How to repot a small to Medium sized palm. (Jubaea)

They're tough palms.

The younger roots are quite brittle so not that easy to tease out

@@YorkshireKRIS As potted plants 🪴, were they kept indoors or outdoors?

Bauplunk yes wait until spring if going into I pot but I'm surprised there's a lack of nitrogen in your soil. It's easier to keep a plant healthy in the ground rather than a pot.

Thanks Kris. Its a paradox alright usually potted palms lose nitrogen, but it started off as a very dark green fronded palm, now they're lime green and starting to yellow. It was one of the first I ever planted the soil is very poor around the palm, and the roots probably grew into it. I'll pot it because it's one of the very rounded frond Waggies and looks out of place among the more tropical looking palms!

Hi, I kept all the roots as far as possible. The palm took a year to fully root through the new container.

No it was bought that large and now much larger

I agree my voice was far too quiet on this one. Mainly because I was conscious that my neighbour could here me as he was just over the wall! I will do better in future videos.

Yes, it's a tragedy indeed, that the Jubaea palm, is endangered in its native habitat, because a tree which takes 100 to 150 years to grow to maturity even in a subtropical environment, but then some bastard comes and cuts it down, because as it bleeds to death its lifeblood of sap, some woolly wombat reckons it's a good way to make up some grog on the sly, so they can get blotto on the cheap ! Unfortunately even in Australia and New Zealand, where in most areas the Jubaea palm would grow very very well, these palms are very hard to buy young ones of and very expensive, hence there's hardly any of them around as large adults ! I understand the situation is even worse for the closely related South African native in the Jubaea family as almost every single seed produced in the entire country gets eaten ! A shame this South Africans don't plant even just 1% of the seeds they harvest to grow new palms with. Fortunately the South African, Jubaea related palm has a tendency to sucker at the base, so a limited number of cloned palms, are able to be harvested to help replace dying old palms.
