Even though you never stopped talking everything you said was informative, educational and practical. Well presented, well spoken and well executed. I learned heaps from this. Great job!
Exactly right. What we don't want is a 2hr video of some guy droning on and on. A video like this one is informative and gets to the point - 'Here's what you need and here's how to do it'
Out of all the videos I watched, this is by far the most fundamentally informative and detailed explanation of how to go about the process. You went way above and beyond and answered all my questions and concerns. Now I know. 👌 This video is pure GOLD. Exactly the content you need on youtube. Thanks a lot man.
20 minutes of gold. Thanks my dude! I just painted and clear coated a gas tank, and now feel pretty confident to take it that extra distance to look professional.
Wow. This guy could work for NASA. I seen some of their videos on spacecraft electronic component soldering. Very much like this one; efficient use of words, specific, steps, articulate, and to the point! No, 'uhmms', 'aahh's', etc. Thank you, Nic!
Why am I just now seeing this video? Best one yet! Thank you! Very well spoken, very thorough, you answered questions no one else has been able to yet.
I cannot agree more with many of the comments. Your tutorial is precise well spoken in a extremely informative of all the other videos. I’ve watched on RU-vid showing the process of removing orange peel to paint. Well done my young friend!!
Very accurate and informative video. I have been detailing vehicles for over 40 years and this is the best video I've seen showing the hows and how not to it properly.
This may been 4 yrs ago, but ill tell you i bet “ god willing” this young man is doing big things. This young man is spot on with the info he is giving and very well spoken
Wow! If Carlsberg made paintshop videos...... This would be it! Well done young man, this must be the most thorough and informative videos on here. This is the sort of information amateurs and DIYers spend hours trying to find on line. No ego by just showing off what you can do but actually trying to teach and gift your knowledge to help others. I actually feel confident at setting about any paint job after watching this. Thank you.
Best video on the subject I'm come across. full of useful and vital tips. I got to the 2000 grit stage stage, panicked as it was so foggy...and layed down a new coat of clear. Got orange peel again but now I've seen it go from dull to shiny again on this video its given me confidence to try again.
That is a TON of detail (no pun intended). Thanks for the thorough explanation. As others have said, this deserves way more views. (Insert standing ovation here.)
Im only a third of the way through your vid and I have learnt more about sanding, and sandpaper than every other video combined I have ever watched on RU-vid.
When one combines knowledge with simplicity and the ability of being thorough is when one becomes the master of teaching. You my friend are definitely on point.
Definitely one of the best and informative videos ever, kudos for taking the time to explain everything and share your knowledge and experiences because like most people watching this I'm new to this and I'm always researching for answers to my questions but rarely get them. You touched on so many things that I've been trying to get answers to because you obviously are passionate about what your doing and not just after likes and comments, for real thanks again bro.💪
Great video bro! It would be nice to see links to some of those products on the description but that’s literally the only detail! Love the detailed explanation and examples.
Great info. Had to google it, ONR = Optimum brand "No Rinse Waterless Wash", a liquid cleaner popular with detailers, almost a cult following. Others suggest starting w/ 1000 or 1200 grit, then right to buffing compound. I used 1000 wet-sand on a whole newly painted car and got it to look like your post-sand stage. I didn't use a block but rather used 4 fingers on the paper, which gives better feel. I wiped the sandpaper across, not pulled/pushed along my fingers, which avoids cutting troughs. Sometimes it would grab, because removing a lot of color build-up (single-stage polyurethane, no hardener). I kept a wet rag busy keeping the surface flooded and wiping away paint debris. I'll do another pass w/ 2000 grit. Waiting on a wool pad and "Malco Super Duty Heavy Cut Compound", but best to wait a few weeks anyway to let the paint harden. I wanted to attack the orange-peel while the paint was soft (2 days after painting). I cut into the primer while sanding a few runs and other oops, so I'll use a touch-up gun there. That is the advantage of single-stage vs base-clearcoat, you can respray any bad spots and easily repair the future scratches and dents which will occur, if you keep left-over paint. Some think I should spend $5K on a pro paint job, but I only paid $1K for my car (1965 Dart) and love living as a resourceful bottom-feeder just to tic-off the wife and kids ("just write a check" types).
Excellent Video Nic! I just sprayed an aftermarket fiberglass cowl hood for my car. I didn't have a paint booth to use so it's full of dirt nibs and a decent amount of orange peel. I think with this tutorial I can safely flatten it out some and make it look great. I know how much clear is on there since I put it on. I think I should have plenty.
Great job young fella! I've been using a rotary with wool pads for 20 years and never a need to prime them. It would've been twice as fast correction with a rotary. Besides that keep up the good work and giving knowledge. 💪
Exellent advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy knows what he is talking about... I did it wrong and put deep scratches in with 1200 1500!!! Dont use!!! If you hand or DA polish. Rotary is different.!!!!!!!!!!
Great video man! Very educational and informative. Too bad there are a couple dislikes, but those people are probably just jealous. Lol. Keep up the great work!!
I'm definitely paying attention to this as being a new guy to this process. I have just finished painting my motorcycle tank and fenders and the side covers. There is some orange peel and I will be using this technique and applying it thanks for all the information..
Really great job. Honestly one of the best videos I’ve seen who go into all the details. What would be the best way to get rid of clear coat lines? After removing the tape from a section of the vehicle. Wet sand? Then compound? Then polish?
JosephF1992 thank you! If you are referring to clear coat lines after having a section repainted, I would put a piece of painters tape on the low side of the line, and only sand the high side. I would not chase perfection in that scenario because you might go through the clear before flattening the line. I would highly recommend a paint depth gauge for that job. Yes, compound the sanding scratches out, then polish any hazing caused by the compounding step
I'm surprised such a perfectionist as yourself is satisfied with the paint color mismatch between your trunk and quarter panels. My OCD would never allow me to live with that.
Get you some various sized sanding blocks. You don't have to use just that tiny one. And be extra cautious on plastic parts that are painted. The paint on spoilers tends to wear out a lot faster.
