“If you’re watching this chances are you’re in the ball park of a 7 minute mile” Me laying on my bed after just dying from running 1.5 miles in 16:00 lmao
I've been running for two weeks now, my mile PB was 9:37 and now it's all the way down to 6:40! Extremely happy with my progress and pushing for that 5:59.
Ran an indoor mile in January that my running club holds each year and managed a 7:38. Wanted to break eight minutes so I was satisfied at 72 years old. That would be a great goal for next January.
I had a physical test in which i had to run a mile under 7 minutes, but when i was practicing the best i could do was 9 minutes. But somehow on test day I did it in 6:23.. i was surprised by myself, i just got motivation from other who were doing it under 6 minutes.
@@Zedct5 adrenaline. In high school I ran 800s and miles. I sucked. Almost as a joke, my 4x800 relay team made me anchor the relay at a big meet. I was NOT prepared. Somehow I ran a 2:15 800 with a previous PR of 2:35. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug!
Yeah. Run fast bust pace yourself. I regret to this day because on March 30th, I got a 5:56 1600m. I felt like if I kept doing the distance, then I would have had in the 5:30's or so by the end of the year.
You really start to feel your runs when you make the choice to get into the 7s. My goal this year is to get a sub 7 on my 10k. Ran 7.2 today. Great video.
I went all out yesterday and hit 7:31 at 265lbs . Currently on a weight loss journey. I plan on giving it another shot in a couple of months once I’ve lost 20 more pounds or so and shooting for sub 7.
Congrats on hitting 7:31!!! We are glad to hear that you are on a journey finding a healthy lifestyle. Let us know how your 2nd shot goes! We think you got this! 💪
Thanks man since last month I have been following your given workout and I was really happy to say that today I completed 1 mile in 6:49 and looking forward to complete it around 6:30
Where I run in my neighborhood it is very hilly Yesterday I ran a 9:55 Last time i did a mile on the treadmill i got an 8:00 Went to the track today and ran a 7:50
I started as a hs freshman doing 8:30, over the last two or so weeks of summer break, I did the first running I had done all summer. I started doing long distance, anywhere from 2-4.5 miles at an average 8:30-9:00 pace the whole way. As of today, we timed our mile at school and I had gotten a 7:02 mile. Hoping to reach 6:30 by the end of the school year!
Harry Springfield in the british army.......my son is in the army ..been in 3 years take home pay is 1400 quid as a driver.....depends on your trade though ...a technician will get much more than that
I'm a 6'3" and 250 lb muscular mastodon and for the first time in many years I attempted to run a mile this early morning. I managed to finish the mile in 6 minutes and 51 seconds. I was actually very surprised I managed to do this at my size. I couldn't even run a mile in 7 minutes 15 years ago when I was a HS junior and 170 lbs.
This video has great timing, last time i did my fastest mile it was 8 minutes (eh like 8:02, lol) before my last 5k i did. i totally shuld go for that 7 minute mile!
+Loose Goose I cant run below 8min on a track. but on the river trailer i ran 7:28min mile the day before I ran 7:27min. I couldn't run a mile last year with out puking. first time I ran in May, I ran 10+min mile and couldn't walk the next day.
Highly motivational video for me. I have plagued myself with injuries for a couple years now but for the moment I seem to able to improve without injuries and hopefully I can get back to my race pace soon. I am (was) a 200lb ‘er with 1 mile at 5:32. Thanks for posting.
Actually ran my first under 7 minute mile today. It's my 1st year of running anniversary also PB 10k and 1k really happy considering I'm quite tall and heavy 6ft1 about 100kg
I'm at an 8:45 minute mile as of today. Gonna adjust this to get under 8. I turn 30 in January and my goal is to run a sub 7 minute mile. Thanks run experience. Fastest mile (about 8 years ago) was 7:06. 😬
I like this plan. I've been running for about 6 months now and actually have no idea what my fastest mile is. I think sometime this week I'm going to go warm up with a mile and then the second mile I'm going to drop the hammer and see what I can do. Then I have a base to start from. I can tell you it's not going to be anywhere near 7 miles
great video, thanks for posting I can already do the 7 min but am working on to reach 6:40 or even 6:30. The 400m splits are no problem I can do them faster but going from 1 min to 15 sec rest is quite hard. Right now I do this on the road where I measured exactly as now in winter and LOCKDOWN, we have no access to the real track. Looking forward to more good videos and will let you know about my success.
I remember watching this video when it came out and I genuinely needed to watch it because I really wanted to break 7 minutes. When the video came out, I broke 7 almost a week later. Since then, I realized that what I was doing wouldn't work. You actually need to run to get better at it; All I was doing was just running the track practices every day and nothing more. Now, I realized that it is definitely important to do your summer training and get in high mileage every week. Although mileage doesn't always mean success, it does in fact mean that you improve slightly. That's why you practice like you race, if not harder. Now, in cross country season, I can successfully run a 5k in all three of the miles in under 7 minutes.
Same applies for 6 and 5. Rest is half the time it takes you to run a lap. And this time is the most important thing. But instead of 4, make it 10 laps. That will let you run it and not be too hard. With 4 you will run it, but it will feel like you are dying.
I was just watching the Olympic trials and saw this gal run a 3:58 which gave me confidence that if she could do it, than anyone should be able to if they put in enough effort. Dudes should be able to do even a little better!
Thanks all the track are close indoor and outdoor how can i do this on the street with a stop watch? And how can i build up to holden this pace for 6 miles? Coach Nate!!!
