This applies to 2014-2019 Silverados with a 6L80 transmission, however it is always a good idea to install an updated thermal bypass or a transmission fluid cooler no matter what truck you have. Link to part below:

Nah, Dude, you're absolutely right about those crazy High Temps. I strongly recommend you consider wrapping your Exhaust pipe that's traveling Directly under your TranPan with some Titanium Twill Weave Exhaust Shield Wrap (2"X50ft) That Pipe is just WAY Too Damn Close and it's literally Cooking that Transmission Oil!

My 2017 3500hd has no trans thermostat stock. I added coolers and now stays under 170 towing and 145 normal driving. Great truck!

Must be nice, shit I put the thermostat bypass in mine so it’s basically deleted, and my transmission will still hit 215°f in stop and go traffic not towing lol

Bought a used 2016 5.3 with 70k miles. At 90k miles my tranny started to shutter after a long distance drive in hot weather one day. Swapped out atf fluid and filter along with this mod and haven’t had any issues since now I’m at 105k miles a lot of towing my boat

FYI you can tell if yours is the updated factory version. Look at the bottom of the TBV @ 8:40 in video. It will have "70" stamped into it. If it has the stamp that means they replaced the old one and your g2g! Changing out the original TBVs on these transmissions is a must if you want them to last.
@StrongTurf

Yup I have no idea what GM was thinking when they made the stock TBV to only open at 195°. Absolutely cooked my 6L80 and it blew up on me at 150k miles

I put the same thing in my 2015 Silverado about 2 months ago, temps went from 190-200 to around 150-160, easy install. I was going to use the superior solutions install kit, but could not get the piece to come out after removing the snap ring, I tried everything short of drilling out the center and probably ruining the whole device. So keep that in mind if you plan to replace the bypass yourself.

I have the 2021 Custom Trail Boss. I put in a Superior Solutions transmission thermostat delete kit in it and swapped the stock trans cooler for a 40K and added two more quarts of oil and it made a big difference in my transmission temperature. Previously, it climbed above 200 at night pulling my boat at night up The Baker Grade outside of Baker, CA with the AC Running so I decided that wasn’t ever going to happen again so I did the above. If I’m still not happy with my transmission temperature I am going to add a thermostatic fan to the cooler.

Soaked the original tbv with some wd 40 and my 8 yo son took apart the original with really thin needle nose pliers and a pair of regular pliers and he rebuilt the original block with the superior solutions bypass and re assembled it while I just put the newer tbv block from the dealer for 100 bucks and changed the metal gasket behind it that’s recommended and now I have a backup if I don’t like the newer gm bypass valve I wanted to make sure I had options being the truck only has 27k
@StrongTurf
@StrongTurf 18 дней назад
I’ve heard the WD40 works for some people and doesn’t work for others. Mine looked like it would probably be easy enough to open up, but I figured I would just not bother.

I did the same thing, bought the updated GM one, then got the PPE one and also the deep pan they make to hold more fluid trans runs nice and cool. Did notice that in the cold weather here in NY trans temp does not get very high and gets very poor gas mileage in the winter.

What the difference in gas mileage and why you think it causes drop in mpg I know tire pressure drops couple psi in cold
@Doof3rproductions

It's know fact for any vehicle in Northeast to get worse mpgs in winter due to running vehicles at idle longer and the gas mixture is different from the summer mixtures due to the temps

My 2018 Silverado 1500 transmission blew at 110,000 miles. Got a "new" transmission and after a month was seeing trans temps still above 220deg. Installed the Superior Solutions kit you referenced, and temps have not gone over 195deg since installed. Had Chevy dealership look at transmission for high temps twice before it blew and all they did was replace the transmission fluid.

Autozone about $3500 but add on another $1000 for the core charge. I believe I paid the $4500 up front and then they gave me $1000 back when I gave them the old transmission

Occasionally I have seen hot temps if I am towing 2 mowers. For example if I tow for an hour straight through the city then temps will still get upwards of 200. But 90% of the time it stays 165-185 which is a lot cooler than before

Can anyone please let us know how you check the fluid level now with this thermal bypass? So many different answers, I’m totally confused.
@StrongTurf
@StrongTurf Месяц назад
Should not change anything. Unless you also added a deeper transmission pan to allow a bigger capacity. But the fluid check procedure should be the same after doing the thermal bypass
@jaybilawchuk2225
@jaybilawchuk2225 Месяц назад
@@StrongTurf aaaand that is what????? Not one video with these bypass mods show how the fluid should be checked properly, which is the most important step missed. The instructions say no warm up needed. I phone the place and they say just check level whenever. This is exactly why I’m asking the question.
@stanleyrhodes8671
@stanleyrhodes8671 29 дней назад
You should be able to check the fluid immediately after starting the truck. Fluid flows immediately. So you don't have to heat it up to open the thermostat.
@ezakoske

Depends on what transmission you have. The 8-speed like mine doesn’t have a dipstick to check the fluid level.

@@StrongTurf I’ve noticed my 2014 is starting to shift hard in lower gears even before getting warmed up. I don’t do much towing if at all, been curious if this will help fix along with a trans filter/fluid dump.
@StrongTurf
@StrongTurf 2 месяца назад
@@ryandurham5725depends if you have already changed your trans fluid regularly. I didn’t change mine until 100k, then it started shifting hard at about 120k, changed fluid again at 140k then it blew up at 150k. I would only change the fluid if you have already done it often.
