Keeping all of my fingers crossed! Imagine if all the nodes put out a leaf, you'd have such a full plant in a few months!

that would be such a dream☺

loved the video! Two small tips I have picked up over the years. 1. Use a razor blade when making propagations, it reduces the damage to the stem from "crushing forces" lessening the likelihood of rot 2. Dip the ends of your cuts in cinnamon. Some say it has antibacterial properties but I am not sold on that. I mainly use it to help dry up the ends so they can callus over before putting them in soil or in a prop box again to prevent the chance of rot. These guys propagate really well and I wouldn't be surprised if everything with a non spent node wakes up for you!

oh my gosh, thank you so much for the advice! i have heard others talk about cinnamon but i never actually remember to use it. but this is the first i've heard about the razor vs scissors. thank you!!!

I like propagating in perlite too, but I have had a lot more success with it since I started rinsing it first in a strainer. The dust and small particles can form a kind of concrete that prevents the new roots from getting plenty of oxygen (the whole advantage of perlite and moss). This has really helped prevent root rot in my new propagations 👍

Wow I would have never thought to do that!! What an interesting idea, I wouldn’t have really thought that would make so much of a difference. I’ll have to try that!

Can you please film a follow-up video in a few months for this plant surgery? I'm pushing myself to take more risks with props (I only ever used water but am slowly using sphag and perlite), so I'd love to see how this turned out too. Thank you for your video and kind soul - I'm a newer subscriber and here for this adventure!

Oh my gosh welcome, thank you for being here! I’d love to make an update to this video but things are very slow going with this prop. So far I have one small growth point and a few teeny baby roots. So I’ll definitely do an update I think it may be a while😅

@@approachableplantsbyjessie495 That's still great progress! No rush at all or pressure to do it. I just thought that could be a fun (and satisfying) video (: it definitely gave me the motivation to chop up my stiltepecana since she started getting a little leggy from hanging from her pot. I think she wants a moss pole lol, and a moss pole she shall get

I'd love to see an update on how the Pinnatum props are doing, if you don't mind! You and I were both struggling with them a bit ago and I ended up letting mine be, waiting for new growth before I chop. After 7 long months I finally have a new leaf!

I’m so happy for you!! 7 months is an agonizing amount of time to wait! Honestly mines is doing so-so. I want to do an update but I just feel like not enough has happened yet. The leaf cutting has small roots now but that’s about it. I’m still waiting for more to happen but I will definitely do an update at some point

Pretty pretty pretty please don’t pour perlite indoors like that! It’s super toxic to breathe that dust for you or the cats! Also now you’ll have to give us regular updates on this plant haha!

@@approachableplantsbyjessie495 it was a warning in another RU-vidrs video, I can’t remember who now. I just googled it and it looks like there is some conflicting information on both sides… obviously just do what feels safe for you. I have asthma so I don’t take any chances lol

@@kmcollins84 no definitely thank you for this information! I looked it up as well and it seems pretty okay but i also live in a small space so i'm glad to have the heads up so when i use it in the future i can ventilate!

I am the same way with my soil... lol I also super rarely wash my nursery pots. If I had pests I might change it up, but so far death has only ever been root rot and that's pretty impossible to avoid so I just lean into it (and rarely have root rot issues)
@approachableplantsbyjessie495
@approachableplantsbyjessie495 2 года назад
Yessssss I’m SO happy to know someone else does the same thing because I also reuse soil and don’t wash my nursery pots lol it’s never really been an issue for me

Just the video I needed. I just purchased a cutting how much light do they need? Thank you
@approachableplantsbyjessie495
@approachableplantsbyjessie495 2 года назад
Moderate indirect light!! Too much light will turn the leaves yellow and they’ll fall off. I learned that the hard way🤭
