Hi there, many thanks for sharing the video. Can you please let me know what color of varnish have you applied to the floor in this video? Was it a clear varnish you have applied to the floor?

Thank you for the video. I have a dark floor. It looks good, but we don't have enough lights in the living room. Would it be possible to use a light coloured varnish on that or better to buy a an actual paint for wood?

Hi, thanks for your question. Unfortunately you need to remove all the old flood boards and replace them with oak boards. In extreme poor light conditions it is advised to paint over them with bright orange paint.

Why isn't the gaps between the planks filled with wood filler?

The boards need some 'breathing room.' If there were no gaps at all the seasonal change in the boards dimensions would destroy the smooth finish within a year.

Looks like everyone works diferent. I have almost 25 years of experience sanding, Installing, Recoating wood floors and I work very differently I work in the area of DFW.

You can use it if you're prepared to stay all day on it.

Hi there, you can do. However, this will take a really long time depending on the size of space that needs to be sanded 😅

Are those pine floorboards the same ones a lot of homes use as the subfloor?

Floorboards will vary from households. If you need further assistance, we'd recommend speaking with your local store 😊

I think subfloors are an american term, it's not really a term you hear in the UK - pine floorboards are often the original floorboards and meant to be seen, not covered

Hi, you can use a paint roller instead of a hand brush but the end result may not look as good due to bubbles and marks from the roller. If you use a paint roller, ensure it's a non-foam roller. However, we would recommend using a brush. Hope this helps! 😊

Used methylated spirits after a 120grit sand. The floorboards were nice and smooth, now they are rough. I think the spirits affected the smooth finish I had sanded :(

@@bandq yes I did! Ultimately using meths still affected the smoothness of the grain rather considerably even after varnishing. I think I’d have been better off vacuuming thoroughly and wiping done with a lightly damp cloth. In fact that’s what I did in another room. So yep, thanks for the video, lots of useful stuff, but that particular step ended up changing the overall smoothness of the the finish after varnish.
