The steps to rescreen a screen door can be used to rescreen any screen throughout your home.
This is a great skill that every homeowner should have. It will save you a lot of money and allow you to keep your windows and doors looking great.
You will need a couple special tools to do the job, but they are not expensive.

Better than my wife’s German Shepherd who just barreled right through the screen. (Methinks I’m going for the fiberglass screen replacement. 😅) I hope your husband helped once he cooled down. Animals can be unpredictable sometimes.

@@thewiirocks our cat did this to chase a neighborhood cat. And our Husky pushed the screen on a window out and tried to jump out because he dropped his toy outside through the screen hole lol

Thanks very much for this video. I was going to pay to have someone come in and fix my back door screen that my dog blew through last year. This video gave me the confidence to do it myself! Incidentally, the kit I picked up included the spline and spline roller along with the screen material. Cost involved: $21 (tax included).

Thank you! As a non-DIY guy, this gave me confidence to give it a go, and it worked a treat. Used a stainless steel screen as we're bushfire-prone. A pain to trim! Important to use a fresh sharp blade on the Stanley knife. Also I left the door handle on, which meant I only had half an inch over on that side. Turned out perfect though, didn't have to trim that side.

This was actually very simple to do. Hardest part was measuring and leaving enough space. If I can do this....pretty much anyone can do it. It looked great! I think the entire repair cost me under $10.00! Had I known this, I would have done it long ago!

I've done a bunch of these but I've always wondered what is the other side of the tool for. I guess I could had looked it up but I've never had a need for it so guess it doesn't really matter. I've never done this for myself so I've always replaced the spine but I'm glad I don't have to lol. I moved into a new house and the screen on the front door was in the bottom instead of the top and the previous owners had a couple dogs that messed it up. Anyway I got dogs also so I out the screen at the top like it should be but can anyone answer me why would the screen be at the bottom? It seems just as easy to slide the window up as it does down and either way to close it you still have to slide it up. Was this a mistake or just some people prefer it that way?

Great video! I really appreciate the zoom-in details of each process. Just one comment: if you have a old door (like mine), it takes quite a long of pressure to insert the new spline. You might want to add that in your video, basically starting at 3.00, which seems quite easy in your door. Thank you.

Great video. I was able to do it just now, the first time, and it looks good. Mine isn't perfect as I could have gotten the sides a bit tighter but it'll do. *My spline shattered into about 500 pieces as it was most likely as old as the door (30+ years)! I bought several sizes of spline and picked what fit tight but not too tight. I'll take the others back for a refund.

The roller keeps cutting the screen as im rolling in the spline. Ive tried several times and it keeps happening. What am i doing wrong?

Hi, how is the spline size? Is it large enough to hold the screen and support the roller so it doesn't cut into the screen? You can angle the roller slightly to the outside to help prevent too much pressure on the screen. If you have a roller with 2 sizes, try the smaller size.

I replaced my screen but now the wood frame around the screen door is slightly warped and the door will not lock. Did I put the screen in too tight?

Hi, yes, in some frames you can pull it too tight. I would pull out the spline and try again. You can also rescreen on a table and use a couple clamps to hold the frame in shape.

Hi, most hardware stores should carry a variety, if they don't have it, they should be able to order it for you. Prime Line is a big vendor that you can order from online.

Hi its a full door storm door. It looks like it was punch holed into aluminum, in the corners. There are no visible screws or rivets. I think the only way to straighten the rubber, which is coming out past the glass, is to drill holes into those impressions to fix it, then put rivets or screws into the corners. Or maybe vise press the lowered impressions. Yes its a single pane but thick... Yes, duct tape and a hammer is a good place to start with most projects.
