I haven't gone to a mechanic in almost 2 years you tube has saved me a bunch of money, I love all of these how to videos. Big thanks Scotty with your vids I can afford to keep driving my old truck.
Scotty, just wanted to tell you how much I love your channel. Your personality is fantastic and I watch all your videos even when I don't have the problem in question.
Its worth mentioning for someone who has never done this before that replacing this bearing on the front of the same car would require removing the axle nut, tie rod end and ball joint/or strut
One tip to avoid brake rotors from seizing on to the hubs: apply a very very small amount of anti-seize to the hub flange where it meets the rotor, this makes it much easier to remove in the future. Rotors can get badly corroded to the hubs and be difficult to remove without damage.
Thanks brother..was easy in terms of knowing what I was doing, time wise, took me forever, because nothing wanted to come off or on smoothly WTF!!!! AHHH!! So it took me all day, but took my time, lolligagged, who cares, but I did..I'm assuming saved 200 bucks min..whatever, I learned something more importantly. You make everthing look too easy, I know you edit it obviously, but I literally know basic car mechanics. thx again bro, best channel by far!!

Any chance you can tell us the time it takes to carry out these jobs in your future videos, so we/ I can judge wether it's an all day job or an afternoon, cheers fella from London England.
Im so glad you did this video ha. My hub for some reason always goes out on the front of my every year or so for some reason. I get it aligned and everything but it still happens. I'm defininitly trying this next time since they charge me 500$ every time I get them changed...
My car's mechanic told me that the right rear wheel bearer need to be replaced in my car, he mentioned nothing about the left side. Would it be better to replace them as pairs or just replace the bad one only? its 600 dollars to fix the bad one only
I have a 2006 Mazda 3 with 143k kms. in it, fortunately, I have'nt replaced the rear hub bearings. It seems an easy job for a DIY'er. Thanks for the video reference.
My 07 Dodge Charger is squeals when it's in driving. The squeals stop when I apply the brakes. My mechanic said the rear hubs should be replaced a few months ago and the car was not making noise. I declined the service and now 6 months later I have this terrible squealing. Are the hubs to blame for the high pitched squealing or is it time for new pads? Thank you I enjoy your videos.
Good stuff man. but before you mention it, I don't think I'm gonna make to watching your live car talk show Saturday morning at 10 am on RU-vid just yet. Definitely checkin out your videos for the time being, though.
I shoulda sucked it up and did this job myself on my 03 Tiburon. It's just when you need the car the next day, and you have never done the job before it's easy to wuss out and take it to the dealer. :(
Did you have much trouble removing the wheel hub assembly? I just changed my front ones on a 1995 Chrysler LHS. That was fun, im thinking they were original. Rust welded in. But hub puller and a 3 pound sledge took care of it. Though had to punch the other part of the hub assembly out.
That sure is easy in the south. When those rust into the knuckle there, it's a whole lot more interesting. I have a 6 lb sledge that usually persuades them to come out.
I love it when you notice dumb engineering mistakes and then call them stupid haha. As an "engineer" myself, I'll draw up all my prints, things get assembled and wired up, then as I'm running the machine I'll start noticing little dumb things I did and wonder why I did it that way. Most of the time its too late to make changes or its irrelevant to the process and its fine the way it is. But yes, engineers can be dumb...
Just had to do this on my Cobalt. On the Cobalt, you have to disconnect the shock, pull down the whole assembly so you can pull the coil spring out, then you'll have access to the nuts that hold the hub on. It was pretty easy, but the brake drum was a bitch to get off. Also, my spring is broken. The other side is broken too. It still rides fine, so I'm not too worried about it. Best of all, the noise is gone and I saved over $200 in labor.
that's so weird, your latest video on this wheel bearing is my latest problem. I live in the U.K., I drive a Vauxhall Vectra 2001 model, and the rear drivers side wheel is making a strange 'bell alarm' like noise when I drive. also my ABS sensor comes on usually as soon as I reach 45-50mph. Im guessing the two are related?
Great video Scotty, but you should change the title to include the word "rear" because you didn't have to play around with the drive shaft. I was hoping you would. I just did this on the front of our van and was hoping to pick up a few tips from you on how to remove the drive shaft from the hub assembly.

I get what your saying from play being visible from a bad hub but your video clearly shows loose lugs. Lol. The lugs would move with the rim if the play was the bearing.. but I guess you were just trying to make it more obvious to the viewers.. your videos are great though.
Scotty Kilmer I call bullshit on that, i would rather spin the tyre around with my hand and feel the vibration trough the spring/shock absorber with my other hand. In some cases the bearing will not have any play because it is very worn out. You will also be able to hear the bearing just by turning the wheel fast. Lug nuts will not loosen themselves from what i have experienced.
Roy Almås Who knows how long it had been that way? It takes some time for the tire to wear like that. I'm pretty sure he did more than the 3 seconds of diagnosis he showed in the video. If all the lugs were loose like that, the studs would have snapped off long ago, too.
