Did I mention I love my OG Audioquest Nighthawks?
Review:
OG Nighthawk: • The OG - Nighthawk Rev...
Too bad they came to me all beat up, scuzzy, and sad.
In this video, I take you through my process to restore them back to their former glory. Here’s a list of some of the things I did in the process:
-Clean the pads
-Clean and treat the headband
-Tighten up the elastic in the headband
-Sew new material to the bottom of of the headband
-Polish / clean the cups
The video is a little long, but you can skip around, and if you don’t have interest in restoring a set of headphones right now, just remember this exists and come back to it when you need. Now, this is all done on the Nighthawks, but it could be applied to other headphones with similar properties.
The idea is that you might be able to pick up a set of headphones that are a bit beat up for a cheap price and can nurse them back to health.
If you’re looking for used headphones, here are some sites to check out if you want to buy used and a link to a video where Sine Craft and I discuss how to buy used:

These are really great headphones and were quite pricey when they first came out. I own a pair of the Nighthawk Carbons and can probably count on my hands the number of times I've used them. Unfortunately I have the same problem with the lower surface of the headband, they are delaminating or something and it's quite frustrating considering the amount of times I've used them and the price I paid for them.

A bit of a longshot if you'd see this but do you know of a way to replace the elastic headband itself? I recently won a lot auction and it included these headphone but they are missing the elastic headband itself. I've been searching around for replacements but no dice. I have an idea on what I can do but I wanna cover all my bases and ask for suggestions first,

Sorry its a bit irrelevant with the video, but would u recommend ath m40x or akg k371 for a warm sound with just a bit of bass. Ty in advance!!!

Still considering your question. I wouldn’t describe either of those as particularly warm. Based on memory, the m40x would be bassier, but I wasn’t particularly fond of them. The 371 are pretty decent for the money. Do you need closed back? Definitely raises recommendations if you go open.

@@MrAyrit i dont really like open back. If you arent really fond of them two, i would like some other suggestions, even in the 130$ price range if they are really worth it🔥🔥

@@God-sw8xy How will you be driving them? The Sony XM3 would be a solid choice. The stock sound signature is extremely bassy, but it’s meant to be eqed. I have the Sivga sv021, and I think they fit your requests pretty well, but I’m not sure I love them-I don’t really have a closed back that I love though… unfortunately. Probably my best all around is the Beyerdynamic MMX 300, but they aren’t a warm headphone.

Yes, these are great headphones. I had the Hawks of the very first revision. I sold them, then very sorry. But I recently bought a NightOwl in new condition for $200. I am also very pleased with them.

Glad to see someone else putting in some time and effort into keeping these bad boys going haha! Had the little leather & plastic loops that hold the headband onto the frame completely come apart on my left side. So I twisted together some speaker wire, cut two holes in the leather strap near the frame, then ran the speaker wire through, & made two loops, then used a strip of duct tape to hold them securely after I twisted them a bit tighter. Good as new lol. Probably need some new pads here soon tho.

LOL Timing is everything. My Audioquest Nighthawk has an issue. Any ideas how to fix repair one of the rubber suspension teeth that has broken and not found? Any ideas on something that could be super glued? Rubber band is too flexible!
@MrAyrit

I had one of those break on me. Audio quest does still replace those, but it costs about $50. I was going to try super glue or a silicone.
