Amazing journey, I bought a Thai cutting too, it was in some kind of cactus mix, perfect roots, but than I noticed rot and removed it into soil, roots rotted more and now I habe 0.5 cm root left, it’s in water now and is pushing out a new leaf, wish me luck

It's sad to say but you are not alone. It's a very common issue. As you can see, the MTC can be a resilient little plant. Best of luck 🤞

Congrats on saving it, I lost an albo to root rot. I will say I don't think the heat mat was necessary especially if it wasn't growing like that before. I've also got to a point where I don't cut just part of the rotted root.... I cut that whole strand because to me, it's already infected and will just move up the root. Yes you can dunk in peroxide or bleach like some do but none of it is a sterile procedure and if you don't cut back enough, you can still leave bacteria to grow. I've also stopped jumping from one plant saving act to another. I usually intervene and then I go a few weeks before bother again even if it looks bad. I just wait to see if it looks worse lol. Things usually get worse before they get better. 🤷🏾‍♀️
@RootsReady
@RootsReady Год назад
That is a great point about cutting the roots. I think if I have taken steps to remove more of the infected roots at an earlier stage, I would have faster results. Thank you for you comment 😊

Had a similar experience, my TCs got shipped to me on super hot days so of course giving them water was an instant rot situation. I had 6 of them but have managed to save three and regrow them stronger more viable roots. One I'm suprised gave me any roots as on initial inspection, the plant had rotted right through the node. Its only got one leaf, but it's doing quite well as atm it's autumn so it's busy growing lots of roots now - but yeah sometimes these things can't be helped. (Mine were birthday/Christmas presents so uh... to save 3 was lucky!) Water propergation saved them - Infact now their roots are thicker than the ones that rotted so hopefully they're going to thrive much better 😊 i wish you luck with yours❤

I finally got my top wishlist plant as well and of course it's the Thia , it's in a 6 inch pot and has 4 big leaves . Looks pretty established to me. I'm not touching that for a long time. My biggest fear is spending that much money and it getting root rot . Thanks for the video

My 2 node cutting developed root rot 2 months after I got it. I had kept it in its original pot but was planning on moving it out as it was a very large pot for the size of plant. Took it out to find it was just 2 Aerial roots 1 was mush. Used hydrogen peroxide n cut off the root n stem til I saw no rot. Left it to air dry n put into very small pot with damp airoid mix . Stuck in support sticks n tied it so that it wasn't touching the soil. I was so scared to water that plant, but now 6 months later I have a good root system and he has pushed out a fenistrated leaf. Don't think I will ever take my eye of that baby though 😅

Freaking Magician! I am doing through the same thing! I had beautiful roots. I moved it from PON to Coco peat! Big mistake! I have less than a half of node left with a half of aerial root and what feels like a bump and no more rot. I rubbed that thing down in Myco+ and growth hormone and I put in a prop box with a light in Fluval stratum. I am going to let the Fluval dry out a bit. The thing had just put out it's third leaf and I moved it because it had so many roots it was crowded in the pot. So stressful after paying so much for this expensive plant. DO NOT ROOT IT IN PON!!!!!!

UPDATE!!! I had another problem with my plant. It lost all of it's roots and the soil the vendor sold it to me in. Thankfully it didn't rot. I put it in water and it did nothing, but I figured, let me put it in Fluval Stratum. You should see this beauty today!!!! It has several leaves. Once the roots were well established, I ordered some aroid mix from Etsy and that plant is in happy land! If you are having trouble, use Fluval stratum to nourish your plant. Keep it most, not too wet and watch what happens!

Good CPR! 😂 I had a heart fern that wasn't cheap but sure wasn't as expensive as your TC. I tried everything but had to endure its demise one leaf at a time then the demise of its single offspring. Threw it on the compost pile and moved on. Some plants are doomed no matter what you do.

@RootsReady
@RootsReady Год назад
Thanks for you comment. Watering it should be fine as long as it is in well draining soil that can dry out quickly. Bigger plants tend to be more forgiving
@cheeseburgero1
@cheeseburgero1 10 месяцев назад
If you think of the areas these plants come from there is typhoon and monsoon seasons and once a year it floods and most plants melt off to fertilize itself for dry seasons. I think the plants are "rare" cause of this rot. Which I think is a natural process of the plant. Once established you should be fine. Think of all the plants that get tossed when there's nothing wrong.

I wouldn't move it out of pon if it is working for you. I plan to eventually move it back into pon. I think the stress and shipping and the transplant was too much for the little guy

I recently got one off a sale, and it came completely mangled via post T_T Thankfully it had really good roots, so I mixed in some perlite into the soil it came in and left it for a while, only to realize that it got a bunch of root rot!!! I have it sitting in leca in a clear pot atm, but after seeing your video I'm wondering if that was the right way to go. Also how often did you take out your plants to investigate the roots? I don't want to shock the plant but also would hate to see it succumb to more root rot. any tips on that?
@RootsReady
@RootsReady 6 месяцев назад
How is yours doing now? As you can see I tried a many methods before I found one that worked for me. Perlite and moss tend to have best results. For the purpose of this video I took mine out more often than I normally would. I would try to avoid it as much as possible

@@RootsReady I had to strip all the roots off except one single healthy/growing root. everything else perished aahah! It's sitting in water now and doing much better, but not sure if it's thriving. Once it pops out more new roots, it'll try perlite and moss again. Thank you for your answer!
