coolant reservoir or notch the mount. The only hiccups i hit were whoever replaced the pump the last time put sealant around the pump on top the O ring, way over torqued the pulley bolts, and put some kind of threadlock on them. Cleaning the sealant was annoying. With the bolts all three stripped out on me. Had to use an angle grinder with small cutting wheel to reach in and grind the heads off.
That pump was crazy tight because had been changed before. Originally the pump had triple square cap screws that are easy to strip out. If stripped the job is WAY more fun!
This was a great video. It sort of gave me insight into changing my engine mounts as well. But any way, my 04 GTI VR6 is running a tad bit on the hot side. I don't necessarily hear anything coming from the pully/water pump, but I noticed that after driving (on a hot day) that my coolant level is significantly high (as if there is no circulation) I'm thinking that my pump may be bad. Any suggestions?
My 2000 VR is overheating. It overheats at highway speed and it's winter. I topped off the coolant 6 months ago and again 3 days ago. The oil fill cap is clean iniside. There's plenty of heat from the dash. I got down to the pump and it's tight and quiet. IDK if I should go ahead and change it or not. Was done by my mechanic 4 years ago. What are the odds it's the thermostat?
I doing this job now and the bottom triple squared bolt stripped out 🤦🏻♂️ now I drilled the screw through and looks like I have to use the same method that u used to get yours to break free
I had the same problem with the mount. I think having the front end on stands may cause the engine to lean slightly toward the back; once I had the engine jacked up, I used a wood 2x2 to leverage the engine forward just enough. I blocked against the drip edge.
its alot easy of you have a engine support bar and you lower it and take it out from the bottom verse the top. also eliminates removing more up top than needed. besure to remove dog bone before raising or lowering engine.
How much coolant is required to fill it back up. I've filled the reservoir twice at least and it runs through the system in a matter of minutes. Coolant is not leaking anywhere to cause it to come out either
also do you have bad misfires?....a bad head gasket can allow cooling to get pulled into the cylinders and destroy your cat and with the cat being is pieces on the inside it clogs up your resonator!
Nice vid. Definitely cover your arms and EYES when draining coolant. It's NASTY stuff. It can be reused if it's in good shape you use a catch clean container.
My jetta is draining water from the container! I think the water pump is fail. But i dont hear a bad noise at all. Tempeture is normal. Water boils is a bad pump???? 🤷♂️
