How to RESET the Service Indicator Light on a 2012 Mercedes Benz C Class W204 (and other models)

Hi, this video shows you how to reset the service light on a 2012 Mercedes Benz C Class W204 when you complete your own servicing, It will also work on most other Mercedes models with the 12 button steering wheel.

Towards the end of the video it shows common mistakes and expels the common myths you read about online about the process of resetting the service indicator.

Thank you for this! My usual garage did the MOT on my 2011 C-class, but as I'd only done 2,000 miles in the year I didn't want the service. They didn't know how to reset it and it's been driving me nuts for 3-months. You've made it so clear, and with the 'common mistakes' bit it's the most helpful video I think I've ever seen. Excellent. Thanks. I had done this some years ago on my ML350, and then more recently I could just not get it into the menu. Now, I see what could have gone wrong. The error analysis is very good.

Thank you so much, after many trials on my 2013 GLK 350, I watched your video, and the mistake was pressing the call button and the ok button too far apart. Thanks for that observation. It worked on my car. I got the reset once I followed your instructions.

Worked for me on my W246 B class. The car has covered 9780 miles from new, Mercedes main dealer quoted £880 ! to service the car....genuine parts cost me £33. This car is so quick and easy to service, so saved myself a cool £850. Thanks Vince.

Excellent and concise information that actually accomplishes the mission! I tried some other methods listed through the internet to reset the irritating 2012 C250 "B9" service reminder (which had already been done by a competent garage), but none of them worked. By the way, lad, you remind me of a friend of my wife (she's English) and mine who lives outside of London - so you also inspired us to visit our friends there in 2023! Cheers and all the best!

I agree Ronnie. Love my C Class......same model as well. I'm loving the tips provided by people like "my mate vince" Thank you. I just need to find a video that covers the oil change and the tool needed. Dealers are a rip off just for a basic service.

I went through 2 other darned videos that said hold both buttons down simultaneously, with obvious very frustrating failures. Its terrible when you follow instructions with bad results. Yours was the only one to explain the fraction of a second delay...I couldn't believe it when I saw the proper screen come up! Felt like a miracle! Thank you so much....old American saying" The devil is in the details"!

Thank you so much for this video. My son did the service on my car and when I took my car to go get the service notification off they were going to charge me $75. I'm not opposed to paying for anything that needs to be fixed but charging me $75 for something that literally took me less than 5 minutes to do. Thank you yet again 😊.

Great Video, clear and correct for my 2014 E 220 - I just had it serviced at a local garage who could not reset the computer ( I may not be going there again ). They decided that because it had a few hundred miles left on it I would have to wait till they run down before I could re-set the computer. I knew that could not be correct. Thanks for the tips.

On a C180 (2010 model), this works fine but you have to hit the left button and highlight the TRIP option then follow the above instructions. Great vid :)

It is a great video and gets straight to the point on resetting the service indicator.....however, for those of us with W204's built for sale in the US, you DO have to have the driver's door closed or the procedure will not work. Tried and tested several times with door closed and open, 100% success/failure rate respectively

Perfect. Thank you. The millisecond wait between pressing Phone and OK is crucial as you said. I watched another vid before this one and the fella didn't mention the millisecond wait. I was waiting too long (1/2 sec?) and kept getting the ODO reset question. It was driving me nuts. You fixed that!

I tried the other videos and I always come up with "Reset odometer" and I was really getting frustrated. This video explained it very well. That split second between the "call button" and the "OK" button made the difference. It worked and I was able to reset the service indicator light. Thank you very much.

Good job showing the pitfalls. BTW, some models (like my 350 BT 2012) require the driver door to be shut otherwise it complains about the door being open. Thank you so much.
