How to Reuse Stock Weighted Bar Ends with 7/8 CRG Style Mirrors

If you experience vibration with your 7/8 "crg" style motorcycle bar end mirrors, here is a cheap $1 fix. All you need is a set of nylon washers available at the hardware store. You may not need to buy any mirror adapters at all.

Well done sir! I actually found metal washers from Lowe's that worked with this method. The bar ends that come with the kit also never stay secure and strip easily. The throttle side is a pain to set up with the ends that come with the kit. I had to drill mine out to go back to this method. Thanks for sharing.

I used a pipe cutting tool to cut the ends of some bicycle bars i had laying around. use as spacers. Works like a charm!

I like this idea too. All i did to mine though is hack off some of the grip ends on both sides and they mounted right up on the og bar ends without any sticky throttle issues.

Just another tip: I used a 1/2” PVC Schedule 40 Pipe cut at 3/8 length. Works like a charm.

@@emanlociousify Ok so I made a PVC spacer appropriate size but I can't seem to get the throttle side NOT to stick? I can't tight the bar end without it completely sticking the throttle. How did u do it?

@@jonathanfrancisco6910 I actually purchased the ProTaper Carmichael Contour handlebars and they are a 1/2 inch longer on each end so I just added the mirrors to the end of the new bars :)

Nice video. Question, When you went ahead and did the the Throttle side, did you feel you needed to make the spacers wider to give you enough a throttle movement or did you use the same thickness as the clutch side as in the video? Thanks

Update, I found some copper sealing washers with the dimensions required and used enough of them to create the correct gap.

Nice one bought same mirrors for my mt07 but they came with a black rubber insert that doesnt fit a an internal thread this solves my prob cheers!

Nice mod! I wish my CBR250R's bar ends were that kind of design. I had to do a lot of custom work to make a bar end mirror fit. Also I would highly suggest Locktiteing the bar end in.

I recently installed a phone mount for my mt-07. It worked fine for a few days, however yesterday I installed CRG style mirrors without using the stock bar end weights. Today I went for a ride for about 4-5 hours, and afterwards my iPhone rear camera keeps shaking, do u think not using the bar end weights caused this?

I just can't get my throttle side not to stick. Even with a gap on the outside it still sticks. I think when I tighten it down the PVC bends causing it to stick

You have to make sure that the throttle moves freely when doing this. Make sure there is no binding on the throttle side.

I did a similar mod with my bike. When riding, my hands get get tingly. Could this be caused by the bar end not going in tight enough? Have you experienced anything similar?

The bar end weights don't fully go inside the bar now. Isn't that a problem? Won't the constant vibration losen it and eventually make the whole setup fall out on the road one day?

This is kind of the idea I had for putting similar bar ends on my Bolt C-Spec. The only difference is that my weights have their own machine screw that goes through and holds them, so I was going to replace them with a longer one to make up for the lost threading length, then instead of the nylon washers I was going to wrap the screw up with electrical tap to the same thickness of the weight stem.

Take the bar end off and play around with the parts bin at the hardware shop. I tried electrical and 3m tape but it just doesnt hold.

I've managed to successfully install them using the tape, but I'm experiencing some noticeably increased handlebar vibration, particular on the highway. They'll work for now but I might have to look into a heavier and more permanent solution. Does your vibration seem to be as good as stock with those washers?

He said do the same but if it sticks make the spacers a bit smaller by sanding the outside edge until the throttle moves and returns freely.

Wonder if you could instead use some slices off old 7/8 hadlebars? I have an MT-10 with maybe identical bar end weights ....I was actually considering turning down a section to the right diameter except I dont own a lathe....then I read where a guy hand gound a channel by EYE! That is too caveman even for me lol so I am thinking of chucking the weights in drill press as poor mans lathe and then use counter roating grinder to create close to 1/8" deep channel for bar end mirror clamps? anyone brave enough to try this? worse case you buy inew weights

Obviously the PREMIUM fix is to take your bar end weights to a machinist and have them chucked in a lathe and turn down a section to precise 7/8"? Precise width and it will look factory install eaisly and be perfect....guessing $30 to $50 bucks? OR take to a junior college machine shop class and pay a student $20 to knock em out as a class project....hope they dont mess it up lol

I did this but without the washers. Instead I coated the weighted bolts with blue loctite, got them to where they need to be and left it to dry for 24 hours.

Alexei Tikhonenko how difficult to unscrew after drying if you ever needed to remove them for whatever reason ? Did it ever come loose after using blue loctite only ? Thanks
