I went mountain biking once and a 73-5 year old caught up to me. We chatted and then together we bombed down a hill which I’d never been down before. He had the biggest balls. I said to myself I’d be a lucky man if I can continue mountain biking at his age. Similarly I’ve just bought an EUC. You’re also another inspiration. Hopefully I too will be fit and able enough to do all these activities.

I agree about the wall being a crutch. I didn’t use it much when initially learning. Now it’s been about 1.5 years but I’m coming from the Segway i2, so some of that muscle memory is applicable. I still need some practice turning. Your turns are sick! 🔥

I used the hallway in my home to get used to standing on the wheel. I would put put my palms on the walls on each side of me, then alternately applied pressure between the ball of my feet, and heels, I would rock the wheel back and forth like a pendulum. This helped me get a feel for standing on the wheel so when I got to the point where I would put my second foot on the wheel I didn't freak out as much. It also helped me in leaning forward and backward for starting and stopping.

I'm a novice rider. I've have done a few miles tops. I started in the kitchen hanging onto the cooker and backs of chairs. I managed to ride my NineBot One E+ the 21ft length of the kitchen eventually. Playing skittles with the chairs and furniture. On that point I have covered my wheel in 3M bumper foam - available from eBay, I think its intended to protect furniture. Outside I hung onto something, mounted, then set off along my drive - definite tendency to turn left. I would recommend being on a good surface here. Then into the Cul-de-Sac. Get on hanging onto the fence and set off down the road. Doing 150yd trips now. Practice back at home on mounting - something I still find difficult. Off to the park riding around the local boating lake, anticlockwise because I can manage the left turns. Off to the park riding around the local boating lake, clockwise more difficult right turns. I can ride straight now (concentrating), but time to improve those turns, back to the cul-de-sac weaving left and right of the center line as I go. I guess that's where I'm at. What I have learnt, wear the safety gear because you will fall off a lot. Check that tyre pressure relentlessly, road surface, wind, gradient, makes a lot of difference. Patience is necessary its going to take many hours of practice to beat this thing, I've found what I can do one day has to be re learnt in the first few minutes of the next day - bummer. The whole thing is tiring so I have only been on this thing 30mins to 1hr at a time. It makes my shins ache especially all that mounting practice. Finally you have to be calm and confident to respond appropriately, too fast (scary and you stiffen up) or too slow (same as too slow on a cycle) will have you off. Final words ensure you are having a good time learning - I don't think I would have the strength of character to persist with this, if it wasn't fun.

I would love to see an update from you, 4 months later how's it lookin'? I'm on day 2 with my wheel, and although I made progress (mount using my car and I can cross a parking lot SHAKILY lol). But mounting and dismounting feels insanely difficult. I'm glad I was in an empty parking lot, cause I was cussing up a storm today hahaha. I can also only ride for like 30 mins or an hour before I feel like I swam a couple miles lolol. I'd imagine it's because I keep toppling my wheel, and then I have to right it and all that. They're heavy!!

Excellent tutorial , I bought the KingSong16X amazing wheel, I tried to ride a Mxs I think & when I was about to do the turn I fell down & kissed the ground. I sprained my elbow & I was not able to grab & handle the weight on my Ks16x as it weights 50lbs. Unfortunately I sold it. Now I'm trying to get a lighter wheel but I'm undecided between the IVf8 or the Ks D14 the both around 30lbs , The IVf I thing is two pounds more. Your turning skills are excellent & easy to learn. Thank you so much for taking your precious time to guide us. Your help is so much appreciated🥰🥰

For me I ended up finding an empty soccer field and used the goal post as a launch point. After 40 minutes I was toast but learned to start, stop, and go a few hundred meters. Got home, drank a few beers while grilling, hopped back on between flipping the meats, and was riding laps around the block. I think the learning on grass (in my case very bumpy grass) protected the wheel and sped up the learning process. I got the v12 ht for my 40th birthday... I'm highly impressed with it! Still working on those tight smooth turns though! You make it look easy.