You can check wheel bearings by driving as you can hear the sound (in many cases) and when turning it can make the sound worse E.g if you have a bad wheel bearing humming thats front left and you turn right, it will get louder. Well my question is does this turning method work for rear wheel bearings?
Hi Scotty my front wheel bearing is gone on my 95 Lexus ES300 my mechanic told me that the bearing COULD be not just the only thing thats bad also the hub assembly and the spindle do you aggree do you think id be on just puting a bearing on or should i buy hub and bearing together?? He said I could also get a complete knuckle and spindle off another car at a junk yard what should I do? Thank you
Hey Scotty! I've got a 99 Bonneville that starts to wobble around 65 MPH and gets worse the faster it goes, could a wheel bearing be the fault? Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks Scotty! My Mazda protege is 2003 made and not intend to keep very long..so went for cheaper one. but my question was.. in my situation.. is it worth paying 120$ each hub bearing verus cheaper 45$..
Funny....replacing a hub assembly was this weeks repair video.....the other day, some guy in a Dodge pick up had the whole wheel assembly come off while taking a turn going out of my complex. Would have offered to repair it for him, but I was busy....plus I didn't have a tow truck. Maybe I should get a winch for my crown victoria
Hey Scotty! I have a 03 Celica GTS, I am getting lots of noise coming from my rear, I suspect it's my rear right bearing because its making a droning noise as I am picking up speed to around 40mph. I don't think aftermarket 17 inch rims or my Toyo Proxes 4 tires are the problem.
I replaced my front passenger side hub a while back and the abs sensor cord wasn't connected properly and was ripped out... now I don't have abs, how would I fix this? Thanks! Love the channel

Hey Scotty, I have a 1999 Dakota that used to shake like crazy going about 55-60 mph and up. Just put new tires on it last week and bought some wheel bearing hubs also but haven't put those on yet. Truck rides much smoother now with new tires but old tires had the same wear as the tire in the video, do you think the bearings are bad or just a bad set of tires or both?
tires wear like that for a reason, it needs new tires but also work to fix such wear. Put the bearings on and also check ball joints as those eat em up
Man, I I broke the dorman stud Trying to take off a log knot that got stuck. And I thought that I was going to have to change the whole thing. But on a toyota tacoma 2006 4 cylinder, it just Pops out and you can put it in.😂😂😂
Hi Scotty, thanks for the videos! After replacing my front driver side wheel bearing off my 2010 Toyota Rav4, my ABS light comes on after driving 20 miles on the freeway. City driving does not come on. The ABS light comes and goes when driving at a steady speed only. I've replaced the ABS sensor and it still does the same thing. Any ideas or suggestions?
Hi Scott, Both of my 2009 Toyota Matrix rear tires has even wear but the wheels had no play. What would be the problem with the tire wearing inside like the video shown.
scotty i have a 2001 ford excursion and when i turn the 4 wheel drive on the front axles work but after a mile it goes off. im wondering if the hubs are not holding vacuum and the hubs do not turn any more than they are seized. is there a vacuum seal in the hubs. if I just replace the hubs do you think that will fix the problem. or is the vacuum seal the seal behind the axle on the spindle the big round one that has to be pressed the one that might need replaceing?
Scott I was told by a mechanic that my wheel bearing may be bad I had a new one put on but still have play in my wheel can a bad steering knuckle cause the play in the wheel?
hey scotty. im getting a used ar next week. i will be looking for a 2006 or 97 honda civic. im trying to get one for $5000 or a little less. how can i mmake sure this car will last my years?
How did you get the old hub assembly off the knuckle? Or am I just lost. I have a seized-up hub assembly rear wheel on a fwd car so a puller will not fit. I used a slide hammer 🔨 and it did not work. Any suggestions?
Hey scotty, my friend has a 1996 Chevrolet lumina and I got the code P1655 my scanner gives me the codes only. I'd like to know what codes means and if it is a major problem.
Scotty, I replaced my front right hub assembly less than 2 yrs ago and now it's bad again on the same side, what could have caused this to fail so quickly?
Hi Scotty I was wondering how often can you use fuel injector/fuel cleaner in a car?I recently tried some chevron cleaner from auto zone..tho I really want to try some lucas cylinder lubricant and injector cleaner? Thanks for all your good advice.
I have an 03 Explorer that i had to take to the dealer to get the rear bearing replaced on because they need to be pressed or something. Did the front one myself though.
Hi Scotty, I have a 2004 jeep Liberty 4x4 with 80,000 miles. I want to change the ATF to keep it in top shape. Is it ok to add a quart Lucas stop slip as a preventative measure? I'm not having any issue but want to keep it in the best shape possible. Thanks for everything that you do!!!!
