This is a great display of how much work it takes to get a resin piece polished. I make resin castings mostly on my lathe where it is much quicker to get through all the grades of paper and micro mesh. People just don't realize how much work goes into getting a scratch free surface!

@@donovanbryan5000 It's like that for all crafts. You should hear crocheters and knitters complain about people who want them to make a sweater or large blanket for free, as if it will take just an hour or so to make, not to mention the cost of the yarn. Like that blanket used $150 in yarn, and I spent 200 hours making it, and you want to pay me $50? No. Not a chance. A friend of mine is an artist, and he sometimes does business for other artists. They never quibble about his prices because they know what it takes to make the piece.

Don't worry, lots of people understand how much time he spends, and how many different sand papers he uses, because he films it, and even if he accelerate the process, many people get that it's rather a matter of hours than minutes... @@33tours1 I guess I should’ve worded that better, some people may not realize how much time he spends on sanding because of the speed up process😉 I know I didn’t fully understand it when I first started watching him. This is how resin should be finished, by sanding, cutting and polishing. I use to work for a company that did resin moulded kitchen, bar and table tops. It drives me nuts when I see RU-vidrs do flood pouring leaving dribble down the side or when they roughly sand and just spray cloudy varnish over the top

I'm always happy when I can dome small parts or use top coat, but you can't always avoid sanding. 😜

@KG-th3cr
@KG-th3cr 2 года назад
The sanding and polishing part isn't always necessary. If the surface is smooth enough for you, just mix a small bit of resin and brush the outside with a cheap brush and the resin you just mixed. It will be clear as glass. Not sure where I read about this but it really saves a lot of time and effort.

Do you keep those small pieces of plastic to make more smaller squares and even your larger squares?

Thank you! I was wondering if making a block like that would be possible. Would you like to share the process to make the block? Thanks! ❤

Jedrek, I always love your videos. I watch every one. The sides of the "polishing paste" sample appeared in the video to be as transparent as the top. Maybe the camera just couldn''t capture the difference. Have you ever tried putting a piece of plexiglass on top? Surface tension should keep the epoxy in contact. Maybe if you used a thick piece of plexi for the top it would be level enough to begin sanding with a fine grit.

The resin shrinks as it dries. That's why there is an indentation in the dice

Okay so I have a game board that I made and it’s my first time using anything like this and I know how to keep the bubbles out and all that but after I do probably two layers of epoxy…. Do I have to sand through all those steps as well for my game board or no ? Are these steps what you need to use for only the top side of your piece every time you make a piece? Say if you do a pyramid casting …. Do you need to do all these steps for all the sides then ? I so don’t want to mess up my board game that I put a lot of time into making 🫣 thank you for any help you can give 😊

I'm a newbie at resin. I'm curious why the sand papering? it looked nice when you took the plastic molds away.
