Proper watering goes a long way my friends. Deep and infrequent has helped the lawn out more than last years watering every day.

Ive been watering very consistently throughout the spring and early summer, and my lawn is still looking like "meh". Been following a solid plan, regular fert, pre emergent, post emergent, fungicide, grub killer, humic acid... Im in the first season since a partial reno last fall, but still. This is the most I've ever put into my lawn, and I am still waiting for it really start banging.

Use those exact same sprinklers for my boulevard/parkway from Menards. Super simple design and cheap to get a handful to put in a series. I can run 4 in a single row if I want but usually stick with 3 for my narrow sections. I do recommend bringing an old screwdriver with you or something else stronger to start a hole since the spikes are plastic and can snap if the ground is really dry and hard.

Thanks, man. I just learned something new. I didn't realize it was good to let the lawn stress like that. I will definitely add this to my lawn care arsenal.
@seanmclaughlin7415
@seanmclaughlin7415 3 года назад
I know you disagreed with me in the past about this subject, but about 5 weeks in to drought, you need to provide water at this time. Yes, stress is needed. It "weeds" out the weak grass, and whatever survives the stress is the the grass you want to stay. You can add seed to compensate. But there is a threshold for water timing and that threshold is about 5 weeks without water. At this time you probably should provide some.

I like to do one watering a week no matter the conditions. The lawn struggles for a day or two but it always jumps right back with that one deep watering in mid summer.

Yo Jake! Another good tip, is to rinse (NOT full water) but only RINSE the morning dew into the lawn every morning. That dew is just as healthy as rain water and should be rinsed into the soil before the heat of the day evaporates it. That technique is pure gold during times of drought. 😁👍 A quick spray is all it takes. ONLY during times of drought, though. If the lawn is getting plenty of rain and/ or irrigation, then disregard this message.

lol if I water every 3 days my lawn will be pure brown in the summer. Maybe it's because the base under the lawn is rocks, construction debris, and crap dirt. Gotta love tract home contractors. That's with a full irrigation system computer controlled. Should I try every two or three days but water twice as long?

Hi! I am watering with a hose.. Roughly how long should I water it for every 3 days please?
@JakeTheLawnKid
@JakeTheLawnKid 2 года назад
Great question! It's different for everyone depending on variables such as the sprinkler using and how many gallons per minute your hose puts out. As I mentioned in the video, place a tuna can or rain gauge in the middle of your sprinkler stream and see how long it takes to get it to the half inch mark. You're going to run it long enough to get a half inch each time three times a week.
@amandastringfellow1716
@amandastringfellow1716 2 года назад
Thanks! If it took 15 mins to fill the tuna can, I guess I would have to water 1 lawn section for 15 mins and then move onto the next and do another 15 mins?

Applying Biostimulants such as RGS in very hot temps hasn’t produced good results for me. The RGS stains the grass blades and makes the lawn appear even worse. Maybe it works in the long run but I advise against putting down Biostimulants in very hot weather.
@JakeTheLawnKid
@JakeTheLawnKid 3 года назад
I recommend folks who are considering the biostimulant and hot temperatures to spray it in the evening and watered in for 10 minutes if applicable. Otherwise I wouldn't apply anything to the lawn. Also RGS does have a heat restriction you do not want to spray when temperatures are above 80°. So evenings are ideal.

Hey Jake, Hope you don’t mind another question. We are expecting a lot of rain here in the northeast come Thursday and Friday. Can I apply an application of Milorganite in combination with another fertilizer? I’m waiting on delivery of Yard Mastery Stress Blend with high potassium to help with potassium deficiency but it won’t be here til 13th. Would like to green up my lawn and thought applying Milorganite will jump start that as well and get it watered in. Thanks again for all your input. Much appreciated.

Great video Jake! I’m having a serious issue with my lawn. Notice my lawn pulling up easily and many brown spots. I thought it was from overwatering but found out my root system is weak possibly due to over applying my pre-emergent/ fertilizer in early spring. I believe I measured the square footage of my lawn wrong and applied at a heavier rate. Is my lawn a lost cause this season or is there away to strengthen my root system? I have a combo of KBG/annual rye/ red fescue.
