They say you can't teach and old dog a new trick, Well I'm 64 years old and I sure as hell just learned something new, That dropshot weight insert deal, is awesome, can't wait to try it, Good Job on your video, young man & thanks !!!
Thx for the kind words! I learned it from an old guy in his 70s by the river a while back! He said back then there were no internet and not every store sells good jigs for tubes and so that was his solution with his buddies! Cool stuff ya?
Thanks man! those are our local secret around here, but back in the day before internet help sold lures around the world easily, or even spread a style of hook around, this is how people done it! I hardly buy any tube jigs. in fact, your jigs are the first I have ever bought! Rigged them via drop shot weights all my life
Fantastic content. You have a flair for teaching. Appreciate the channel. Since I’m interested in fishing tubes hard this year, this is very timely content.
Thx, I appreciate the kind words. The spine rig or spiral rig is a great alternative for baits that are not tubes, but if you wanna make it spiral down on a slack fall like a tube! I am hoping to make videos of that in spring when the ice thaws
Tubes work like NED rigs if you downsize the tube. They also can work for flipping thick structure. Their shape is no different from TRD baits with exception of it being hollow. However, Tubes are more complicated to make. Most quality tubes are dipped in layers that can add various colors and flakes. Then the ends are cut on a special die made for the size of the tube. Tubes cost more to make Ned’s cost less. Any short fat piece of used worm is a good substitute for a TRD. Your favorite color stick worm cut in half is now your favorite TRD times two. Floating worms might be a small advantage sometimes, but bass more often strike both tubes and TRD lures on the fall. Bass have no problem snatching them off the bottom either; they do it all the time with crayfish, gobies, tadpoles, darters and sculpins.
you are pretty right! that's how i fish most of my tubes too. with the plastic around the head of the jig, it seems to be able to roll over rocks easier than just a plain jig. so it snag a bit less.. at least in my experience fishing them in creeks for smallies and even eels bite em... annoying stuff haha. the slime that keeps on sliming and sticks onto your fishing line
@@rawrfishing Hunt house Official Store Hunt house Dark Sleeper Swimbaits soft lure 2.2 inch 1/4oz /5.5cm/7-grams for $2.97 each. Check them out might like to try some. Caught crappie scale weight one-pound 14-ounces. Everything eats them; add some wire or the Pickerel will rob you. I use a 6-inch leader and 10-pound seven-strand wire and a haywire twist knot.
can't seem to find their store, the amount of people selling that dark sleeper have been rising ! but it's odd that people sell them in different sizes per page. wish they have a page with multi colors and sizes where you can choose from. feel free to drop a link here :)
@@rawrfishing That is true however I made two orders recently and they are the best looking baits and come packaged the same as Megabass ones. Copy of store on AliExpress (hunt house Official Store) sometimes you need the exact spelling to find it. Go to store and search swimbait in store search box. Just tried it and it worked for me selling 40% off
"any short fat piece of used worm is as good as aTRD".......????? TRDs are made of floating elastomeric material, so that , when used in conjunction with a good ned head, will stand perfectly straight up from the bottom.....There is quite a difference between a deadsticking bait that lies flat on the bottom and one that stands straight up, let's face it!
Excellent video. I like the #2 rig. Easy, fast, weedless, minimal hardware. Very slick. Going to start some old fashioned tube flipping. Just like the senko, sometimes less is more.
thx man! the stupid rig is definitely nice! I think what annoys ppl is the cutting of the line, but that can easily be solved with a snap. i actually like using a snap as it allows the lure to swing better too when you do some lift and drop!!!
Texas rigging a tube? Never would have to of it. Hmm what else can I texas rig? Because I hate getting snagged. I get snagged all the time! Thanks for the tip!
No problem man! Many folks use this in ends of deep water docks. Skip under and be pulling out good bass. I do it for hanging trees in lakes I kayak fish. Skipping made easy this way!
Another great video. Going to try the stupid tube rig. My tubes get hung up frequently where I fish. Ponds with heavy leaf/mud and live plant bottoms. Rivers with jagged shale too.
@@rawrfishing I took the stupid rig out in the Rocky River Metro Park this evening and got about 15 casts in before a snag. It was my fault dragging over large flat boulders. I will try all of your methods. I saw a 8" smallie following a 4" tube so I know it was the right bait and my technique was good. Thank you for all your videos. They are a great help. Maybe I should embrace the dinks with a smaller tube until I catch a few.
yeah rocks can be unforgiving. some rocks are sharp where some would just wedge your line between two of em. i would definitely suggest smaller tube with lighter line if you are often touching bottom. You are very welcome! I am very happy to hear that my videos are helping others enjoy the sport of fishing! :)
Now which actions do ea one do would be another video....also try adding a foam earplug soaked in favorite fish scent.😮 Also 60 degree line tie vs 90 degree ....great video
Unfortunately I don't have the means to record underwater footage. Perhaps one day when I can retire with a boat, under water cameras and relocate to a place that isn't swamp world and have clear waters lol.
@@rawrfishingyou could get a small fish tank and demonstrate it there. It would be a little expensive for a video but it's a lot cheaper than buying a new setup
Having the weight in the center makes it fall a bit different than if the weight is outside. This is why people still use tube jigs rather than Texas rigging, where the weight is outside. But some still do and peg the cone weight!
Please can you help, is there a shallow spool available for a Kastking spartacus? I have looked at all the normal places but have been unsuccessful. Cheers
