Razor clamming is a popular activity, especially along Oregon's northern-most beaches in Clatsop County. Thousands of people make trip to these beaches to harvest when razor clamming is open. One problem for the clams is that some are wasted in the process of digging. ODFW razor clam biologist Matt Hunter explains how to safely and effectively target larger clams to protect juvenile clams and avoid breaking clams while digging.

A new study shows razor clams containing low levels of domoic acid may cause memory problems for those who eat large amounts year-round. The Department of Health recommends you eat no more than 15 razor clams each month for 12 consecutive months.

So, at 1:06 there’s a photograph of a shovel and over 100 (200?) dead or dying razor clams with a caption that is almost completely obliterated by the subtitles. Come on, people. Get it together in editing. There’s an important lesson there and it should be seen. So frustrating. I’m guessing this is a photograph of someone’s unlawful harvest and it took place in 2004. But I guess we’ll never know for sure.

There are people in the ODFW I can NOT stand!.....I have had friends that went razor clamming.....set the clam down on the sand and they watched as it dug back in! so don't give me that crap about having to take the first 15 unless some of the shells are damaged!!
