In this video, I will be showing you how to root and grow an Alocasia from a corm. This is a fast and easy step-by-step process and is guaranteed to succeed if you follow these steps.
The corms shown in the video were taken from a mother plant, which I also grew from a corm.
If you have any Alocasia questions, please do let me know in the comments. I will be following up with a video update when it’s time to repot the Corms into their own individual pots.

Thank you and enjoy

The way I do it is the same thing with a dome on top and it acts like a green house. No mold at all. No matter how you place the corms on the perlite you will get roots. It will take about a week to start getting roots. Always close to a window that you will get indirect sunlight. Some sunlight like a couple of hours works good too.

Thats awesome! Do you water them during the waiting period as well? And approximately how long should we wait before transferring them to a small pot?

Maybe sprinkle it with some cinnamon powder? I’m not sure, so try with only one to see if it helps .

Did you open the container every day ? to prevent mold, it is good to renew the air every day.

I have been growing them in fluval stratum instead of perlite and has kept the mold at bay

Can I use vermiculite instead of perlite?

Yes, you can get the same results using vermiculite 😊

Whats a good alternative to perlite? Its quite hard to find where i live and expensive too.. is cactus substrate enough?
@PlantsbyGhada
@PlantsbyGhada 6 месяцев назад
Where are you located? I sell perlite to Canada and the US free shipping when you order the 14L bag www.tropicsinthecity.com. But a good alternative would be just good old water. All you would need to do is place the corms in a shallow dish, with just enough water for the corms to sit in it, but not swim. Cover for added humidity, place them in a warm, bright area and you’ll still get the same results.

Did you water this while it was in there? Like we’re you keeping up on the humidity?
@PlantsbyGhada
@PlantsbyGhada 10 месяцев назад
The dome helps to maintain the humidity/helps slow down the water vaporizing too fast. So I didn’t have to water it too often. I would say once every 2 weeks. Once the new leaves grow in, I switched to a higher dome and eventually would remove the dome and have to water once a week. Generally I would let the water to almost dry out but don’t let it dry out for too long or it’ll cause dry rot

Do we need to water them in between, or just wait till the leaves show up?
@PlantsbyGhada
@PlantsbyGhada 8 месяцев назад
You def need to avoid letting it dry out too much. As long as you keep a dome, you won’t have to water them as often… roughly once every 2 weeks.

I accidentally broke my baby alocasia off of its corm when potting it out from the mother plant! It has some small roots and two small leaves, will it still survive without its corm? And what will happen to the corm?
@PlantsbyGhada
@PlantsbyGhada 3 месяца назад
As long as it has roots, it should be fine. It could still have a piece of the corm attached to it. But it’s hard to tell without seeing it. As for the corm, you can propagate it using this method. It should also be find.

Mine all are getting crusty after I took them out of the grow box after 5 months 😢
@PlantsbyGhada
@PlantsbyGhada 4 месяца назад
Grow boxes are great to get your corms to root faster because of the high humidity, to avoid them going into shock, try to maintain a high humidity for a few weeks until it can acclimate to its new environment outside the grow box. Try keeping the substrate evenly moist to avoid the roots from drying out also