Guys how many days per week do you do these workouts? Once per week or 2-3x per week? I been working on this once a week and always had a hiccup and couldn't finish like six weeks. But in December I'm proud to say that I hit 6:55 mile. (Haven't even tried that since, and I know I lost some of it. Ran Disney Half Marathon in January and then jumped on a cruise (finally trying to get back into real training) So again how many days per week do you try these workouts? Thanks
The problem I see here is that on the 4th and 5th week your basically seemingly able to run the 7 minute mile already if you hustle with an all out effort. Why wait until the 6th week? i wrote it out Week 4:2 800s 3:30 pace 30 second rest Week 5: Full mile descending pace 1:55 pace 1:50 pace lab then 1:45 then under 1:45 pace I think in both you can just hustle past these for hit a 6:59. I've done much faster years ago but have to relearn it so am trying this plan BTW. the 30 second rest for the 2 half miles seems pointless unless its gonna be a walk because if its a slow jog you can probably skip it and power your way through and struggle hard but hit the 7 minute mile already after the first 3 weeks of training? Just my thoughts, i'm asking a question not criticizing.
Good video 👍I'm trying to run 1mile in 7 minutes. I currently at 1 mile in 11 miles. I just started enjoying running but my ankle and calf give up on me.
Been able to maintain a 9-10 minute mile time for a 5-15 mile runs. When I run sub 3 mile run I can get it around 8.5 min a mile. My goal is to get sub 7 mins for runs under 3 miles, and to have a sub 8 minute mile for longer runs like half marathons. And to successfully complete a ultra, dont care about the time for that one lol
This particular workout can be done once a week (progressing in demand as shown in video) in combination with your other training, workouts, mobility and rest.
So I decided to start out my 400m at 1:10 pace... stopped for 10 seconds heavy panting... then half mile at 2:40 ... and then somewhere between half mile point and the finish, I had to stop 2 more times panting very hard, and my mile time ended up to be 7:04. Lesson learned: Don't stop for too long.
Correction to my strides - I did a lot better last night slowing down a slight bit, and ended up with a new PR at 5:55 mile time--- Instead I did not stop and just keep going, which made the difference! Wish I can keep at this pace for a 5k!
Today, I ran a mile in 7:50. I know it’s pretty good, but I wanna get under 7 minuets before I join cross country. Do you have any tips you didn’t say in the video.
ran a 7:38 in my first attempt but it was cold and I was bundled up. I am 57 and cycle a lot. Haven't run in years though I ran a 4:30 way back when. Trying to understand the best type of shoes for this type of running towards this goal. I like ASICS. Need a wide toe box. ANy suggestions for shoes? Thx
When I was younger (3-5 grade), I always thought that below a 7 minute mile was so fast. Now that I’m in 8th grade, I can easily run under 6:30 in my cross country races lol
What time are you at now? At the beginning of this track season I was at 7:24 right now I’m at 6:56 🏃🏻♀️. You definitely can be amazing in track you just definitely have to keep pushing it and believe in yourself!! Don’t let your mind get in the way of it
I did 7.37 minute a mile. Then left. Tried again after an year its now 9 minute mile. Now started training again and I hope to achieve 7 min a mile this time.
just run. ever since quarantine i ran like a kilometer everyday, a few days back i wanted to see my time, i used to run a 12 minute mile, i did an 8 this time
7 minutes, I run 1500m in 4:27 and 3000m in 9:22 For me: 4:45 mile or 2 miles in 10min, 1:10 laps for a mile, but I was in my HS track team for 3 years
My fastest mile rn is between (ik it’s a big difference but I’m just not sure lol) 6:00 - 6:30. But I’m doing indoor for the first time and I do XC. But during cross country my fastest race pace was 7:02. I’m trying to make my fastest pace my race pace. But I’m waiting to see how I do in my very first indoor meet and see if there will be an improvement based on the flatter area. We did 1000 and 800 repeats and my time had improved well, but I didn’t know if it was just because I was feeling good that day or what.
5:36 is my average time, but I run track for D3 college. Never really trained extensively my body is just built for jogging long distances. I’m 6’1 and only 149 pounds😂.
I’m 5’10 and 135 pounds but I’m 15 and I’ve been running a while went from running about 100 meters then having to rest to running a 2km run in 9 mins best time 🙂 training for the army
POGGERS I've only been running for 5 months and I'm at 7:30 I've been pushing my body to the limits I hope I can run a sub 7 min 5k before I hit one year of running :)
Hi Robert, Ideally we want to keep moving at a level that allows our heart rate to come down but not cool down. I would use the rest as a recovery jog, a pace to where you can maintain a conversation and use 90% capacity of your breath.
I'm 51 y.o. I started 2021 with a 5K pace of 12:32. 7 days ago, I was using Strava to track my 5Ks. My fastest 1st mile is/was 8:09. I'm not able to keep that pace, So it goes to 💩 after that LOL 10:01 minutes for the 2nd mile. My best 400m is 1:46
One or twice a week will be plenty. We are assuming of course that this workout is not the only running you are doing. This would count as your track/speed day(s)
what would you recommend for someone who is trying to get longer distances, instead of doing 4X400 what happens if you do 6, 7 or 8 X400 does it hurt you?
The fastest I’ve ever run in my life was an 8:59 at like 220lbs. I feel like I’ll never be that fast again cause I currently weight 260 (I’m 6’3”) I’d give anything to run a 7 min mile.
Why would you not do something like 8x400 to build stamina at pace? Then 4x800. Then 3x1200. Then you’d have more stamina at the key pace you’re shooting for.
I am 31, I used to play basketball regularly (nothing pro). I have no experience in running but I have been run-jogging for a while now and I run a mile on road in 7-7.10.... Is it bad or ok or what??
I average a 7:25 minute mile pace for a 4 mile race I have gotten down to as much as a 6:44 minute mile pace but only for one mile I am more likely to run at a 7:30 minute mile pace pace.
