@@himeshsahoo6748 Make your own jumps friend, Some of the best jumps I've ever ridden (talking actual vertical lips made on the back edge of 25 ft deep tree hollows and 10-15 ft drops) have been outside of bike parks (although parks are indeed very fun), have a look around locally I'm sure there are some doing it already! If not shovel time! (Small folding entrenchment tools from army surplus are good) Build in spring, ride em in summer, leave em in winter or rainy season for you I guess. Try and use natural features and obstacles to include or modify to work into the lines and just make sure it's not on either very well used/ private (unless you get land owners permission!) or conservation/park land and just start small, one cool lip built at the bottom of a nice fast DH section will do at first and go up from there it really does not take much. It's where most of the people I know started on those grass-root guerrilla jumps and they can be made as easy or as gnarly as you like. Don't let it hold you back!

I'm 42 years old, I used ride a xc mountain bike 10 years ago but picked it back up a little over 1 year ago. Slowly but surely. Started watching your videos and got more into it. I just built my first mini kicker ramp ( only 12" tall with a 10ft curve radius ). Haven't jumped a ramp since I was a kid but went to the park two days ago ( after binge watch you and Neil's GMBN videos on jumping ) and I DID IT!!! I'm so excited. Thank you Blake, Neil, and everyone at GMBN for the time you invest in your videos. I'm going to give it 100% and my 6 year old daughter and I will be sending steep jumps like this very soon. Once again, thank you very much. 🤓

Ah Blake is the best. Oddly great on TV. Someone put this guy in a movie. This is great rundown by a pro. The good news is that if you master these jumps and technique...it just flat out works everywhere nearly. Angry Chicken elbows up, forward body...preload the fork and lift off. You'll want to start scooping your feet to bring the bike up a bit too. You don't want straight arms and legs in the air as you cant adjust for wind gusts, a bar tweak, long or short landings or other abnormalities. It helps prevent the frozen dead sailor position too...much like doing a safety grab on a snowboard.

@topspot4834

Once it "clicks" it's surprising how effortless it is. Your instinct is to move back, but that's what throws you OTB, cause you're compressing your shock that way. Get forward, push with your feet, then start to "stand tall" as your rear tire is coming off the lip. When you're in the air, it's effortless, and then you just control your bars to prepare your front wheel for landing. Once you figure it out, you'll quickly realize that the bigger jumps are often easier than smaller ones. They're more predictable and you get more time to get in the proper position. And even if it's subtle, a slight tail whip or turn off the bars, kinda keeps you balanced and helps with your timing.
@tylercrosbie
@tylercrosbie 3 года назад
Coulda done with this 8 weeks ago. Hit a steep tabletop at speed, OTB, lucky to walk away without anything broken, albeit very very bruised. Hopefully some of these tips help me work back up to hitting steep lips and knowing what I’m doing.

#askblake #askgmbn fantastic vid but I’m sure I’m not the only one to be inspired by Blake to go back to riding a HT. (Thanks for the clipped in tip, terrifying but I guess necessary for flatfish pedally gnar. ) Anyway since mainly riding my HT I’m noticing more differences some just my poor technique perhaps like timing on the lip and preloading. Maybe it’s easier to give a specific example but on Rogate mainline my main adjustment is not overclearing the tables before the whale tail on the HT. If I put the same effort as my FS I’d land to flat pretty much. This is just an example but I guess some things are just different and others technique. It would be really cool to do a video or two on switching between the two in different settings.
@clivejcellis
@clivejcellis 3 года назад
Great video but confused on timing as some videos suggest legs should be fully extended just as the back wheel gets to the lip. This video shows legs extended when front wheel gets to lip. Can you use this back wheel timing on steep lips too or is it a recipe for disaster?

@jskep
@jskep 3 года назад
I had the same worries coming from a 27.5" to a 29". But honestly, I dont notice much difference in the air at all on my new 29er, it feels just as playful and fun to ride as my old 27.5er did. I think that geometry, weight and setup makes much more of a difference. One important thing to note: newer bikes (enduro bikes especially) are getting slacker and longer every year that goes past. I think that many bikes are actually getting too big. I'm 6' and have always ridden Large bikes, but on my new bike I have had to go down a size to get the geo that suits my riding style. If you're looking at a new bike, really make sure that you don't get one that is too big and has a really long wheelbase and chainstay, as this will have a MASSIVE effect on how it handles, especially on jumps like you mentioned.
@tommycooperfish
@tommycooperfish 3 года назад
Modern 29'ers are easily as jump-able and flickable yes (in some frames more so), it's more the bike geo and weight really not the wheel size that makes it good at popping off stuff and easier to whip. My question would be what is your height? If your under say 5' 8" I'd probably stick to 27.5 just for frame length to wheel size reasons. If not either wheel size is fine. If above 6'3" for sure a 29er.

I really like these video tutorials, however for me they are most of the time hard to understand. I would like for camera to slow down the action and have it break it down in to pieces. Because right now it seems that camera man just wants to shoot cool shots of Blake flying, but it would be more value to slow it down for us noobies to see what is happening how Blake is executing the jump (preload, pop) from side view and even it would be great to have some visual lines on top of the shot. That would make these videos even more helpful

With the right tools (I used a simple bike tool kit ru-vid.comUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L that you can strap to the bike) it's simple to assemble. As a 270lb guy looking for a way to get more exercise that's easy on my feet I have been impressed by this bike. The tires ship with air in the tires, but before you ride you need to pump them up som more, but once you do you can ride with confidence. You'll definitely want to replace the seat if you're going to ride for any real distance, but that's the case with most bikes. I'm loving it and it has given me a hobby from my youth back.

Would this be any different with a hardtail

It will be easier on a hardtail as the rebound from your shock wont buck you

In my opinion, jumping a modern hardtail is harder than jumping a full sus, because the lip gets absorbed by the fork, but there is no rear shock to absorb it so you actually end up getting bucked more. It's also harder to get as much height on a hardtail because there is no rear shock to compress into and then boost out of.

@@Jamie-eg8hr but you can bunnyhop a full rigid higher than a full sus so you would get more air on say a bmx than an enduro