I received my S16 today and was riding it around the block within 30 minutes. That half moon thing and the big one foot steps was all it took. Thank you!!! I did have to tape some extra foam padding on each side of the wheel to ease the pain of the wheel pressing against my leg with so much pressure at the beginning. Sore ankles right now, but worth it.

Your videos are great. I learned to ride the wheel a bit differently, most importantly I skipped the step where I learned to glide on my dominant foot. I just learned to sort of hop on. The problem with "my" approach is that early on, I could not adjust my position on the pedals in case I didn't hop on exactly right. This means a lot of extra fatigue in the legs. Anyways, keep up the good work! 😊✌

I first watched this video like months ago when I first started learning about EUCs. I just came back cause I got my first wheel yesterday, the 18XL. I'm having a ridiculously hard time mounting and dismounting. Feels like when I dismount my wheel spins out, and when I mount my wheel is mega wobbly. After rewatching the video, I need to practice the step where you ride like a couple feet on one foot. I forgot you recommended that, I think it'll help a lootttttttt. I managed to cross a parking lot like 3 times today, it's so exhilarating, I can't wait till I can make it look easy lol
@evXNYC

when you mount, makesure to tilt the wheel inward towards the center of your stance, and slightly back towards your body. Think of it like an NFL player huggung a football he just caught and itrushing towards the end zone. Then once you're up, let the wheel find it's natural upright position. Hope that helps.

Nice video, especially the calm and relaxed approach which seemed to feed of the quiet suburb vibe of they area you were filming in. Every tutorial I've watched has a few things that I think are essential for understanding the physics of an EUC, but I also saw an regular skateboard tutorial once that had similar advice about the one foot push and glide concept which helped it click for me. (of course that remains to be seen when I actually try to ride one.)

Good point touching on the leaning into the fall bit, not enough videos covering how to drive to very slow such as if you end up in a situation where you are among a bunch of pedestrians. Learning how to dismount is never touched on either, it's like here how you slow down but then it ends there, more videos should cover reducing speed dealing with driving slow , twist right/left and then where and how to dismount

I’d argue if you’re learning you shouldn’t be anywhere near pedestrians period. No different to eVx being in very open quiet suburban setting with plenty of space, not traffic or pedestrians. The rest I think will come naturally. The gliding with one foot technique early on would address slowing down for a dismount. I skateboard so this how it basically works.

Finding the confidence to ride it is the biggest obstacle, you're afraid to get going because of the chances of falling over. Just got my first EUC, the Gotway RS/HT. I didn't get very far, it was heavy so it really wanted to fall on it,s and also the first location I had in mind didn,t work out. A sidewalk with only some light poles as well as the woods nearby. I will take your advice as well as get a better location tomorrow with a nice long wall beside me. Also, I should calibrate it to make it easier for me to move forward. Takes everyone a different amount of time to learn the EUC, right? Also a funny side note, the Gotway beep is pretty loud, when I got it and turned it on once, people I live with already got triggered by that one (first time) loud turn-on beep.

Great video. Thanks. I have been trying a few different techniques for turning. I have settled with lifting my heel and decreasing the pressure on the peddle on the inside of the turn and on the outside peddle, bend my knee slightly and use it to tilt into the turn and transferring weight to the outside (peddle). The theory being, if my inside peddle hits the ground, the peddle can deflect up absorbing the shock through the movement on my ankle.

I have a KingSong 18XL and I was starting to worry that I'd screwed myself because it's just so big and heavy that doing anything with it that isn't supported by the wheel requires more exertion than a smaller wheel would. I'm 3 days in and my legs ache from barely an hour of practice yesterday. I had resigned myself to having to spend a month to get anywhere real. Of particular note, I'd been having trouble with the "spin in place" exercise that other channels mention, where you put one foot in place and ride the unicycle around it. Either my foot had too much grip or not enough, but I just couldn't get it to stay in place while spinning. Then I tried the half-moon exercise you showed, where you just turn the unicycle in a semicircle without moving the planted foot, and it's almost like something clicked, how the unicycle *should* feel when I'm controlling it with one foot. The balance of force to the outside vs. the inside, so it doesn't tip outside but also doesn't fall over. I tried some rolling touch-and-go, and while I can't do a "real" start because I'm stuck in my apartment for the time being, I almost felt something "real" happen on a couple of them... before I had to stop to avoid hitting my computer chair. I already have two hoverboards, and I'm pretty good with those. I had the hoverboard pretty much mastered within an hour of bringing it home the first time, but the unicycle was being elusive. I actually feel like I might be able to ride it "for real" before the end of the week now. After wearing myself out yesterday and getting nowhere, I was expecting to be stuck to the wall for a month or longer.

