Any who's drive dissapeared after typing "clean", i had to go to computer management > drives > initialise drive (the one you just cleaned) > add new volume. violaa, hope this helps someone too :D

not sure what went wrong. I have a windows 8 64bit system. My seagate 500 gb drive was showing only 32gb so i followed everything and it all worked except the drive disappeared after. I tried to follow your pinned comment and something seems different. In computer management i see "storage" not disk and under that i see both my disk 0 which is my hard drive where my OS is installed and then i see below disk 1 which looks like my storage drive that i just cleaned. Now they are BOTH blue so if i right click the storage drive that i need to initialized all i get is "format, properties, shrink volume etc" nothing about initialize. HELP!!!!! I can't access this drive any more!!!! HELLLLLLLPPPP :(

I have used this video so many times. I love how it just gets right to the point and just works. No loud song playing the entire time. No 10 minute intro asking for likes and to subscribe. No useless or wrong information. And he isn't using some horribly out of date version of Windows where none of these steps would work on modern systems. This is exactly how windows tutorial videos should be.

Too funny! I especially "love" the videos that start the way you said, then they tell you what the video is NOT about, then they tell you what it IS about, then you get a description of everything they did wrong that finally led them to the solution they're about to tell you. Then they mumble and talk too fast when they DO finally tell you the steps that work. Then when you try what they said, it doesn't work anyway....hehehe. AHHHH!!!

Process : run --> 'diskpart' --> 'list disk' --> 'select' + ' ' + Disk Number e.g. ' Disk 2' --> 'clean' --> 'create partition primary '. Done :-)

I do because I'm formatting PCs often and sometimes after creating a bootable flash drive windows wont recognize the flash drive if I wanna use it for transferring files from one PC to another, formatting it through cmd always solves it lol

I too thought I lost my capacity for a new USB 128GB /119GB(usable) down to 31.9GB. For whatever, I formatted the drive to NTFS losing valuable capacity! I followed your vid and got it back...Yeah!!! THANK YOU SOooo MUCH, great video Just what I was looking for :)

Thank you! To those who's file explorer doesn't recognize the drive, as was the case with mine, you'll need to initialize it in Disk Management. Type in Computer Management in start and you should be able to find Disk Management in the window that pops up. From there, you may need to delete the volume on the drive, right click on it, and create a new simple volume. This assigns an actual drive letter to the storage. Worked for me.

You can do abbreviations : CMD(Admin mode) Diskpart lis dis sel dis X clean cre par pri format fs=ntfs quick assign(driveletter is auto assigned) exit exit No need to go through windows' GUI to make the format

I found a much quicker option, which I believe is the same thing he is doing, but is a little easier for people that are scared to open up that window. Right click your drive, click on format, then click restore device defaults. That will clear the drive and make it usable again, hopefully this helped some people.

That just means you have to initialize it now and then it’ll be back to normal in order to initialize that you have to go into computer management to do that once you initialize it it’ll show back up like normal and you can format it so initialize it first then format it then you’re all hundred percent good to go

Thanks man, that worked perfectly for me! One note: when I went to "start" and typed cmd to get the command prompt, I had to right-click and Run as Administrator, 'cause I got "Access denied" the first time when I tried to "clean" the drive. Edit: I see now that you addressed the administrator thing in a reply to someone else who encountered this already :)

After doing this my external hard drive no longer shows up on the 'This PC' list. I have tried plugging it in and out, I have restarted my PC. It is still listed when I run the list disk command. Any ideas?

you probably just need to initialize that drive now so it shows back up. I haven't made a video on that yet so search for how to initialize a hard drive under windows computer management, if you cannot find anything then let me know I can make a video for you

Man you're a God send. The issue I had from trying to reclaim a USB pen drive (Linux Mint ISO installer) used on my old computer system hardware to my new system on Windows worked like a charm with YOUR step-by-step video. Now to reinstall Linux on my new system via external SSD drive. SUBBED🔥

i dont' know where you learned to it exactly this way but i don't really care because it helped me. it still works on windows 10 after 6 years. I actually expected the formatting process to take a while but it took like 2 seconds. Thanks a lot!
