I'm glad you found your knife. I was bummed for you when I heard you lost it. Your video is why I got involved with ordering the next generation version, or donation for Evans. Thanks for the heads up, can't wait til I get mine. Really cool you found it, and great video about restoring it. Keep it up, you rock.
+cutlerylover I know this is an older video and apologies if you have a video specifically on the subject, but what kind of knife is that? I've been looking for a good neck knife and that seems perfect
I put the blade edge on the table so I cant get cut kinda at a 45 degree angle. I can use a lot more pressure that way. Good to see s35 handle the weather so well. Thx for the video
just watching this..... the Tuf Glide....thos it work well for the pivets in all folding knifes? To make the flipping action get better? thx for your great videos kind regards
you can get a "Tooth brush" with brass bristles at your local hardware store for about a buck. They work nice for cleaning knurling or those little holes on the back of your blade. Since its brass, it won't scratch
What is the best way to tackle pitting rust? I would like to do some knife restoration on a pretty old knife but it's been through a lot - not sure it's restorable. However, it would be a fun experiment. Just want to know the best way to get at it.
Hey Jeff, Now you've got your companion back, I'd love to see a short video of the making of the paracord lanyards so I can carry mine the same way. Thanks!
forgive me if this is a noob question, I am still somewhat new at being serious about the blade collecting, but if the jimping goes all the way across the spine could you use floss or floss picks to clean rust out of it..?
I used the knife eraser only on my knives, and it worked pretty well. You have to be careful to erase with the grain of the metal. It will scratch, and ruin satin finishes. I only used it with older knives.
I saw a video a while back on using distilled white vinegar to remove rust from metal. In the video it worked quite well, but I was wondering if you had any expertise on the subject?
you may have already answered this, ive seen that the companions are not out for production and was wondering when they would be and how much do they cost?
I have a... dagger or stiletto (approx 3-4in long, half in. wide, double edge blade) and on both sides of the blade (between the two edges obviously) it has a sort of ornate engraving (for lack of a better description) and was wondering how well that eraser would work for rust on that blade. There's some on the edge itself(it's a little, and there's not much of an edge to begin with) but there's some with the... engraving(? where the blade was cut so there's a raised design) and am not sure how well it would do, not quite because of depth(as in the case of the thumb jimping(sp?) of your neck knife) but in case the eraser is too abrasive maybe
Wow. I didn't realize that was Gus snoring, went around the whole house looking for the source of the sound, and then you said it in the video :D Nice video, will use it if I ever lose my blades on the side of the road :^)
Nice Job Jeff . Can You buy the erasers by them selves . I need one forsure . Are you going to pull the slabs just to make sure there is no rust , Gerry
+krazy45cat Found the erasers with your link picked up 2 for free including free shipping with some points I had . Thanks again Jeff . This proves that my point of you-tube that I learn something new everyday on the tube . Your roving cub reporter , Krazy45cat . Aka Gerry Keefe on face book :)))
i was about to comment about the knife safety when you cleaned it. I'm glad you noticed we wouldn't want you to cut yourself :) That might impede your videos
you could also soak it in tomato paste for an hour then use scotch brite and finish up by grinding it against a brick and you can rub 3-in-1 oil every 2 months
Hey jeff, i have an old school Australian military combat knife from the vietnam war and i wanted your opinion on wether i should clean and sharpen it up or leave the grit and blood on it to preserve it's memories of war
also I wanted to know if you could do a knife review on the Kizer cutlery brand. I have one of their knives and they are really good quality for the money thanks
I been asking that for years. He said he was when he and Christina first got together, but he never did. DAMN IT JEFF KEEP UR WORD. Ha ha jk man. I know it's sometimes hard to get out there but come on man. We askin bro. Get on out there man and record ALOT OF IT
why do you sharpen that way I have never seen anyone do that I was told imagine that you are shaving off a tiny sliver of the sharpener or stone with each slice and if its a natural stone it should be wet spit will work or oil but thus the word whetstone, nice video. I like the eraser thing never saw one of those before.
s35vn is stainless steel therefore you can us acidic bath to clean corrosion. - the easiest way to do it is to mix 10% citric acid with 10% acetic acid (vinegar). It is also best way to clean all Your home stainless things. kitchen sink for example. :)
we have rubbers in the UK where one side is normal white use for rubbing out pencil and the other side it blue thats suppose to rub out pen but it just rips holes in paper i bet those could do the same as that rubber youve got for taking off rust
Those are engineering rubbers, the white is for pencil on paper you're correct but the other end (more frequently red brick colour) is for rubbing out pencil on wood.
That edge is no where near where it was when you got it. That would drive me crazy. I'd have to put a whole new edge on it after that, plus I might have polished it.
Super off topic, but can someone suggest a cheap but good Balisong knife, I wouldn't care if it was a knockoff as long as it works. You see, my family doesn't have a lot of money to spare, and I've really wanted one for a while, but I never really bother to see if I could even own one yet. I recently updated myself with the knife laws in my area and was thinking of buying a trainer and a regular, you know display the real one till I can work it.
***** yeah I know, but it was a golden opportunity so I took it. I love me some unfunny jokes lol, I'm not trying to go full on grammar nazi here, just pokin fun bubbuh :)
