If your deck is a sad and run down as mine you know how much of an eye sore it can be. Just because your deck sucks now doesn’t mean it has to stay sucky. I seen online and in stores all these products that say they can restore your deck to like new condition. Like many I was skeptical as well as I knew how had of shape my deck was in but I decided whats the worse that could happen I couldn’t make the thing uglier so I set off to save my deck and I made a video to show how I did it so you can to. In all honesty I did think it would help however I did not expect it to turn out as good as it did. We do plan on sealing the deck when we pick a color and the deck has a few weeks of sunlight to totally dry but wow just sitting unfinished is a night and day difference. Below you will find links to everything I used so that you can get started on your deck this coming weekend. To do all this work to me 2 days so one could get this done in a weekend.

So basically you power washed the deck and your dad replaced the railing boards for the thumbnail. And here I thought you were gonna show me some way to revitalize that wood! 😂

Hey, I’m about to start this project on my deck, and you comment got me curious… would you mind sharing why is better to apply product in top of the dirty/moldy wood first, and then power wash it?
@thomaspower221
@thomaspower221 Год назад
@@EdwinBeltran yes. Basically, since you have to rinse the product off, you save a step by spraying it on first this allows the product to loosen up the mold, mildew and other nasties. Then, you follow with the power washer and blast it all off just be very careful to use a very conservative (wide) tip. Only use as much pressure to get off the gunk, or you can damage the wood. The directions say to wet down the deck first before applying the Chemical. Good luck. After you do all this, you want to seal it up with something. Check with your local Paint professionals to recommend a good sealer.
@HxC_Fragman
@HxC_Fragman Год назад
@@thomaspower221 Wrong. This is like trying to disinfect with bleach before cleaning with soap and water. You must remove thicker debris first so the the deck wash can penetrate and do its job properly in the wood. You cant just spray bleach on a sticky caked on table and think its killed everythign beneath it. You muist remove the gunk with soap and then allow the bleach to do its magic by disinfecting.

Once you start with a power washer , you are basically stuck using that procedure for the rest of the life of the surface .....Sanding down using 50 grit using a non circular sanding block (power driven) with Behrs all in one wood cleaner ....my deck surface now is smooth and NOW I only need to use a soft broom once a year using the cleaner and BAMB! Ready for a clear non loom oil sealer and "stain" this makes the deck easy to year by year keep. If you like ridges in the grain of your wood , then by all means, pressure was aways

I've restored cedar different ways to Sunday for 30 plus year and what you DO NOT do is destroy that soft grain with a power washer ...PERIOD !
@msulli8512
@msulli8512 16 дней назад
How did you do it
@isitlaw2919
@isitlaw2919 16 дней назад
@@msulli8512 cedar is soft. About 580 at it's highest on wood harness scale ...the straight grain in most Cedar can have soft wood fillers after and refined into wood capable for decks. About 50% of the lot you purchase has a verticle "fin" or better known as part of the fast growing cedar called "rings". The virticle fins or rings are much harder then the fillers or softer cedar wood that is sandwiched between these rings , or virticle fins . When a brand new deck is installed, thoe sometimes slightly rough cut is still, for the most part "smooth" to the sliding of your finger across the grain . When hard rain and hail hit cedar decks it can "dig" out some of the softer grain of cedar leaving the rings or harder parts with being damaged. What you can have the next year or so from hard weather is a slightly more rough finish then the new deck finish when first purchased. When you go to clean cedar , if you use pressure washer , you dig out even more of the soft parts of cedar and fillers leaving the rings or virticle fins at their same heights and you get a "dug out" effect where the softer parts of the wood is now gone .So, when you stain or paint it , and the next season you try to lean it with a brush you have a hard time getting the stain or paint out of the crevasses formed by hard weather or worse pressure washing . Also , if you use a hard bristle broom or brush to scrub cedar , this too will dig out the softer parts of cedar leaving these fins or rings (verticle) higher then the dug out softer parts that are now lower then what the new deck started out with . Now feel your deck? By this time you probably now have about an 1/8" or more of the soft parts of the cedar no longer there ...no longer the same height as the cedar rings or verticle fins of the wood. What I did , after several years of mistakes, on my last cedar deck I'll ever own is after the first year , sand out the deck using an electric block sander , using a 50 grit (it leaves just enough cource in the grain(making a translucent clear treatment to really soak into the grain . Using too fine a grain causes a stain to not soak in as fast or well. Try pouring water on dry fine sand , then do the same on course sand ....the water wicks off fine sand , but not the cource. Same with the fine dust verses cource dust from sanding ....stains will soak in better with cource because it's more porous. Now , never use loom oils , it is a mess and peels, and really hard to get off , causing you to have to sand it off every year . I use thompsons sealer and water proofer. Look for the green label .....thompsons is a silicone base and does not peel, you simply add more the next dry season . Most people I know already re do their decks anyway each year so , although thompsons is only good for about 6 months, I found it much easier to use and clean up after a treatment . With this current deck , now going on my 4th year , I only now use Behrs 3 in one deck cleaner and a very soft bristle broom ...it takes several passes , and some where the grain is very smooth less scrubbing to get it to the point where it looks clean to ready it for a clear seal and water proofer for that season I hope this has helped
