I know I'm very late, but if you try to sand something rough with fine grit sandpaper, the sandpaper will clog really quickly, so you'd essentially be wasting it.

@johnl8707 4 года назад
This is the process, for sure.... but it doesn't have to be so exact and time consuming, every time, unless you messed up when you're working with epoxy. You don't always have to go grit by grit, from a 400 to a 10,000. Work your way there but always finish with a 10k and a polish. I generally start at 1000 grit. Go to 3000, then 5000, then 10000, then finish with a polish. But the key is to not have mistakes before starting. If you get a bug or a hair or a bubble because you didn't use your heat gun... start at 150.

Plain water should do, but when I used to polish headlights by hand, I used 3-4 drops of dish washing fluid for a 500ml bowl of water, mix it with my hand and "wash" my surface and sandpaper with it. This slows down the process a little, but it gives you more control and you feel the rough spots faster, because it glides different and the difference is more obvious than with plain water.

@@youtubeaccount0x073 Hi! I decided not to sand it too much 'coz it will make the keycap smaller. I used the 1000 grit just to make it a little smoother then brushed it with some sealant to make it glossy.

Can you use this same concept for epoxied tumblers? I put a final layer of epoxy on a tumbler and there are a few spots where tiny dust particles landed on it. Could I use a high grit sanding pad with that paste and buff it out without having to do another layer of epoxy over it? What all would you recommend? Thanks!

Good video. This also can be done with a small sanding machine, like an orbital to speed up the process, that being said, sometimes when things are done by hands they give you another level of satisfaction. A humble suggestion: Please try to get the camera no so close to the work. If you want to do a close up make it really slow so the viewer dont get dizzy and can appreciate the detail or read the words on the items. Please keep making these videos, excellent job. Thanks.

What happens if you go up grit in higher increments? I've got some epoxy crafts with super cloudy edges, I can't tell if I'm actually making any progress with the rough sandpaper since it doesn't actually look clear until you go through several cycles, so not sure if they are worth continuing working on.

If the scratches are not very serious, you can use sandpaper with 5000-10000 grit to polish it. If you don't need overall sanding, you can also use tape to cover areas that don't need to be sanded. 😊

Hello there, great video. I have been looking for something to bring this kind of result to my jewellery pieces which I make from wood and resin. It’s been a dry frustrating process because I was under the impression that I would be able to apply the resin then set and add extra polish with polishing paste. When I did my pieces became cloudy and patchy. I’m so discouraged because the process is far more complex and I don’t want to charge more. I’m not sure what to do

Slightly confused as to why you need to sand or polish if your resin was poured evenly and bubbles were torched off before cured. As for the small lip on the bottom of coaster, if you just use a felt or cork on the bottom, no need to sand to perfection. As for the top, if bubbles were torched before curing and a good resin was used, there shouldn’t be a need to sand. I have been making these for years and only occasionally have I had the need to sand anything as always clear smooth and even.
@BuzzingFish
@BuzzingFish 5 лет назад
Your suggestion is very good, I will try to learn your method, how to eliminate bubbles and other issues, thank you, we can communicate more. This video is to teach some people how to polish resin works. If you want to make irregular resin work, you need to learn how to polish your work. You must be a artist 😊
@dechesino601
@dechesino601 5 лет назад
Not an artist at all, just someone who dabbles in resin and other mixed media in my spare time. I learned what I know only from watching other RU-vid videos and never saw a need to sand or polish unless edges were extreme. In the few occasions when I did lightly sand a sharp edge and the resin became dull, a dab of fresh resin with gloved fingertip on those edges fixed all. Again, not an artist nor consider myself an expert, just self taught from RU-vid. Never saw any circumstances where such extreme sanding was needed (unless self shaping for jewelry and other odd shapes) and never have I seen anyone need a polishing paste. There are a few videos on this platform showing how a fresh top coat fixes most imperfections. Happy Resin.
@LoudNoob

Because anyone can get a strike, its how you handle the spares that matters. When you have deadlines, knowing how to fix and repolish resin makes or breaks projects that you cant just repour

@dechesino601
@dechesino601 5 лет назад
maya tanna My original post about not needing to sand if resin was poured properly was in reference to this video only and making flat poured coasters. Jewelry making is a whole different ball game. Yes, sanding off sharp edges is a necessity for safety reasons. In my experience only, if the sanded portion is a small spot, just a finger smear, or small dipped brush, of fresh resin in a thin coat (as not to drip) is perfect for bringing out that perfect shine again. Something simple as making flat coasters in a smooth mold, should not need sanding.
@Aetila
@Aetila 2 года назад
I started with epoxy resin...the problem is the surface inside the form it gets opaque, but the pouring side is clear, it should be on the contrary, it's so annoying. Also, it not an even surface, like that in the video, I pour faces and different uneven forms, it's not possible to sand it. What could be another solution? Applying acetone?