Hey Scotty, Names Juice, I have a 02 toyota tundra, it was part of a recall for rusted frame so frame was replaced but the rear drive axle yoke had same rust problem but wasn't part of recall and it's so rusted that the oil is seeping through the metal because it's thin a poures, very slowly, how can I fix it because there hard to find because it was common
Hello Mr.Scotty I have had a hub bearing put on my nissian rough 09 and had to go back a couple of weeks later to have that one replaced now that I have the newer one on it still doing the simmering thing and vibrating under the excel pedel can you please help trouble shoot why this may be happening.. I feel they didnt fix the problem
Scotty Kilmer I had both my front wheel bearings go out on my Cobalt before it hit 40,000 miles. Had then both replaced under warranty. Still no issues at 111,000 miles.
Hi, Scott. I have two questions. 1- I have 02 Explorer 4.0 Liter, has all the driver-side cylinder 120 pounds of compression and the passenger side every 60 pounds of compresión. what could be the problem? 2- I have a Pick Up with Plow and would like to add another battery that has is acid and I want to put it in gel. I could put the two batteries together and no problems?
You hope you can convince your wife to let you? Why would you say that? A self respecting man would never say something like that. As a man, handle your business. Your wife should be grateful that you took charge, did it and saved your family money. You might be surprised how much deep down she desperately wants you to do it and not ask for permission. C’mon man.
Hello Scotty. I need to tighten my rear wheel bearing. The manual says 110nm + 60 degrees. What does that mean ? I have to push the wrench 60 dg more ? It is confussing. Thank you.
Hi Scotty! Great video as always. Question: I replaced my hub assembly but one of the 4 bolts that holds it in was ruined. I bought a replacement bolt from the hardware store and its class 8.8. The other 3 bolts are original manufacturer hardware. Do you think this is safe?
i need your help... i changed my driver wheel bearing with spindle.. because i could hear the noice with a different one from the yunk yard.. but i still hear the noice coming from the driver side... but after seening your video i did what you did.. i had my sister press the gas the noice came from the driver side.. when i looked under the car. the driver tire was not moving at all.. when i looked at the passenger tire it was moving to the sides like the one in your video... sorry its long... both wheels did not have any play up&down or side/side... if you can help me thanks
Torx bolts are used because they can handle much higher torque before stripping than hex bolts. The torx relies on a 15 degree angle vs 60 degrees for hex. It is all in the math.

Do you think a 24 years old lower control arm bushing can be the cause of my wheel bearing wearing out? It keeps having play despite torquing it to specs. The outer bearing is also cutting a groove into the bearing washer. It a 92 Mustang.
Hello Scotty, I know it's off topic from the video, but I have been having some issues with my car lately, and I need some help diagnosing it. I have a 1990 Nissan 300zx n/a The issue is that on some colder mornings, the car will start find but then idle oddly, then once I begin to drive that car, it does next to nothing when I hit the throttle, it kinda bogs down and the rps refuse to go up. In order for me to get the car to 40mph, I have to shift all the way to 4th gear. If I accidentally stall the car while it is doing this, I will need someone to give me a jump, the battery will be dead. The entire time that this is happening though, the anti-lock light will be on, it is only on while this is happening. as well as when I give it gas and it bogs down, my lights and radio power off.. It does not always do it though, some days it will run fine, others it will do this, but the mornings that it does it, I park the car at work around 8:00 a.m. and by the time I get back in it around 4:00 p.m. it has warmed up some outside and the car runs normal again. I have consulted a few people about this, and I have heard anything from a bad Catalytic converter, to a bad alternator that isn't charging the battery enough, thus causing the ECU to not get enough power to run properly. Any help will greatly be appreciated.
Scotty, how do you know if it's NOT a wheel bearing? I have an 07 Santa Fe that has loud road noise, linked to speed. No hideous vibrations or anything, just loud. What are a few troubleshooting steps I can take to properly diagnose my problem if it's bearing or tire related? Thank you!
Aaron Spatz when no one is around and it's making the noise, swerve to the left some, and then to the right. If the noise quiets down going to the left, then the right wheel bearing is worn
Scotty Kilmer Perfect! I did the swerve test, replaced the bearing.... fixed! Thank you very much Scotty for your videos, I look forward to tuning in to your live car talk show.
IF it gets too cold it might not flow good when starting up cold, but really NYC doesn't get that cold, not like Alaska where synthetic oil is best as it blows good under VERY low temps.
dodge ram 03 ..both front ones were replaced as a pair but only right one went bad 730$ and seized in solid.. needed to torch n cut it out n smash it off...ottawa canada salt ..
Hey scotty. What about that tire? I noticed that on one my own. I just replaced bent tie rods and i saw the un even wear. Should i replace it or ride it till it smooths out? I can hear it while i drive.
hi Scotty! how often does Mazda wheel hub bearing last. I got cheaper one replaced today. paid only 45$ each..another one cost 120$ each. is it worth ?
