Question: If I want to save an image that has an original size of 10x10” at a really high ppi/dpi so that it can be enlarged to different sizes by a reproduction company who prints my art, should I click the width and height to say pixels so that it allows them to choose the size on their end? They often print my art much much larger than the original. Like a 10x10 they’ll print at 36x36 or 40x40. Thanks so much for such a clearly explained tutorial on image sizing. So appreciated!!
@goldcoastprints
@goldcoastprints 2 года назад
Hey. Glad you enjoyed the tutorial. I think the best thing to do would be to create an individual print ready file at 300dpi specifically for each size. (1 file for 36 x 36, 1 file for 40 x 40 etc.) just so they're all consistent.
@claverton
@claverton Год назад
Great vid thankyou. You deal with enlarging an image size, but when reducing the size of an image which resizing option do you recommend? In my photoshop the alternatives appear to be "automatic" or "bicubic sharper" for reducing image size. Which one?

Hey learned a lot quick question when I did a 20x30 print it came out great but when I tried to to a 11x16 and I punched the height in the second number didn’t automatically change to the width I needed how to I go about this ?
@t.lyndon.massey5252
@t.lyndon.massey5252 Год назад
The most common ratio a photo/camera will take is 2:3 (20x30) if you're wanting to do a custom size that's different to your image ratio, you'll need to either crop (cut some of your image to suit the size you want) or add negative white space to it by entering a custom canvas size.

@goldcoastprints
@goldcoastprints 2 года назад
Hey Saud, You should Always try to edit and export from your original file as this is where the maximum amount of picture/file detail is. If you enlarge an Instagram file or compressed smaller version than the original it will not print as well. Hope this helps let me know.

Is this a good general size for sending to clients for print. Especially when I dont know what size they will be printing.
@goldcoastprints
@goldcoastprints 2 года назад
Best to share your image with clients at its native size. (The size/resolution it comes from the camera). Unless you know exact size they'd like to print, then this resizing method is fine to achieve their desired size. Provided it is a quality image.

@goldcoastprints
@goldcoastprints 2 года назад
Assuming normal settings there's 96 pixels per 1inch. However, I'd still highly recommend editing with a full size computer monitor if you're printing to ensure best results. Best of luck Brad hope this helps.

if im working at 1/10 scale. does that mean i need to use 3500 dpi. or does that scale adjust for that as well?
@goldcoastprints
@goldcoastprints 11 месяцев назад
I don't think I understand your question. In any case, the dpi setting for export remains the same for all print sizes, whether it is 12 x 18inch or 40 x 60inch (300dpi/350dpi is sufficient). No need to change it to 3500dpi. Please let me know if that makes sense.

It sounds like your best option would be to resample/enlarge to the width of your banner in it's native aspect ratio then create a custom crop to suit your desired finished height size if that makes sense.

@goldcoastprints
@goldcoastprints 2 года назад
Depends what you're printing and with what machine/press you're using. For photo's to most labs RGB is sufficient. If you're doing many copies of something with a printing press company on a bulk run these machines mostly operate on CMYK. However...it depends.
@michaellizut8532

Any reason why you save/export as a jpeg, and not a tiff file?
@goldcoastprints
@goldcoastprints 2 года назад
In short, Most print labs only accept high quality Jpeg files. Some will take various different formats. However, keeping your raw/tiff/DNG original is always recommended as that is where maximum detail is. But if it's 'print ready' and there's no more defects, highest quality Jpeg export is sufficient and preferred by most print labs and systems mostly for storage/ease of use/transfer purposes.

You should be able to select it from a drop down list 'save as file type' - then towards the bottom of the list of various file types there should be jpeg. If it's not coming up I'm sorry I'm not sure maybe enquire with Adobe/Photoshop help.

Hello, I'm looking to sell my photos on Etsy. I'm not going to be printing out the prints, Etsy works with a 3rd party that does the printing. So I'm wondering, how should I save my pictures for the website? Because I know people will want all different sizes. Thank you.
@goldcoastprints
@goldcoastprints 10 месяцев назад
In this circumstance everything comes down to who Etsy's print partner is. I just started selling my own shots (tropicalbeachprints) on Etsy as digital downloads as black and whites, not knowing how people will print them I found that a safe option. For more detailed colour prints, here at Gold coast prints, we resample (size) and optimize (ICC colour profile) for each specific size/paper situation.

I feel kinda screwed. I don't use Adobe Photoshop for my design work. Picsart is my main tool for graphic design and unfortunately, you can't adjust the DPI on that app. And it would make the quality any better if you first create a new document set on 300 dpi then import the image file from picsart. Damn 🤦🏻
@goldcoastprints

It's an unfortunate situation you're in. I completely understand your frustrations as I've been in that same position. Unfortunately adobe has monopoly at the moment but surely it's only a matter of time before there's some reliable competition. The pricing is quite expensive.

You're correct PDF is also a good option to save the image in. This is mostly just a basic guide for resampling size and as long as it is exported from photoshop as a 'high quality' (maximum quality 12 setting) jpeg it is more than suitable for print. One of the biggest issues in file exports is photographers overlooking Lightrooms default export DPI of 72dpi. This is no where near enough for print. Anyways you're right pdf a viable solution as an image file. Many others as well. Have a great day ☺️
