Inflatable Sailing Kayak - Episode 9 : Making a £1 $1 Poundland Sail Step-by-Step
Making a sail for your kayak won't cost you a lot, just £1 for the material!
It's the best way to test out if sailing is really your 'thing' and also get to do some DIY-hobby without cutting a hole in your pocket.
You could use this same method and materials for both solid body or inflatable kayaks.
Watch this video till the end and you shall be rewarded~😁

Hahahaha not too stingy tho, I've just bought a roll of ripstop & 600D canvas costing me over £50 recently 😂😂 this vid was made to lure stingy pockets out of the woodwork lol

Thanks for the shoutout!! Haha I use a pallet plank for my boom in the end so I can add in eyelets to tie the sail to it
@sitb-
@sitb- 2 года назад
You're welcome! have you tried using a pvc pipe for the boom? It's much lighter and waterproof. Can you adjust the clew-outhaul tension of the sail, or is it a fixed setting? Speak soon!

@@sitb- the monsoon in SG was quite bad so I postponed my build. Was afraid the PVC pipe would flex too much, so would prefer wood

@@altonkoh3276 hey man, new episode 10 is out on building leeboard mounts, it'll get you good upwind sailing 💪🏼😁

greetings, I have the same kayak with sail, I want to ask if you have managed to sail upwind, sail towards the wind at 45 degrees.
@sitb-
@sitb- 2 года назад
Hola Manuel, yes I've sailed upwind many times with this kayak and the different sail setups, but not very fast 2-4knots. Now, I'm looking for ways to sail even faster with thinner leeboard, stronger rudder transom, adjustable sail clew-outhaul and some other adjustment components. How big is your sail? what material did you use for the sail?

L'albero di che materiale è?

L'albero in questo video era una vecchia canna da pesca in carbonio. Evita di usare il metallo perché è pesante

Did you have to use special thread
@sitb-
@sitb- Год назад
Hey man, I used just regular thread for this since I didn't have time to source for thin nylon thread. Also to sew with nylon thread, you need special machine needle to run it smoothly. Honestly, if you use the sail once a month and hardly touch the water, it'll last a long time. As long as you don't leave it out in harsh weather, be fine for a couple dozen sail outs. Good luck!

@@bamboozle999 if you have a kayak as big as an Itiwit 2, make a sail sized at least 1.5-1.8m2 for best results of sail power. I'm about 62kgs + 2.2m3 Sail + 8kts winds = 5 to 7kts sailing speed. Bear in mind that inflatables have soft hulls and it flexes in waves bogging your speed down, so you'll need to have bigger sails to achieve greater speeds compared to a rigid body kayak. Let me know if you need anything else 👍🏼

@@sitb- thanks for sharing. I'm actually looking at buying an optimist sail and rigging. I can buy where I'm from for about 250usd. This is a 3.3sqm sail. I might need to modify the mast and boom to become collapsible, ad I really want to be able to fit it into my car or a taxi

Ciao amico, il kit da vela è stato tutto costruito da me. Non vendo il prodotto in questo momento, ma forse in futuro quando il design sarà perfezionato. Hai lo stesso kayak? Itiwit?
