This video is 10 friggin' years old and still the only good ones out there to learn about measuring windows, etc... Just happened to come across if after checking many many other vids out, which were all crap, but this dude is the most articulate! And Thanks, Vance, for your assistance!
Thank you! My 1950 house is all double hung windows with a slanting bottom sill like the one in the video. Took me hours to find a "How To" for measuring for replacement windows. Now I can go forth with confidence.
Thanks for making this video. I'm a window installer and I get so tired of customers saying "oh you measured the window too small". No! If you make the window the exact same size as the existing window, it's going to be too big! If you want the window insulated and to operate properly minus 1/4" to 1/2" off. I prefer 3/4" to 1" reduction but I order all my windows with stucco flanges on them.
I'd call this the " How to measure and install replacement windows for dummies" like the popular dummie books. I have been replacing my own for many years,this video sharpened my skills and made everything easier for me. Thanks !!!!

I will mirror what others have said, this is a great vid of how to measure for replacement windows and showing the actual parts of a window. A drawing is one thing, seeing the actual part is a whole other thing. Thank you , thank you, than you!
Danny, I must say this was the best video I have see on how to measure for new windows, I have seen some of the so called big name people but didn't even come close to doing what you two did.sometimes just because they have a name. Very good job
Very nice video on demonstrating the correct way to install replacement windows. Correct opening measurement is crucial from stop to stop. Great job explaining the procedure of window replacement for vinyl windows...well done..loved the video

I measured the height and width of that 3 1/4" pocket and went to Home Depot to order a custom set of windows assuming I wasn't replacing some off the shelf size. The HD guy looked it up and said I couldn't get anything smaller than 36 7/8 for a top to bottom measurement. I had 36 3/4. I asked what's a custom build for if they can't build my measurements? Not sure what I'm going to do
Enjoyed the video. very useful as I have same situation with installed storm window. Is there enough move to keep the storm window on? or does it need to come out. I would rather keep the storm window if I can as it may help with road noise.
Hi Danny - good video, I have original builder grade windows, house was built in 1995. The inside of the window does not have any casings for trim, just dry wall butting up to the window. Do I need to remove the drywall for replacement windows
How would you straighten a window jam that was out of square: say both side jams were plum, but the sill and top were out of level by more than an inch?
I have the same twin double hung set up. Would it be possible to remove the divider between the two windows and order a replacement to fill the entire space?