Keep at it dude, the aching is your muscles becoming stronger. Believe it or not riding dirt bikes can be a similar workout to riding an euc.

Wall training or fence rail training is helpful because , it's hard to learn from a perspective of getting on the wheel to only fall off in 2 seconds , so the wall lets you find your balance to build on the mechanics of the body movements.

Great tutorial, thank you very much !! I had a Ninebot E+, which I bought new from Speedy feet , and came with a damaged battery, and the told me to continue using it , and on the second and last cut off I broke badly my shoulder , and just now they recognised the problem, and send a new battery on warranty ,But late ,with pain I decided to sell the wheel, still missing it !!

that wheel is awful. Sad you had an injury. In this realm the old tech = dangerous tech. I would definitely get a more updated/recent EUC for your next purchase.

I really blame Ian Sampson of Speedy feet , I got in touch with him inmediately on my first cut off,and instead of sayin :don't use it any more , he told me to recharge it and continue using it !! UNBELIEVABLE !! I am 69 and have spoiled my shoulder for ever !!

With the wheels that have a handle, what do you think about wrapping a belt or short rope around it, so that when you inevitably fall off (hopefully at slow speed) you can save the wheel from falling over and scratching?
@evXNYC
@evXNYC 4 года назад
thats dangerous. and would create a muscle memeor of diving for a wheel. Just wrap baby padding around the wheel.

Great video and thanks for the tips. I'm on day 4 of riding my solowheel. I can mount, stop, and turn without issue. I for the life of me can't keep the EUC straight for long periods to save my life. I also get some wobble when getting up to speed. Any tips on keeping it straight? Or what I might need to do to remedy my situation?
@automan25
@automan25 4 года назад
I think lowering the tire pressure might help with the wobbles. I’m new to this so someone correct me if I’m wrong.
@evXNYC
@evXNYC 4 года назад
It def can, but as with other common little cheats you risk feeling weird at appropriate levels of pressure later and never really increasing the pressure

Thanks for the tips. Some feedback on your audio if you don't mind. There was a good bit of wind, vehicle noise. Other times your audio would be loud, other hard to hear so I'd turn up the volume. Then you'd cut into drone footage with music which was really loud since my volume was up to hear you. I'm not sure how "Wrong Way" does his YT but his voice is pretty consistent, no wind noise even while on the move. Maybe he uses a remote noise cancellation mic?

Idk if I gotta get used to it like riding a onewheel with the muscles used getting used to the motion but I feel the same riding euc. I can do like 10mins and shins fatigue. I had a euc protec sleeve and it bowed my legs out super far I had to remove power pads

Ok here are my 2 euro cents. After learning to ride the Inmotion V5f - Choosing the right shoes is very important. Not only will your ankles thank you, but also your feet. I have got very difficult feet. I cannot ride longer than 5 minutes straight on the V5f. My feet hurt like hell. So I need to walk it off and ride for another 5 minutes again. It's very difficult to control my EUC with my feet hurting. I also have bruises on my lower legs. But I fell only once. - placing your dominant foot the right way on the pedal is very important. Because after standing on the EUC it's difficult to correct the position of your dominant foot. Ideally, you want stand on one leg on the EUC for a few seconds. - To decrease wobbling I push my dominant leg against the EUC. - If you feel the EUC isn't going straight, straighten your back and your hips will automatically stay parallel with the road. And your feet will automatically adjust accordingly. - Buy a cheap EUC to learn on. You will drop it. Even on grass the EUC can fall hard. It's still all plastic. I diy a simple stand for my V5f. And I will eventually diy a sadle from yoga blocks. To lower the stress on my feet.
