Great timing!! I just stumbled upon your channel less than a week ago and you've been able to help me understand the golf swing better than the other big golf channels however, I'm too aggressive with any sport I play, and have carelessly gone out to the course and range with my new swing and now my back hurts. I'll need to heed the advice here and slow it down and build up the muscle memory and strength. Thanks man! All noobies should be watching your videos and learning your method. You can count on me sharing your channel first! Peace and God bless you!

I've been using this little drill you are doing at 1:20-1:30 and the more I'm doing it the more I find that squat to square seems to be activated by the right knee. When you say squat to square, I assumed that I was expected to do a squat like a weight lifter (both legs active). I'm finding that just getting the right knee to bend almost transfers the weight back to the left side without having to think about it. I think the squat is initialized specifically with the right knee. It's like a chain reaction. You bend the right knee with the weight loaded and your body just throws the weight to the left side in an instant to balance. Try it out and tell me if you find that to be the case. Keep in mind I'm a stroke survivor so I have zero left side feedback. Let me know and if I'm right you have to mention my name in one of your videos. 😃

Chuck, fantastic video and information, as usual. I have really been struggling with back pain after each round and I think I am guilty of this exact thing. I am always too quick to go out to the course without putting the time into practicing the basics. Your advice about the back foot is absolutely spot-on; when you allow your foot to roll like that, it also seems to prevent you from pushing off the back. One final observation regarding your reference to Tiger Woods Golf Digest article: I notice that every swing he does, from wedge to fairway wood, his back foot/ankle stays put and rolls as he makes impact, EXCEPT for his driver shot! His heel comes up, and he actually said "I like to feel like my right knee sort of drives toward my left knee. That triggers my weight shift." However, his form on all of his shots follows exactly with your Dead Drill. Thanks again for the great video. Back to practicing!

Thanks Chuck, most useful. I have reached the point where adding speed is the next step. Please would you explain, in kinetic terms, the relative speed peaks of hip, core, arms and club. You have set out in detail the various component parts of the downswing, but it would be most helpful to know these relativities.

Glad I found this. Unfortunately, too little, too late for me too. In my late 50's I really worked on coming underneath and instituting the side bend. I'm 62, just retired in the Monterey/ Pebble Beach area so I can play lots of golf, and because of this and other bad swing mechanics, I am unable to play golf not even a year into retirement. Lots of PT and continue to work on their directives to build core and sound stability, but not getting better. I wish I would have had this instruction years ago.

Yes If I do right arm only swings or throw a ball I feel like Im releasing into the ground nearer my right foot than the ball. But my left side action means I would release just past the ball if that makes sense!

Hi Chuck, another awesome video. I wish I knew about you 15 years ago, before my herniated c5 occurred. I have not had surgery, and will do anything I can to avoid that risky remedy. Currently I play until my back spasms stop me, then I’m out for a month. Usually happens when my game is finally getting back to high level, then I have to start from scratch. If I employ your method, will I be able to prolong the duration I can play?

@@Rotaryswing - I have spent a whole lot of years of my life beating the crap out of my body, especially from motocross (paying for it now). I also suffer from a few golf injuries (primarily back) from years of emulating tour pros (like Tiger's early swing). Your instruction is invaluable in helping to keep me from further injuring myself and yet play some of the best golf of my life. I am not a large guy (5'9") but I have always enjoyed the mantle of one of the longest hitters around, but that has come at a premium to my body. Fortunately for me, along came Chuck and Rotary Swing. I am still pretty darned long, especially for my size and age, but I am doing it with far less effort than before and consequently with far less stress to my body. I just wish I would have learned this when I first began golf. I would be so much better than I am today, with few aches and pains. 😎

Luckily Ive learnt this great move a few years ago having been inspired by Chuck although I switched from focusing on right shoulder blade to right glute quite early on! I have found (prob due to hyper mobile joints and overagression!) that if I think turn/coil etc I massively overrotate/sway so I use an imaginary! force working back and parallel along the target line that pulls my right side against a slight left side resistance.

Most golfers higher than 4 hcp put far to much effort (especially in the arms) into a slow laborious backswing, killing the prospect of dynamic/athletic action on the downswing.Im old but ive done a lot of strength/conditioning in lockdown the main benefit of which has enabled me to use my strong muscles (core glutes etc) softly fast and early!

Teachers are going to have to decide whether or not they want to be responsible for crippling their students, and students of the golf swing are going to have to decide whether a "promised" extra 5 or ten yards added to their shots is worth a life time of pain and physical limitation.
